Mr. Z's conflicting reaction in eating pineapple deep dish pizza looks like he's gonna be stripped of Italian citizenship if he took just one bite of it lol
😂😂😂
Can hardly blame him, being an EU citizen is priceless 😅
Italian food police here, we are going to send our deep Chicago condolences to the family 😑
I just loved how Z came up with 4 Fruit + Cheese combo's that are ALL traditionally good and have been a food pair for decades to centuries lol. Watermelon + Feta Salad is a thing, Apple/Pear on cheese platters along with Grapes, Apricots and the like has been around forever and Pineapple has been paired with cheese a lot as well. Fruit + Cheese just works.
@@Ishlacorringoat cheese and fig jam on toasted bred is the most delicious stuff
"Bi-annually? That's more than your birthday! Are you trying to learn new words everyday?"
I swear Ollie cracks me up every time! 🤣🤣🤣
It's really annoying that biannually means both twice per year AND every two years.
Semiannually should be the only word for twice per year.
@@MrVvulf this
Ollie just messing with Mr. Z was so funny. Props to Mr.Z for being open to trying some new stuff.
We DO eat watermelon and feta cheese in Iran. It's actually a very popular breakfast option here!
Yeah but thats feta. Feta is not like the cheese you put on pizza. Its compleltly diffrent
Watermelon and feta is AMAZING! ❤
@PontMinusz-wt8vg Obviously you haven't tried it yet - feta, spinach, and olive pizza - really good!
Oh yea I could see that! I love cucumber with Feta, watermelon is pretty close to cucumber!
Well not exactly with watermelon, but usually with regular melon. Just make a sandwich with thin bread, melon and feta cheese in it and enjoy it with a nice cup of tea (with honey in it). It's delicious and gives a nice boost in the morning!
Watching them eating pizza and the one thing that stuck in my mind is Mr. Z saying you wouldn’t put cheese and watermelon together. But ask any Greek and they will tell you that you can, as long as it’s feta cheese. Sweet and salty…the perfect combination!
I feel like lots of different cultures do sweet and salty. Plus there's often fruit on a charcuterie board. No one even bats an eye at cheese and pears, figs, grapes, apples....
@@lateinbloomThey need to give him a hot apple pie with cheddar cheese 😋😋😋
Exactly when he asked that question I answered of course feta and I'm not even Greek but I like feta cheese with watermelon 😂
He also says using a knife and fork with pizza is blasphemy, despite it being extremely common in Naples.
@@lateinbloomhonestly it sounds so gross combining sweet and salty foods together but when you taste it it's really good
Ollie always cracks me up!! "That's more than your birthday." " Chicago is the world's home for pizza."
Right?!?! That was HILARIOUS!!!
New York is where modern pizza was invented though. Chicago has nothing on New York pizza.
Ollie trying to crack him up is great. And Ollie succeeds!
New Jersey might have the best pizza, but there are a lot more styles of Chicago pizza than just deep dish, thin tavern cut is really popular
@@Scott_Silver best pizza in Italy dude
As someone who lives in Chicago, I can safely say that I've never seen a deep dish pizza look like that
Not. Even. Close. As somebody who has eaten a ton of deep dish, this is a no. It looks good, but it's not Chicago. Giordano's, Uno's, Lou Malnati's. GTFO

Been there multiple times, this ain't deep dish.
yeah this is not Chicago pizza. It looks okay but that crust is nothing like anything I've had in Chicago
I SECOND ALL OF THE COMMENTS ABOVE
Definitely take Mr. Z and do a tour of Italian food in America. The chemistry between you three guys is amazing. Ollie ordering those sandwiches from Mr. Z turned into a great friendship. He's so warm and funny and it's always great to see him interact with you guys. The episodes with Mr. Z are some of my favorite ones.
Yes, him trying Americas version of Italian foods should be highly entertaining
Mr Z is the perfect foil for the guys and the balance of charm, humor and genuine knowledge about food. They’re fun to watch.
Hell I think he'd be best getting a tour of Italian food in Italy, in every video it's like he never left his hometown and as far as he is concerned the entirety of Italy only does what he thinks. He's entertaining hut the arrogant Italian stereotype gets dull, especially when he's showing a completely blinkered view of his home

@@nullakjg767Now he needs to take him to Chicago and New York for the Best of Both Cities. Pizza two ways.
Here in Greece we eat watermellon with feta cheese .. so maybe the inventor of the hawaian pizza (who was Greek Canadian by the way) took this idea and put something sweet in the pizza to resemble this savoury-sweet experience.
Interesting hypothesis.
🤢💩
Watermelon is sweet but not acidic, I can see going well with the salty feta, just like prosciutto and melon we do in Italy.
But pineapple is damn acidic, and you are mixing it with already acidic tomato. NOPE.
@@fmls8266 rigth about acidity.

