- Despite its tortured history, this oddball 5-speed was once the fastest car in the world - and this particular XJ spent the last 12 years on the 37th floor of a Tokyo office building.

It is imo one of the most beautiful looking cars ever made.
James Tudor your boy Keith Helfet never went on strike
"As you can see were in the Jaguar section of the garage" the most understated flex ever...
A 500+ hp V6...in the early 90's?!? Wow, talk about being ahead of it's time.
AMENNN !!! ! !!!
Freaking turbos man
@@calska140 Proving Ben Bond's point: Chiron? Quad-turbo 1500 HP. Just saying... 2 decades later.
@@LauWo
Adding to his point more like, but we all know the numbers turbos put up (even sophisticated twin scroll and sequential turbos) aren't the whole story...that's about all I can really object. Turbos (forced air induction in general) really do amazing things and we're blessed to live in an age where a commercial production car can have 900hp reliably and still use 87 octane, with modern fly by wire systems making it safe for the average "mid life crisis man" to drive to Arby's. 900hp in the late 60's was a hobbiest's street drag car that took AvGas and it wouldn't be long for this world if you drove it more than twice a month.
The engine started life in the Metro 6R4 Group B rally car......
Jaguar truly make some 10/10s sometimes throughout the years. This XJ being one. What a beauty. Inside and out. And has aged incredibly well.
This car screams 90's in all the good ways. Such great lines, beautiful to look at.
I respect the owner. It is apparent that even though he's very rich, he still has a humbleness to him. He didn't try to steal the show from Jay, he didn't inflate his statements, he didn't cut Jay off, he's just as mellow as can be and showed respect. He has money, but it hasn't gone to his head and my hat's off to him for that.
Mr. E godammit! I literally blew on my phone screen three times!! Well played.
I came down in the comments just to make sure that man was getting props. I wasnt dissapointed
Heh heh, you got me too!
The FP Journe watch that he has on the wrist probably cost as much as the car !
Thanks for the fingerprint on my screen.
Kudos to Phillip and Jay, the car owner is a gentleman, no interruptions, no spouting off, just a good guy car enthusiast. he tells Jay, "you can borrow it".
I've got a Jaguar section of my garage. There are no vehicles in it.
And I have got a house section of my house. There is no garage in it.
Heck it, there is no even house. It is just an apartment box.
I did saw the ones with teeth, slit eyes and four paws
You are my new favorite person. 🤘
liverush24 just seen this video, and your comment. I had a full-on snot lol at that, so thanks!
@liverrush24
I got the same problem with the "Ferrari section" in my garage.
Jay literally just said "as you can see, we're in the jaguar section of the garage" I had to pause the video for a moment to both laugh at and reflect upon the preposterousness of that statement. Fucking awesome. I hope one day my garage has sections.
You and me Both lol see you at the top Remember my name Sheldon Holmes
my garage has sections : needs to be fixed & really needs attention now !!!!!
I don't have a garage.
Paul Biggs I get the JagUar part, but you can't judge people for not saying aluminium when it's not spelt so
Paul Biggs American English and British English are two dialects that actually exist believe it or not.
I know you don't care but it is truly incredible how arrogant and pompous you Brits can be with your claims to proper speaking.
No matter how much you want your way to be the correct way will never be so. AmE and BrE are both correct ways of grammar and pronunciation! In fact..if you look Jaguar up in the dictionary you would see there are more than one way to pronounce. Jag-wahr, jag-yoo-ahr, jag-yoo-er. I do get your claim to "royalty" since we are talking about a British car. But here's the thing...it's a large feline! You know...a cat! And the word originates from the Portuguese language. So what basis do you really have for correcting anyone and insisting that your way is the correct way for everyone?
I hate to break it to you but no American says Jag-yoo-ahr. Same with "Coupe" (koop and koo-pay). we dont say bonet or boot either. It simple..AmE and BrE! Why do you people have such a difficult time accepting these dialects and pronunciations and meaning?
Don't be such an uptight arse-hole!
You sound like you could really use a vacation....woops, I meant holiday.
Btw..what do you people call a holiday in America anyway?
I love 90's supercars, they just have some kinda strange noble "just right" vibe to them..
they are not over designed, no useless fancyness, no over the top stuff, but on the other hand they are noticeably more advanced and smoother then the 80's supercars, and they still dont have the electronic drive assist stuff yet which came in in the 00's, so they are a joy to drive.
My thoughts exactly!! 💯
i aspire to one day also say "today we are in the jaguar section of the garage"
You may end up as a car salesman
same. I might have a McLaren section and a Ferrari section if I was rich
"and I have a few Ferraris tucked in that corner, hey Joey could you show him"
I just got there myself.. and let me tell you.. its everything you would think its cracked up to be..
