I was searching for this comment. The first time I saw this film I was rather young, and this scene in particular along with the one where she saves Tombo at the end are the only two that stood out in my memory due to the strong emotional associations I had at the time of seeing them.
seeing visually now, without even the extra baking part we saw onscreen during the movie, just how much work is going into this, really hits home how much of a brat her granddaughter was
Alvin continues to be one of my absolute favorite additions to the BCU. He's charming, funny, and his voice is excellent for cooking voice-overs. Plus, there are TONS of anime dishes to recreate, I can't wait to see more!!

Someone once told me that a defining characteristic of Ghibli movies is how much you want to eat everything the characters eat XD Like even something as simple as a fried egg on an untoast unbuttered bread slice is appetizing ^^'

I have to say, I was skeptical when there was suddenly another voice telling me how to make anime food in my BCU, but Alvin has grown on me quite a bit. I like his style, where I am never quite sure if he is joking or not.

Canned herring? This is new! I usually use fresh herring. The city Kiki moves to is by the sea, so it's not unlikely the old lady would be able to buy some fresh. I layer it herring, bechemel sauce, baked and mashed kabocha and then puff pastry!

This movie is a big reason why I never fully want to get rid of my legal name. Then I wouldn't be able to be called Kiki anymore. This movie was one of the best and will always have a place in my heart~
I'll admit some slight disappointment when he finished the fish decoration and he didn't say, "You sir, are are fish." But I suppose that's too much of a weird crossover to be expected.
His voice is so soothing! Kikis’ delivery service is one of my first childhood cartoons, I used to watch it all the time as a kid. I didn’t have many friends since I immigrated, but anime/cartoons were always there to keep me company.

It's probably because of the video title length. "with Alvin Zhou" usually gets cropped out in the previews for me, especially on mobile.

"Little Guy" is adorable, but I'm not sure what to think about squash and fish.
Kabocha has a really nice flavor that's slightly nutty and a bit sweet that pairs pretty nice with a lot of different types of fish.