I think I saw an interview and he had some extra pineapple in a tin left over and tried it on a ham pizza. Turned out pretty good for the folks who like it. 👍
I just had a watermelon salad at a bbq and it was chunks of watermelon, feta cheese, cucumbers and basil and peppermint. It was so good.
I mean watermelon + feta cheese is the ultimate combo
why not? don't forget fennel.
Watermelon, feta, cucumbers, basil but Chilli flakes instead of peppermint. Trust me, it's good
Sometimes, just sometimes, Italians are a bit annoying with their food opinions

Dude, Mr. Z grows on me every single time he appears on this channel-it’s incredibly hard not to love him, he’s just so damn friendly and funny! 😂
I agree with you but I personally want to see a reaction video of him & of what they did to ruin Italian food in his eyes 🤣

I love how Ollie was trying to convince Mr. Z that Chicago deep dish pizza was indeed the original pizza from 2000 years ago. 😂😂 It was like trying to tell a child that Santa doesn’t exist.
The picture of the Pompeii dish is clearly a bread plate with a variety of items on it including a roll. A fairly common way to eat even in medieval times.
@@greatbriton8425 are you trying to say that a pizza is not a bread plate with a variety of items on it?
The oldest description of pizza is in the writings of Thucydides from Greece in the 400s BC.
Santa is real
I really would like to know how the romans managed to produce the sauce to a pizza without tomatoes. (Tomatoes: introduced to Europe ca. 1500 a.d.)😃
I always love his reaction 😂Also, this pizza does not compare to a real Chicago deep dish pie. The real one is much bigger and once you sit down and order it the wait time is almost an hour but it’s always worth the wait.
I wanna say something. I started watching Jolly during pandemic. It gave me so much joy and happiness and positivity. Then work life came post 2nd wave and I stopped watching. This is flashing me back to making friends with the Italian exchange students in school. A few were very much fond of Domino’s pizza, because “it’s not pizza, it’s a cheesy bread with toppings, and that’s not something we’re used to!”
That Mr. Z even tasted that Hawaii pizza shows he really likes you guys.
He took one for the Italian team.

I really hope they take him to Chicago :) The Italy trip videos with him were epic and a US trip series would be pretty fun too
So much amazing food in Chicago!
Agreed, GreyDevil!! It would be cool if they did a pizza trip: start in Chicago, then go to Detroit (“Buddy’s” is the originator of Detroit style), then on to NJ/New York and Massachusetts for the One Bite app top-rated places!

Apparently there is Indian pizza in India. Do they have it in London?
Hilarious. I don’t know why this channel makes me laugh so much, but it consistently does.
I might be a biased Chicagoan, but we do have some amazing pizza. Highly recommend a fly to Chi for a Za marathon. Lou Malanti’s, Pequod’s, And Spacca Napoli…you boys can’t go wrong.
He said eating pizza with a knife and fork was “blasphemy” but I’ve been to Italy twice and everyone there ate regular pizza with a knife and fork all the time in restaurants 😭
Yeah I’m not sure what he’s talking about, most pizza in Italy isn’t even served sliced so that’s why you use cutlery.
It depends where you are from. Where my mom is from you use a knife and fork, but do not do that in Naples.
Well we cut the slices with knife and fork yes, but we eat the single slices with our hands... that's what he was saying ^^`
Came for this, I've never been to one true pizza joint in Italy that wasn't knife and fork
Yeah! I had pizza in Milan and Venice last month - knife and fork was not unusual, especially with the thin and floppy style of wood fired pizza.
I love your segments with Mr. Z. He is so expressive and definitely doesn’t hold back on his opinions. I’d like to see Mr. Z be invited by the Korean Englishman channel for a food tour through South Korea at some future date. I think it would be amusing to say the least to see what he thinks of the Korean pizza style and on Korean food in general. Maybe he could meet up with Chef Paik for a segment
he would have an aneurysm when he sees corn on the pizza!

Crust to filling proportion is all wrong.
I am SO not a fan of Chicago deep dish... but even I was like, "What is this blasphemy??"
Agreed. Chicago doesn’t have a bready crust, it’s just thin crust pushed up against the sides of a deep pan to hold more ingredients.
@@sdafasdfasdfsdaI prefer deep dish to thin crust because I like a soft bread on the inside. I like to make pizza on garlic bread too.
That’s NOT Chicago deep dish pizza! Besides, you should try real Chicago pizza that we eat on a regular basis, tavern style, thin super crispy tavern style.
If they go to Chicago they need to try the 3 well known types: Tavern style, Deep Dish style, and Double Decker. If they have time they can try to get into Pizza and Oven Grinders for the rare 4th style.