I said it today. There wasn't a jaguar and i wasn't in a garage but i said it. Felt amazing
Very underrated car by enthusiasts, always wanted one of these
28 minutes video on a Mustang and only 12 on a gem like this? come on!
Yeah, hard to believe he spent more time on a car that out performs it in every aspect worth noting and is actually relevant in 2016. I really want to know more about this overrated land boat that curls up into the fetal position and cries every time you reach a corner. Maybe if you were talking about the Ferrari F40 or Ford GT40 I'd at least kind of agree with you, but this is honestly probably the most overrated car in the world. They took a V6 and stuck 2 massive turbos on it, then threw it in a kind of aerodynamic shell and paid no attention at all to the actual drivability of the thing. That is actually quite similar to the story of the Lamborghini Miura, but the Miura is the first supercar, it inspired things like the Aventador, the 918, the P1, the Enzo, and the aforementioned Ford GT. The XJ220 did nothing it was cool in the 90's for the sake of being cool in the 90's... And absolutely nothing else.
+MaxTheKanuck I think it is a nice car and even if it wasnt as good as you or me could imagine still is a more interesting car than a Mustang or that Ariel atom based "super car" we saw last week. I even wanted to Jay to talk about the lights on this car, some clever ingeniring (i know i mispelled it. i hate that word) when in to those head lights.
This was my first thought too!
he spent 17minutes on the Datsun truck whose wheels rubbed the fenders every bump they went over.
+MaxTheKanuck yea
The owner seems like a cool guy. Not your typical snob d-bag dude. And I respect the fact that he doesn't treat a truly great car like a trailer queen.
James Watts sees that the car has only done 388 miles
That is generally problem with US oldtimer owners. They don't drive them. In 20 years there will be nobody to repair them. Why? Car that just sits in garage doesn't need lots of maintenance. You would say what is problem with that. Problem is auto mechanics specialized in oldimers need cars that needs to be repaired to stay in business.
James Watts yeah you can tell he really appreciates the car. Which is unfortunately a rarity among some rich people with nice cars.
zpetar you need to drive your car from time time
zpetar when brands have a car like this, they’ll always have at least a small group of people trained to work on them, even if they primarily work with less exclusive cars, they’ll still be able to if needed
the XJ220 has always been one of my favorite Jaguars. Beautiful car.
This was one of my many favorites when I was a kid in the early 90's. Always loved the shaping of this car.
My dream supercar from the 1990s. I fell in love with the aesthetics of this thing when I was a kid and I STILL haven't see one...
Noah Covell same for me, remember seeing it over 10 years ago in a book and just simply can't forget it. I'd give an arm and leg to see this car in the flesh
if you ever visit las vegas there is a car museum above this random casino that has one. its free too
Theres one at the coventry transport museum in england.
I remember rocking it in Need For Speed 2!
Yessssss
+Brian Kennedy yes, over serial networking cable !
+loadfaster Dude, that's awesome that you worked on the PSX version. I agree with the rims being janky, but I'd have to feel it in person to know the rest.
Yessss I'm starting to feel old. For me it was need for speed 3 hot pursuit...so many great cars in that game
yap I wanted to mention that looks like we r from the same generation ; )
I agree, its one of the most beautiful car shapes made imo. So smooth....
This is always on my "to buy" list in every racing game I play. A must have
The owner had a cool relaxing personality
Thats because he owns that Jaaaag.
the owner looks exactly like will carling the old england rugby captain
Agreed, Guy seems like a good dude
The owner was really cool! What a car he got! And he's going to drive it! How it should be!!
Something about Jag owners is way less #edgy than other luxury/sports/super car owners. They're almost always chill. Porshe guys are aight too, as long as you don't ask if it's air-cooled or pull up in a Boxster like you belong.
Consistently the best car videos on CZcams
Damn I miss the 90's...such an epic time
It is just so beautiful , especially in that color
Man cars are such pieces of art
Kevin Monzon well, there some that are pieces of shart
Hey are you implying woman cars are not? Sexist pig.
@@jcarter7731 Anything Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Hyundai or Kia lol
Even with that big dent in the back of it!
Were
This was mine and my best friends favorite car. He was later killed by a drunk driver in his early 20's and when he was buried, we buried him with a Maisto model of this car. He was a good guy and a huge fan of this car.
Sorry to hear that. I had the die cast of this car too.
FerrariDMC oh man I'm sorry that's so sad
may his memory live on, sorry for your loss mate.
