I'm very excited to announce my newest book: Small Arms of WWII - Soviet Union! This is the second volume in our Headstamp series of World War Two arms (the first was the United States). It's approximately 500 pages of gorgeous photography and insightful history on all the small arms of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War (as it is called in Russia). Specifically, I cover all the standard small arms and lots of experimental and early-production variations. The book is divided into chapter by type of weapon - Handguns, Submachine Guns, Bolt Action Rifles, Self-Loading Rifles, Sniper Rifles, Machine Guns, and miscellaneous Others.
One of the aspects I really like about doing this book is being able to bring a good baseline of information to the English language sphere about Soviet small arms. While we have a few references here and there, the majority of Russia weapons are very poorly documented in English. By working with a bunch of Russian-langauge research and materials I was able to put together a lot of information that has been previously unknown or misunderstood by most Western collectors and enthusiasts. To be clear, this book is not a detailed reference guide (nor was the first volume on US arms) - but my goal was to include a good overview of each weapon's development, operation, production, and use in the war.
We have preorders open and available now, and after two weeks we will send the book to our printer (knowing at that point how many copies we should print). We expect a 5-month time frame for printing and shipping, so we should have books in our warehouse and going out to you in mid-September. The price is $108 plus shipping, and we also have options for signed copies, slipcases, and signed copies with slipcases. We also have slipcases available for the US edition for those who are interested in them. We will be sending a batch of books from the printer directly to a shipping hub in France, which will reduce our shipping costs for European (and British) buyers - make sure to use the European option web site (www.headstampbook.com) if that applies for you!
Thanks!
Ian

Would love this since I already have the first one in a signed edition but... When it finally arrived it was damaged in the bottom spine. So I'm on the fence. Will the packaging be better?
We have really good packaging for these - if it arrives damaged, please tell us and we will make it right!
@@ForgottenWeaponsGood to know! Really loved the first in the series!
@@RobinP556 I mean between those two I would say give this a try. That said, all standard Clockwork Basilisk books have *not* shipped yet; they are going out every day but we are only about 50% through the orders. I can't speak to the US book issue, except to say that if you mail us at info@headstamppublishing.com we will do whatever we can to correct problems. There are inevitably some delivery issues in a large project like this, and we do our absolute best to resolve all of them.
@@ForgottenWeapons Will do, thanks. Hopefully I won’t get the same rude and condescending response that I got when I addressed my issues with the US WW2 book, and I was polite.
Privet to you too, comrad McCollumski. Good job!
Tovarish, it doesn't work like this in russian. If "Mc" means "son", it should be Collumov. "-ov" is an old form of possessive case, so it means "son of Collum"
What I'm really looking for is a book about not-small-but-not-quite-medium arms.
I was hoping for big arms…
The current US Army definition of small arms where a howitzer is considered small arms?
T-Rex 🦖 has small arms
Bro, have you collected ALL small arms books/info??? If not, how are you gonna have a complete collection? Stay open bro, I can't buy firearms in my country but I'm inclined to comment on your comment. Cheers
Artillery? Or are those big guns? Maybe tank cannons(weren’t as enormous in ww2)
Cool that your offering slipcases. I'm hoping for a 'box-set' box once all the books in the series are published.
I agree. My backlog of unread books is a lifetime long at this point, and while I would love this book, I'm going to hold out in the hope that once the set is done I can just order the whole set in one go. I won't be able to resist that.
Same here excitied about it
That opening statement is beyond true. I spent a *lot* of time translating Russian, Finnish and German when I was working on articles about the history of the Soviet sniper program and the development and production of the 91/30.
Are we going to get British Empire and Empire of Japan in future volumes?
Yes, we plan to do volumes on the UK, Japan, Italy, and Germany.
@@ForgottenWeaponswhat about the glorious nation of Elbonia?
@@harrydoyleyTHIS!
@@lancekilkenny721 Elbonia was neutral because they couldn't find a working pen to sign the Declaration of War.
Would there be one about Finland or China soon?@@ForgottenWeapons
Wow, congrats on the new book! I can't wait to dive into the intricate history and gorgeous photography of Soviet small arms during WWII.
Just preordered a signed copy! 🎉😊
Keeping an ear to the ground for more news about small arms of Finland book.
You keep pumping them out and I'll keep buying them.
Looking forward to it - one piece of feedback though. Please make the spine stronger! I can barely open the US book without having the spine popping and creaking
Oh yes. Definitely need to be adding this one to my collection!
Already ordered. Keep em coming!
Super interesting topic! I really hope we get a video on the ppsh 42!
Congrats on the new book!!
This and the possible Mosin books are what Ive been waiting for!