Yes! Take Mr.Z to Chicago! As a Chicagoan I have recommendations! Malnati’s, Uno, and Pequod’s are great (look up Pequod’s). Also, try the tavern style thin crust. It’s got a thin, crispy crust, cut into squares, ask the locals which is better. On the south side they say deep dish is for tourists, there’s a big north/south rivalry. Try different spots, ask locals, have fun!
I came to say the exact same thing
I like Unos bc I'm on the east coast and it's all I can get. But in Chicago, I'd take Gino's over Unos. I wanna see Mr Z's face when confronted with the wheel of sausage, lol. And I know Malnati is king amongst you, but the sauce lacked something for me.
Head out into Chicagoland and hit-up Pal Joey's in West Chicago. Their pizza is SO good!
No to loumalnatis, def go to Giordano's
When it comes to tavern style, nothing beats Vito & Nick's! And I would argue these weren't deep dish. The crust looked very different, much puffier.
I’m from Chicago and since I live in the Midwest, ranch on pizza is VERY common. I switched out ranch for bleu cheese on my pizza and it’s become one of my favorite combinations. I’m glad Mr. Z can accept me for putting bleu cheese on pizza
Apples and cheese actually pair as well as a fruit wine and cheese. Cheddar cheese and Gouda are both good with apples, especially Gouda.

If you guys do an episode with Mr. Z in Chicago have him try a real deep dish pizza as well as a Chicago thin crust pizza(this pizza is just as well known and loved by locals as the deep dish.) As well have him try a an Italian beef with spicy giardiniera. All these items are SUPER POPULAR American Italian food and if eaten at the right establishments they are wonderful!!!!!
This video is so hilarious to me. I showed this to my husband. He's born and raised in Chicago, we currently live in Texas. His grandparents on his mom's side are immigrants from Italy. He raves about deep dish pizza. it has too much sauce for my liking, but it's good. 😂

It's interesting that Mr. Z mentioned putting pears and cheese together. I've actually had a pear and gorgonzola pizza in Italy, and I've honestly never seen anything like it at any pizzeria anywhere else in the world. He also mentioned apples and cheese, which are sometimes combined in apple pie here in the US. I've even had and apple, cheddar and jalapeno pie. Aside from that, I've seen fruit and cheese served together as part of a multi-course meal in France. I've seen fruit and cheese paired as part of a fondue in Switzerland. I could keep going, but the point is, fruit and cheese are paired together all the time. Not sure why pineapple and cheese would be different. Oh, also, Philadelphia makes a pineapple and cream cheese spread that goes on bagels. And it's pretty tasty.
Mr Z is also overlooking how the pineapple complements the ham on a Hawaiian pizza, and how tomato, which is a fruit, also pairs with cheese on every pizza, albeit in a paste / sauce form.
I was raised in Northern IL, and never heard of deep dish until Pizza Hut introduced it in the 70s. Deep dish in this town is for tourists. The best pizza here (city settled by Irish, Italian, and all manner of Scandinavians) is thin crust. Even the grocery store has better thin pizza than any chain or deep dish around. And none of them look like a "bowl".
Another great episode guys! One thing though - watermelon and cheese BANGS, had to be the right cheese though I.e. something salty like feta or even halloumi

Idk, I’m not a professional chef, but as an Italian I think that the American variants are legit. The New York and the Chicago variants aren’t obviously considerable Italian, but they have a story to tell.
I agree- just because some food has its origin in another country doesn't mean that if another country takes it and modifies it to their taste that is somehow isn't good. Sure you can say it is not real Italian style pizza but I don't know anybody was ever making that claim to begin with.
I don't think they are bad, just don't call that pizza. It's a cheese pie. As an Italian also, I find it so annoying! XD