FerrariDMC dude that put a tear in my eye. Ur a good friend.
Rest in peace to your friend man. This made me cry a little. You're a great man with a big heart, and I feel your pain. I hope his killer received Swift Justice
Hey Jay. I just want to relay how much I appreciate what you're doing with this channel. I come from an automotive background, my grandfather building the family garage back in the 20's but I've learned a great deal viewing these videos. The old steam vehicles, electrics, right though the golden era cars of the 60's domestic and from overseas, right up to present day. Your passion and knowledge is an inspiration.
Test Drive 6 and Need for Speed 2 was where I learned to love this car. Timeless look
I think the design has aged very, very well. It is a magnificent looking car! Thanks to Jay and the owner for sharing these!
540 HP. From a 3.5L V6. IN 1993?!! That's *way* ahead of its time. Unbelievable!
The tws ones made 700bhp
I remember seeing this XJ220 in Silver at the 1992 MotorShow in Birmingham, U.K. aged 13...I had to politely push my way through the crowd to see it!
It's very luxurious compared to the Ferrari F40, Diablo and McLaren F1! 😀👌
That color-shift paint-job takes that car to a whole new level of cool.
another amazing video!! If i may make a suggest, I would love to see a re-do of your McLaren F1 videos. Now that you are posting in HD and such it would be awesome to see such an amazing car looked at once again.
That would be great.
That, and just a re-do of all of his cars. I've been watching this show since it was run on his website, but since moving to youtube, nbc grabbed hold of his site and decided that they didn't want to host the entire archive of videos, so all the old content was deleted, and the videos on his cars are far fewer than the videos on guest cars. Sad really, I was introduced to the show looking up videos on the Bugatti Atlantic, my favourite car as a kid around 8 years ago, and now that car sits in the background of every one of his videos but it never gets the attention it deserves.
+Tiff Nidell Yes, please do another McLaren F1 Video, Jay!
+Tiff Nidell Both the F1 and LCC Rocket!
***** wut?
DUDE, so cool to see this car on here. It's one of my all time favorites. I love it.
Top Gears Tiff Needell made an interesting point about the top speed test being done at Nardo, with that 217mph figure equating to 223mph on a straight road.
my actual dream car since i was in elementary school. i think i first saw it in a grand turismo game. truly beautiful and timeless
Need For Speed II SE introduced me to this car. Also had a Maisto diecast of it. Was my favorite dream car as a kid in the 90s.
Me too. Lot of great cars in NFS II SE... the Isdera Commendatore, Italdesign Nazca, Elise GT1, etc.
+diast lmao me to.
+airtec87 I have one. Along with all the other 90's supercars like the EB110 and Diablo.
Funnily enough, it seems that you and I, played the same games, and had the same Maisto models!
It was my Childhood dream car as well
Amazing that a 23 year old car can still look so futuristic!
Jay's reaction is perfect. Delightful.
I gave this car away as a gift about six years ago. I bought it at an auction. It was 1:18th scale. The recipient loved it!
I drove one about 15 years ago. I worked in a shop that spruced up exotic cars that just sold. Honestly, it felt like a toyota camry if you didn't floor it for more than 2 seconds. It drove well and behaved well on the road. I drove it from south beach to delray, FL. I changed the oil, belts, and tires- "test drove it", then drove it back to south beach. It was a great experience. The turbo lag was similar to an F-40 but the 220 was much more comfortable and pleasant. Having said that, the turbo porcshe from that era was the perfect blend of the two. It had the pleasant drivability of the 220 until you hit the gas... then, it was the violent f-40 monster, only with german precision.
Glad to hear it runs as good as I always dreamed it would. Since I was born in 92, I never had any reservations about V6 vs V12. This car just floated in the ether of racing games and posters but I never really knew much about it. I had no idea it held such astonishing racing pedigree (10 year Nuremberg ring record!). I really enjoyed seeing it be driven and getting a good look at the interior. Now off to put this car through its paces in Forza 6 haha.
it also won its class at the 1993 Le Mans 24 hours beating Porsche by 2 laps only to be disqualified on a minor technicality
Come on Jaguar just make the CX-75 please!
If he pushes them you know they are going to make it
Remember when he Jay was ask to test the p1
+Cam & Ryan maybe change the name, but yes build it!
+Cam & Ryan if you ask nicely in hindi they will make it
+Mr. Ixolite™ I would love to believe you (/your Dad;-)), but as far as i am informed, Jaguar is not building this car (ever) because it wouldnt be cost effective.. which is a shame!