Dear Ian, thank you so much for maintaining of this brilliant channel. Please do not leave it. And I wish you be careful when shooting all the stuff you present )))
Sincerely, Pavel
I wish you the best of luck in your newest book Ian!
A great gift too. Thanks Ian.
Clockwork Basilisk arrived today within 5 minutes of the announcement of this. Very happy, already pre-ordered a signed sleeve.
Perfect!
I wish that my copy would get here, or that someone from Headstamp Publishing would answer an email, or something. I pre-ordered the standard edition during the kickstarter campaign and as it stands now I can’t get anyone to answer an email or respond on the kickstarter campaign.
Headstamp has reached out to me and it looks like everything is good to go.
@@RobinP556 Order are still shipping every day, and you will get an email with tracking info when yours goes out. The order of shipping priority is Collector editions first, then signed copies, then standard Kickstarter editions, and then retail editions.
Gun Jesus's Second Epistle to the GunTubers.
Third, if you count Warlords.
@@lancekilkenny721 Fourth - 1. French Rifles 2. Pistols of the Walords 3. US WWII Small Arms 4. Soviet WWII Small Arms.
Just pre-ordered. Cant wait! 8)
Awesome, congrats Ian
Congratulations on the new book! Also, Is the suppressor book with Kevin B still on the horizon?
Yes it is - but I don’t have an ETA at this point
Exactly what I was looking for today, what a surprise :)
This exact conversation (not much Soviet gun info in English language books) is the reason I started to learn Russian. I’m nowhere near good enough to read this sort of stuff yet so I appreciate this coming out.
I totally understand the cost of these books, wish I could afford to buy a copy of each one, they are absolutely gorgeous.
I look forward to getting this along with the others to come!
I love these books!
How in the world do you get it all done??!! Such a great channel and resource! Thanks Ian 😎😎🐦
Sweet. A head stamp book im interested in
Small arms of Indochina is perfect for Ian and very interesting.
Thx for offering a European option for buying it.
I'd love to see you get to do a video on the LAD machine gun. It seems like the perfect assault machine gun for so many close-in uses and is also really weird for being a belt-fed machine gun chambered for 7.62mm x 25mm Tokarev. But since the two surviving prototypes are or were in Russia, that may not be possible for a long time.
I love my U.S. book. I'm ready book 2. I cant wait to fill this collection!
The first Small Arms book is great, looking forward to getting this one as well.
Adding this to the birthday list
Ian, not interested in pre-orders but definitely will grab one once they are shipping. What other combatants are you covering? Thanks for all that you do!
Stay away from pre-orders with Headstamp. I made 2, the US WW2 book and Clockwork Basilisk. The WW2 book was shipped to an address where I’ve never lived and Headstamp was no help at all in locating it. As for Clockwork, all standard edition kickstarter books have supposedly been shipped but I haven’t heard a word from them, they don’t respond on kickstarter and they don’t answer emails. I’ll wait until this one is at least in print and shipping, possibly u til they appear on Amazon or in a bookstore.
Success in your preorder combat mission Comrade Writer.
Looking forward to exploring the depths of their development and impact during WWII.
Love the subject but would like to see more technical drawings of how the guns work as well as dimensions length of barrel etc....
Best Publishing company ever.
Very nice! A guide to Brandon Herreras firearms collection
I'm guessing the book of "Small Arms of Japan" will be written by Ian's dad!!! 🤠👍
It won’t be.
Impressive ❤
RESPECT!
I love the Small Arms of America, one small problem is around the "Bazooka" section, about 10-15 pages are upside down lol.
Ooh! That's fancy!
Spasibo za to chto rasskazivarsh pro oruzhie iz toe epohi!
Hey Ian, why did the French go from the lebel and Berthier forward locking lugs to the mas 36s rear locking lugs isn’t it better to have the forward locking lugs?
Rear lugs shorten the bolt throw and the disadvantages are pretty minor.
Hope we can see a video on the forgotten competitor to the AK, the AS-44.
Again, just in time for my birthday, like the US book. Thank you!
Молодец! Так держать!
Congratulations
Only time i like picture books is if im reading dr seuss, does this at least rhyme?
Ordered plus a slipcase cover for the USA book. Is the German one going to be one or two volumes?
thank you for including europe
@1:06 the most significant actually
Once you finish the other WWII sets, doing the same thing for the First World War would be awesome!
When is the Silencer book coming out?
When is tha last day for preorder, I am assuming the 4/17
I recently found one of your previous books on eBay for a thousand dollars. I think it was signed.
Fantastic to hear - will there be by any chance a further addition to the series covering weapons of the British Empire/Commonwealth forces, like the British Indian Army and Canadian Forces?
Yes, we will have one on the UK
Another book toad to my Headstamp collection.