this was too hilarious! 🤣hahahaha yes please come to Chicago with Mr. Z for deep dish pizza!
At least they were enjoying themselves. I suppose the pizza was good. Chicago style pizza is really great. The sauce on good pizza is always very flavorful. I grew up on thin crust pizza cut tavern style in squares. The awesome thing about tavern style pizza are the tiny triangle pieces on the edges that you can eat first when the pizza is very hot. Deep dish pizza with a crust with vegetable oil in it is very brown and has a few crunchy spots. Deep dish pizza usually comes to the table so hot that servers use a spatula to put your first slice on your plate. Every good pizzeria in Chicagoland also has shakers of parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes on the table.
The hilarious thing is that all of those cheese and fruit combinations Mr. Zee listed exist 😂. Hello watermelon and feta salad. Or Camembert and Apple. He has such a great sense of humour 😂.
I know people who put cheese on top of apple pie.
Come to SEA Asia, especially Indonesia. We have cheese w/ chocolate, even banana cheese choco or matcha with cheese as well 😂
So far I've found that if something doesn't go with cheese, you just haven't found the right cheese for it (unless you don't like cheese).
And then you get to a german crepes stand and you wonder, what Germans will hesitate to put onto a crepes pie. I've seen everything, from Nutella over Kinder, Herbs up till Leberkäse and Mustard!
Yes, Leberkäse and Mustard on a french pancake :D
@@feistsorcerer2251 For real though. There's a correct cheese to pair with everything.
Mr Z picks up and folds deep dish because he is an Italian bender. What a legend. Not to scandalize him on purpose but the first time I liked pineapple on pizza it was pineapple, blue cheese, and breakfast bacon.
Cheese with pineapple. Most definitely. Had cubed cheese and pineapple on sticks back in the 70s, and I am quite partial to a Hawaiian pizza once in a while 😊
"It almost unbelievable" the sarcasm 😂😂
First things first, as an American college student from the Midwest, saying this is authentic Chicago deep dish pizza is like saying that fortune cookies are an authentic Chinese tradition! Take Mr. Z on a REAL American Pizza tour! Keith from the Try Guys will show you and Mr. Z REAL Chicago deep dish pizza (he worked at a Chicago pizzeria back in the day) Casey Neistat can introduce you and Mr. Z to New York style pizza and I personally will show you Detroit style deep dish pizza from Michigan!!!!
To be fair, they said the restaurant used the original dough recipe. I don't know about the toppings though😂
@@Affranchie Sure, but you don't then bake that dough into a pie bowl or whatever these things are.
And more blasphemy 😂
You can just grab a deep dish pizza from Costco! Just as good 👍
St Louis style pizza !
The way they said "Noooo" at the mention of watermelon and cheese XD
I'm glad to let them know that having cold watermelon with bread and aged salty cheese is a delicacy in Egypt 😅esp during the hot summer XD it's a different take on the sweet and salty flavour that surprisingly works well 😆
in turkey white crumbly cheese and watermelon pairs together really well actually haha
in Italy is extremely common in the summer to have melon and salty ham, but not watermelon couse is too watery, we pair that mostly with other fruits and/or vodka! 😅
I knew the Ci-cago joke was coming. Mr. Z didn't disappoint.
I would LOVE to see Mr. Z go to Chicago. I think Mr. Z would benefit from trying the best NYC pizza that you guys ate in a previous video. Maybe a multi state Pizza tour????Esp on the East Coast = NYC. Connecticut pizza, New Jersey Boardwalk Pizza, Philadelphia pizza...maybe visit some Little Italys too while enroute. It would be EPIC.
I haven't used this phrase for a while now, but Mr. Z is the definition of "the Struggle is Real" while they were eating the Hawaiian deep dish pizza 😂
I love how mr.z grab the pizza crust with hand as soon as he finish the part that need to use fork n knife 😂
Pineapple is good as the acid substitute for the tomato instead of with it. I love a simple rustic crust, mozerella and asiago, fresh pineapple and fresh Jalapeño. May be more foccia bread than pizza though. But it's really good.
Mr. Z is one of my favorite guests! I need a Chicago episode w/ Mr. Z. Please
I had a Hawaiian pizza on a trip to Romania in the early 2000s. Due to the scarcity of pineapples in the country at that time they used apples instead. You know what? It was delicious!
As a romanian I am embarrassed but also nostalgic to hear that 😂😂😂😂
@@AndreikVlogs Don't be embarrassed, you have a beautiful country!
@mrmessy7334 only embarrassed about the apple 🍕
The chef is so cute lmao his smile especially ngl 😂
Look how embarassed Mr. Z with the Carbonara Pizza, Olly is really having fun with it 🤣
Because he’s a snob from the city. I come from small town in Piemonte, and I have seen much of the countryside in Italy. Carbonara pizza is a thing in Italy.
If you want the best deep dish, Pequods is the gold standard. But true Chicago-style pizza isn’t deep dish. It is the super thin crust tavern cut pie like you get at Vito & Nick’s. You should definitely visit our fair city with Mr. Z. So much to enjoy here!
I wish I could like this comment a hundred times.
I don't hate Pequods but I'm Lou Malnati's gal. :)
🤷♂️🤦♂️
Pizano Brothers thin crust 🍕👍
