Lestat (Tom Cruise) gives Louis (Brad Pitt) his last chance to choose death or eternal life as a vampire.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Anne Rice's best-selling romantic horror tale about the origins of a centuries-old vampire inspired this popular, atmospheric chiller. One of director Neil Jordan's major Hollywood productions, the film stays close to its source material, retaining the frame of a young reporter (Christian Slater) interviewing a man who claims to be a 200-year-old vampire. The man, Louis (Brad Pitt), shares his story, beginning in 18th-century New Orleans with his first encounters with the charismatic and decadent vampire Lestat (Tom Cruise). Lestat converts Louis to blood-sucking and immortality, but Louis fails to adopt Lestat's cavalier attitude, instead tormenting himself with guilt over his new nature. The two vampires remain deeply, if reluctantly, connected over the years, while becoming intimately involved with others of their kind, including Claudia (Kirsten Dunst), a mature immortal in a young child's body. Fans of the novel raised numerous objections, particularly after Rice initially spoke out against the casting of Cruise as Lestat; further casting difficulties followed the death of River Phoenix, whose role as the interviewer was assumed by Christian Slater. Rice later recanted her objections, and the combination of thrills and gothic romance proved popular with audiences.

If you think about it, both Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt looking too damn young even by Hollywood standards. For example, you look at DiCaprio and you notice he is getting old, I mean he is still ok and it's normal for a human, but he is now looking older than them and he is like what? At least 10 years younger than them? Damn, did Tom and Brad really made a vampire pact during the filming of that movie? Is this why they don't like to talk about this movie and avoid each other ever since? Like they know what they did and don't want anyone else to know or remind each other. It was necessary, but too painful for both of them. lol
Unfortunately Kirsten Dunst was left out of their little vampire pact. Maybe she was way too young for such a ritual.

Of all the scenes in this movie, I would love to see the bloopers from this one the most! You know they cracked up laughing at one point!

Something quite obvious, since Anne Rice created Louis inspired by herself, Lestat by her husband, and Claudia by her daughter who died as a child.

I always loved the way it was shot and also the music. Really evokes that old-school romantic gothic feeling. The other one I really like is Bram Stocker's Dracula made by Francis Ford Coppola about the same time. A very beautifully shot movie, it almost looks like a series of paintings at times. This gothic aesthetics really pleases my eyes, I want more movies like these two. But modern filmmakers or even the audience probably don't know or understand this type of aesthetics. I find that most modern movies despite all the technical advancements are very boring visually and kinda meh artistically.

In the books, Marius explains to Lestat that not everyone turned into a vampire goes all "vampy". Sometimes they're little more than extra strong humans with a deadly aversion to sunlight.
Also, Lestat made other people vampires before Louis and Claudia, so his blood lost some of it's 'potency' for making progeny.
"Interview with the Vampire"(1994) is an excellent horror movie! This is one of the most impressive and well made Vampire horror movies of all time!

I always was a fan of Anne Rice, she was the queen and there is another book The Wolf Gift and she did Prince Lestat, this movie was back in 1994 and I miss the old days when movies were movies and had some magic with it too! At first Anne Rice didn't Want Tom Cruise to play Lestat and Daniel Day Lewis, Julian Sands would have been perfect for this! Its a shame that Brad Pitt has aged and he looked really good here! Legends Of The Fall, Thelma and Louise, True Romance were my favorites of Brad Pitt! I had a crush on him when I was 16! I wouldn't mind being a vampire myself!

So what is Louis' "dark gift"? He is fairly strong, but all vampires are strong. Lestat can fly, is super-fast and can read minds. Louis is just really moody.

Lestat’s dark gift is to be capable of turning mortals into vampires, Louis later could also do this because Lestat was his maker. Lestat inherited that ability from his maker as well.

I was in love with both the book and the movie during high school, but seeing it after so long is bittersweet. This movie spear-headed the "modern vampire" idea and inspired many other great vamp movies out there, like Blade....but also gave us the shittiness of Twilight. So on the one hand, I'm grateful to Anne Rice for creating IwtV, but on the other, she effectively killed her own franchise when she banned and harassed creativity from the fandom (fanfiction and fanart being, naturally, the lifeblood of said fandom and original work). So in conclusion, thanks to Anne Rice, we have Twilight, and this movie/book fades from both generations' consciousness. It's a real shame.

He gave him a choice because it was something Lestat himself did not get to have when he became a vampire. He was forced into it. (I read all the books. LoL)

One of the funniest jokes I've ever heard was a joke from the movie "Bowfinger" (actually a terrible movie!). Steve Martin says something like "There are so many movies that are made without the actor knowing they are in it... Tom Cruise didn't know he was in that vampire movie until a few years after it was released!" LOL. I think it was the only thing funny about that particular movie. Hehe

I find all these compliments about Tom Cruise's acting intering. I most certainly remember when he was first cast. Everyone was like, "What Tom Cruise?? You got to be f***ing kidding me!!!" Big back lash with the Anne Rice fans and Anne Rice herself complained about the movie too. Not exactly time heals all wounds...but most certainly time makes things more irrelvant. lol