OUCH! $70 shipping!!!!
Already placed my order for signed copy! So far I have one of every copy you've published
cool
Шикарная книга...😊
I wish there was a place in Australia to be able to get these! $150 USD shipping is just mental. Hopefully one day 😁
Frick yeah. Early gang lets go
Man I cant wait til my situation lets me have all these as coffee table books
Is there going to be a complete collection bundle when you get through the major countries?
Probably, but that's several years away.
Nice. Yeah I'll be pre-ordering next week. It'll be interesting to see how far this goes. Small Arms of Japan, UK, Italy, France. There's not enough material, but I'm waiting to see someone do a history of the AG-42 Family, as I have a complete set, and there's so little out there. Like the only DI rifle that predates the AG-42 is the MAS-40, and France seemed to be so secretive about their weapon designs, I don't see how Erik Eklund, the designer, could of come up with that on his own just out of the blue, unless some French MAS engineers fled to Sweden before the fall of France
The plan is to have standalone volumes on the UK, Germany, Italy, and Japan. Then one last one combining several countries that were occupied by Germany (or otherwise stayed mostly out of the war) and didn't do significant arms development during the war - Poland, Czechoslovakia, France, Belgium, Denmark, etc.
@@ForgottenWeapons That sounds awesome! Hopefully it won't take five years to publish them all. But won't the German one be redundant alongside the two volumes of Vicker's Guides?
PPD 34 how wonderfully 🇫🇮type
-26, -31 model’s barreljacket , drum❤🇫🇮
You should do British Small Arms. The Lee Enfield was my favorite bolt gun of WW2.
This will be a series covering each major power.
How do you find the time..?
How about an Australian shipping option?
Sorry, but we just don't have enough Australian sales to make a special setup practical. Best option is to find a buddy or two who are also interested and order together. That will cut the per-book shipping down a lot.
@@ForgottenWeapons you don't have enough Australian sales?
We'll see about that!
Will this be available on Amazon when it comes out?
No, only direct through HeadstampPublishing.com
@@ForgottenWeapons ok do u guys ship outside of USA?
Absolutely
@@ForgottenWeapons do u ship to India because im planning to get it when it comes out?
i think would be cool if he did audiobook
I got your MASSIVE Chinese firearms book and it was a really good addition to my bookshelf. :3c
Can you review NGSW RM277
Hopefully you do one book on all the major powers of WW2 like Japan, Germany, etc
The plan is to do volumes on the UK, Germany, Italy and Japan - and probably one combining several of the smaller powers.
Damnit Ian ... I'm running out of bookshelf space!
And from where is that PPSh 42 and other prototypes? That gun is in USA?
Ordered. Did not see an option for a slip case for the US version, so I ordered without.
The slipcase for the US book is available separately
Finally, comrade
still waiting on Tobacco of the Emporer to get printed and shipped :(
We resolved the issues with he cover production, and the books are now being printed. We expect them to leave the printer by the end of the month - which unfortunately means a couple more months before we get them shipped out to people. The hazards of working with a new printer on a project...
Interesiting in that it is coincidental with C&Arsenal's statement that they would be doing WW2 arms
Looking forward to the german volyme.
Nyet book is fine
It's just a shame the postage costs near double the price of Headstamp books outside of EU and the US.
Do you ship to south Africa?
Definitely!
will it be on amazon?
No, only direct through HeadstampPublishing.com
That bites. Amazon ships…Headatamp is still up in the air, nothing but bad service from them so far; one book shipped to the wrong address and the Clockwork book hasn’t shown up at or nor will Headstamp respond to email.
@@RobinP556 Is there some particular reason you're spamming the comment section? I get you had a bad experience but Ian is not a help desk.
@@seanherrmann6301 Neither is Headstamp Publishing’s “Help” desk.
@@seanherrmann6301 I made one comment and responded to a few other comments. That’s not spamming. I would advise that you look up the word, which I just did in several places and according to Cambridge, Miriam-Webster and Oxford what I did is not spamming. But maybe you know more about what a word’s definition than the people that write dictionaries.
Great idea to have a European partner for this market!
Count me in
Does it have best gun for hunting moose and squirrel?
PTRS-41 and TK. Yes.
@@ForgottenWeapons Fearless Leader will be pleased. Or as pleased as he is capable.
Most Soviet soldiers with small arms were assigned to the tank corps.
I’m waiting for Small Arms of Imperial Japan!
done
Is there already one for Germany? Will there be one?
Not yet but there will be.
@@ForgottenWeaponsglad to hear I haven't missed the boat on that one. Tnx for answering and all the great content over the years. I saw that there is an European storefront, I'll go take a look for this edition
@@ForgottenWeaponsI'm worried about the slipcase on the German book
