    Thanks for rhe handy video! I just want to say though, when you quench the metal you arent softening it. Quenching hardens the metal. You have to cool it slowly for it to soften. Youll find the metal much easier to work with if you cool is slowly after heating

    Hey Jo... IM 57 and worked too hard at construction all my life...yesterday I found some old silver-plated rings at second hand store. I was hoping to have an antiques roadshow moment but no luck. I have been really getting into lapidary lately and have spent hundreds of Covid social distancing hours finding agate, jasper and anything that has something special. I bought a rock tumbler ...dremmel....tile saw all thinking it would be fun shaping them and maybe making jewelry of some sort ( I am thinking if I can't work anymore it would be a great hobby).I came across a site for making spoon rings and went down the rabbit hole called google and started thinking to make Christmas presents this year. after watching several tutorials into the wee hours last night I fell asleep, didn't shut down my computer so....when I woke up this morning your video was in the Queue ready to play. I don't know when and where epiphany defines our fates and inspiration explodes us into answers we never dreamed to ask.ourselves.but I do know having reason and purpose in life will provide the warmth of happiness and fulfillment that defines us.
    I felt inspiration so strong after this video that luck has laid out my destiny...( next comment down will explain my excitement)

    Great video Midnight Jo. Very easy to follow. What brand of polish are you using on the spoon ring?

    • @midnightjo1327
      @midnightjo1327  Před 4 měsíci

      This is the blue polish from Harbor Freight. I also like the Luxi blue for a final polish with an untreated muslin buff. These days I finish all my sterling with HF & treated buff the the luxi and an untreated buff

    ....I hope to still have thirty good years in me (fingers crossed) to fill ,but since my injury depression has set in and an empty feeling has manifested itself in the pit of my stomach. as i am writing this warmth is washing over me unveiling inspiration and know ing it is all good.
    I donèt know if you have any advice you can share on#1: are there any courses I can take to become a jeweler... #2 what rudimentary equipment should I buy to learn on and #3....THANK YOU JO!!!!. I never thought a random 3 miute video that magically appeared on my screen would change my life. Thanks to your inspiration I just had a vision of myself wearing Loupe glasses huched over a wooden bench next to the fire in my wood cabin, and making the Finest peice I have ever made in the thirty years since I saw this video. If I could call on you for advice during this endevour it would be so appreciated...I'll keep in touch ...Im laughing right know at all the things i've learned and having them come together so perfectly. You may have changed my life because feeling like I do right now is wonderful. thank YOU.

      Hi Tim, thanks for watching, I'm happy I could inspire! I actually haven't taken a jewelry course since high school haha, but I've always been handy and my husband has helped a good amount with how to do things. This is the age of information, I would refer you right here to CZcams, there's great info all around us. If you're looking at getting into flatware jewelry and have some money to invest I recommend a 1 ton arbor press and tooling from Flatwearable - they have their own CZcams channel explaining how to use their products. If you're not looking to invest heavily and just get your toes wet there's a $40ish dollar bender on Etsy.com. Happy making!

    • @midnightjo1327

      The sanding station is Ryobi, from Home Depot. The bench lathe is Foredom, you can find them online. I might be a tool addict 😂 it took a long time to build up the tools I have!

    Just wondering, If you wanted to keep the enamel as part of the ring design, how would you prevent it from breaking?

    • @midnightjo1327
      @midnightjo1327  Před 3 lety +1

      You'd have to keep it flat which would be very difficult the way that I make rings, might also be uncomfortable as a ring

      I anneal when working with sterling to help prevent breakage. I don't anneal silverplate or stainless. I charge $25/ring when using your flatware. My retail prices range from $25 up

    It's good that you wear PPE, but I hope you'll research polishing on a wheel while wearing those heavy gloves. It's quite dangerous, TBH.

    Video was not helpful couldn't really see how you were using that bending tool and wasn't explained where you acquired the bending apparatus that you had to use I have that press but where did you get the rest of the stuff and the video should have been more focused on that The ring did come out nice