Jay, I love the way how you honestly just tell what winds you up. The XJ 220 is my all time favourite and seeing you drive it, made my day. Thank you
"that's a Kardashian rear end" lmao
I remember racing this car in Need for Speed 2 back in the mid 90s on PS1. :)
+loadfaster ate you kidding me? That was the first video game I ever played and I live in Burnaby
+loadfaster Just out of curiosity was Don Mattrick involved in making this game? I understand he was head of EA Canada back in the 90s which puts NFS2 in the area. Don went on to head Xbox and lost his job for screwing the launch of the Xbox One, then he became CEO of Zynga where I believe he is no longer there.
+roush26 Don Mattrick was studio head at EAC in the PS1 era, he had no hands-on role on any games.
Back when EAC was still Distinctive Software (pre EA-buyout), they had done Test Drive II: The Duel for Accolade in 1989, and the TDII engine with some upgrades was the basis of the first Need For Speed.
+ronjon83 Me too bud!
+ronjon83 That's right.
I enjoyed the passion for this car that was shown from Jay and the owner.
And in the best colour combo...dark blue with gray interior! Way to go Philip!!!
One of my favorite cars of all time, Thanks Jay I owe you that much!
Jay, you never disappoint. This car is perfect.
And just think, all these hypercars today, over 900bhp in some of them, don't even reach 217mph. This thing did it with only 540hp. An amazing feat. Maybe we haven't come as far as we'd like to think sometimes...
+95mushroom exactly.
That usually has more to do with a Cars aerodynamic design and drag than HP.
+95mushroom Downforce...
+95mushroom Top speed is a waste product. The Civic Type R is as fast as this around the Nurburgring....
+Ethan Heisler And on top of that it achieved that top speed with a V6 and a % speed trans!!! hypercas now have 9 or 8 speeds ect and still dont hit 220....
Thanks Jay for having this Jaguar on your show!
Quoting you: Fantastic Car.
This is the first time I've ever had to push back tears watching JLG. I've always wanted a clean silver XJ220- this blue is gorgeous! Back then I was driving a '91 Testarossa instead. Everyone has always thought I was nuts for wanting one of these so badly. A few years ago Gooding & Co. was auctioning off a stunning example and I asked a capable friend to give it a proper inspection. He never found the car and it traded in the money I was ready to pay. One day I'll find another. Until then, God bless Jay, and I'd love to hear if this owner has hit 25k miles yet! Cool goal and neat person to be on this series.
Best Wishes to Everyone-
Nick
The problem with the interior is that it used bits from the Ford parts bin, like the air vents and temperature matrix, so in Europe it looked a bit like a Ford Escort. Someone who could afford one of these had probably never seen the inside of a Ford Escort before, but journalists who'd review everything could see the similarities, maybe that is why the interior had a bad press.
This has that DISTINCT "90'S look" to it.
(You know the "rounded edges", lots of lines, and big overhanging butt like the Fast and Furious vehicles.)
I've always hated the 90's head/taillights lol, they always look like a grid.
But this JAG looks AMAZING! It truly looks like a modern supercar, way ahead of it's time.
I'm remember the test review like it was yesterday. They removed the cats and got the XJ up to 217 from 212mph on Nardo's test track. Scrub, due to the banking, taken into consideration; they estimated that on a straight piece of road it would do 223mph. Jaguar has always been a bit creative with its performance figures but I'm willing to give this the benefit of the doubt... :o)
I am more likely to say "I am in the garage section of my jaguar" than I am ever likely to say "I am in the jaguar section of my garage"
You old dogs had posters of the LP400 in your bedrooms as kids. Us youngsters had posters of the XJ220. Thanks, Jay!
Oh my god, that is an amazing looking car! And to be made in the 90's?!? Crazy!
Stunning. One of the best to upload on this channel
@11:09 "it's, it's better than a Mc...(laren)" jay was so amazed with the XJ220 he almost said it was better. 😅
I remember getting this in a hot wheels set when I was younger. Can't wait to pass it down to my future kid.
I hope you're not sterile, buddy.
+jo23bulls Ditto, boss! I got one, in pearl white, as a Christmas gift, from my 6th grade teacher, and fell in love with the shape instantly!
+revolutionday1 the teacher or the car?
Son of a Zombie
I see what you did there....
+jo23bulls Me TOO!!!!
