    Deep Guard with Handguns, Veterans with crossbows and armour. Proceed to show easy Dwarven supremacy, add in a canon to kill monsters if your leader is not levelled up right (random chance after all).
    Love the foreman, but the Ranger can be equally silly, especially if you find the mount merchant to get rid of his ranged retinue that usually loses his combat. However that double movement is arguably more clutch than the re-rolled armour saves from the Foreman.
    Engineer is only great if you get an early piece of artillery, outside of that, very average, a weaker version of the Ranger.

    • @lazygrouse
      @lazygrouse  Před 4 dny

      @@TheStormfury Yeah, the deep guard with guns seem to be able to deal with most things, especially with rerolling defense.

      @TheStormfury Před 3 dny

      @@lazygrouse Bolt throwers have became my favourite piece of artillery after my latest run, if you get them as a starting unit you get two of them!
      Sure they are not as powerful as a cannon, still multi-wound to take care of monsters like trolls or cav, and they get multiple shots. This makes them awesome to snipe down big stuff, or destroy infantry blocks.

  • @vampuricknight1
    @vampuricknight1 Před 4 dny

    Also just a heads up you can adjust the rows/width of units in the army view tab on the main map, click on a unit then hover over the unit block in the row at the top and you'll see a + or - with an arrow.
    Some units are better with more rows like cheap undead units like zombies/skeletons which are more about clogging up enemy units than actually dealing damage. Other units like 2 handed/great weapon units with low defense basically need to be in wide rows in order to maximize their charge/attacks.

    • @lazygrouse
      @lazygrouse  Před 3 dny

      @@vampuricknight1 I did find that kind of by accident when just clicking around. But is there really a point to go narrow even for zombies except to save room on the frontline? Because even if you have narrow lines, can't you still lose units beyond the second line even though only 2 lines can attack?

    • @vampuricknight1
      @vampuricknight1 Před 3 dny

      @@lazygrouse so in classic warhammer which this is based on you couldn't hit beyond the first 2 rows so sometimes you'd see a unit of zombies that was like 10 rows deep. I'm not certain if this carries over to sovl I'd assume it works that way otherwise every unit would be incentivized to just go as wide as possible. Its worth testing though.

    When you click army view it can allow you to spread out some units wider though there is a cap. This allows high troop count units to get more hits in when attacking from the front or same goes for Calvary. I’ve been grinding out the Undead and they are pretty brutal to play due to them not breaking but crumbling so you take a crap ton of casualties. I will say the Dread Knights are super strong though especially if you get a few random event boosts they can pretty much win battles by themselves

    • @lazygrouse
      @lazygrouse  Před 3 dny

      Yeah, it seems like the undead has great mobility with bats and Knights. I think that I'll play them next just because they are so different from the Dwarfs.

    • @hbsavage0387
      @hbsavage0387 Před 3 dny

      @@lazygrouse it’s a good choice and the Bats are pretty good at pinning units from the side. They have some of the furthest charging ranges of any units. The necromancer definitely makes the undead a fair bit easier cause you can basically keep a unit alive long enough for everything else to be wiped out by the Cav. Also I do not recommend Dire Wolves they are just kinda bad. For infantry go Skeleton Spears if able and honestly their premium infantry isn’t worth it you need models not stats because of crumbling.

  • @vampuricknight1

    I've been playing this game for a while, i'll be honest currently i try to avoid Elite Battles if at all possible because the rewards often don't justify the units/wounds you will likely take defeating them, even if you take good engagements you can fairly easily end up in a spiral of whittled down units as you keep taking losses in the next battle because you roll fewer dice so killing armies takes longer... and so on and so forth. Just not enough there to be worth the risk unless you absolutely need to get past one.
    Battles are great because its +1 XP for your units + healing or Gold, so more battles is often more good and they are typically very easy once you get used to the maps and unit variety.
    Random Events are as the name suggests, random, so they can be good and can actually take an army from so so to broken VERY quickly... but its a rng risk and there are some events that aren't worth even doing for certain armies... which means a dead spot on the map which is AWFUL as that means no XP, no gold, no nothing. They are worth taking but i don't go out of my way for them.
    Armories are essentially why Battles are so good, you can beef up your existing units with cheap gear (which some units and heroes absolutely need as it makes them VERY OP) and you can recruit new units mounts, retinues etc. Its definitely something to consider when deciding which path to take as you always want to have some amount of gold ready to go when you hit an armory.
    Camp sites are imo the best spots in the game. You can heal or get free XP... if your units are fully healed already you essentially get a free "battle" with no units lost but also no gold which in the later stages of a map is completely fine as outside of armories and rare random events is completely irrelevant. If they aren't fully healed or you've yet to get additional healing perks (because maybe you got lucky with your perk options and got to choose better stuff like crucial stat buffs) then these are essentially when you get your full unit back. Also healing in the game is deceptively good... say you take a battle right after a camp site... well if you're fully healed you probably can deal with the battle very efficiently... and if you do, you won't need to heal after the battle and can collect a lot of extra gold instead of needing to heal... so camp sites can also be considered "future gold" investments... if that makes sense... of course assuming you take a good clean engagements following one.

    • @lazygrouse
      @lazygrouse  Před 3 dny

      @@vampuricknight1 That is a good point. I don't have numbers on it, but the amount of extra money from elites isn't that significant. A item for your Lord or extra xp would be a nice incentive for elites.
      But I'm not sure if I agree with camps being the best unless you're hurt. They are nice but it seems like the random spots is the most important ones because the good events are so damn powerful, better than what you can get from the shop. Like the Divine protection and I think there was one that gives power and extra attacks to a unit which is just gamechangeing, or just cheap strong units.

    • @vampuricknight1
      @vampuricknight1 Před 3 dny

      @@lazygrouse Yeah exactly, I was thinking either an item/perk for your lord or maybe a full heal after to negate the negative effect and reward taking the additional risk/challenge.
      The random spots can be good but it does vary depending on when you get them and what army your playing. For instance Dwarves early on don't have a lot of models in their units... so if you get an event and lose several models or the entire unit is replaced (not got to spoil that one if you haven't gotten that particular event) it can basically kill the run depending on what's next.
      It does vary though.