I've always stated the xj220 is one of the best looking cars ever and so many people doubted the car saying it wasn't great how can you not love it? the sound of that sounds better then any v6 I have ever heard and it's still the world's fastest v6 and I mean cmon you gotta admit a twin turbo v6 making that much power back in the day is simply staggering still one of my favorite cars ever I remember seeing it race against the Lamborghini calá on need for speed se in that deep purple
+Aaron Bradley in the 80s and 90s they build alot of sportcars with an aerodynamic
design languange (low profile, no hard angles) nowadays everything has
to look sharp and aggressive, i own a 2001 z28 camaro totally love it
cause it still has that strange 90s look to it :-)
European car designers ( especially Italian and British ) have got to go back to the drawing board because of idiotic US legislation/lobby groups who says you've got to have the headlights a certain height in conjunction with the windscreen etc etc f-ing yank bollocks
The ford gt pushes 647hp and hits 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds into a top speed tested so far at 216.
AAron, the cam profile back then was pretty radical for it's time. I am not speaking of lift and overlap, etc. but rather the profile itself was asymmetric. TWR found that if you ramp up the uphill side quicker it had the effect of a longer/higher duration/lift. The downhill side was pretty everyday cam design. The cam profile was brought over to the US via a tuner and it was copied by several shops and used by GM.
Thank you Phillip & Jay, I'm absolutely smitten with this car
The best showing of XJ220 ever, thanks guys what a brilliant car, what a brilliant show
Holy crap how the interior has dated, but my goodness is the exterior design timeless.
I rather liked the interior. And the gauge cluster in the door panel- WHAT??!? I really enjoyed that! But then, I've been in love with this car since its release, and sadly, still haven't seen one in real life
I love 90s interiors personally. The one in this one is awesome to me.
get a cheap BMW if you want better interiors.
Absolutely! The exterior of McLaren 650S doesn't really look better.
That is because you don't see XJ220 every day, but at the same time the interior bits are taken from various lower cost cars, so you have seen them all. Many cars are like that.
"This one won't be [a low mileage car]" - This is an awesome owner!
Jaguar flew their prototype XJ220 to showcase it on the lawn at Pebble Beach Concours in August of 1992. I was fortunate enough to see the car in person and meet Jay Leno there the same afternoon. Then I drove home to Los Altos in my 1953 Jaguar XK 120 Fixed Head Coupe. Of course it overheated..still a day to remember!
I have such a soft spot for these. They have to be my favorite 90s supercar. The Diablo is cool, but this just has something I can't put my finger on.
总抢不上沙发...such a fan of this xj, so rare that I might never see one in person.
+Charlie G you missed it when it was on the 37th floor
+Charlie G I saw it at a car show in Buckhead, GA
Some 70 year old dude with a 20 year old girlfriend lol
+Charlie G Ghost in the shell yo.
I bet Batou would drive a GTR.
+cybertree now that you brought it up, I too totally see him in a GTR. Too bad the story is too futuristic timeline wise, all he cars looked weird.
+biunzRS that's how it goes bruh. When he was 50, the girl was a fetus. Anyways, I kinda hope Houston has some more classic awesome cars driving on the streets. Need more REAL car shows and gatherings.
Anyone notice that dent on the back of the car where the Jaguar logo is?
Yes, at the letter G. Too bad. But I think it still repairable. Hope he will repair it.
+Faissal O C Ard There's also a lot of paint chips in the front for a car with just 2100 miles.
+Faissal O C Ard I thought that was great.
+Faissal O C Ard You're kidding right? They focused the camera on it twice for at least half the friggin' video. EVERYone with eyes saw it...so what, it's a real car, not an office queen (wait, what?).
+cominacatcha Or maybe not. At least while he's driving it. There's something really badass about a supercar with little blemishes here and there to show you that it isn't some show car or trailer queen. These cars are made for driving.
You did it again, Jay !
Thank you
My Jaguar section, I saved this Video. Thanks Jay, for letting us ride in a Jaguar XJ-220. We live through you. You are my analog. I would ask the same questions, & have the same reactions.
My buddy had a post of this car back in the day and I remember thinking that's the only jaguar I'd ever own. I'd drive one of the newer ones now too but I'd take this one in a heart beat.
Never a truer word said Jay, " I should of bought one when they were $80,000." Superb piece of British engineering and styling.
I saw one at en exhibition in my town. I can't remember exactly the price tag, but it was between 3 or $4000,000.
I've been looking for one for 14 years NEVER SAW ONE FOR 80 GRAND
Save Ason
I remember looking into these back in 2005 or so and seeing dozens of them for under 100k. They were dirt cheap tickets to supersport entry in the early 00's.
Sleepingdragon 1 Jay spells it: *Should HAVE*!!!
Its sad where jlr today goes..
This was the first car I fell in love with as a kid, In my opinion its the first hyper car!
I absolutely fell in love with the beautiful looks of this car when I first saw pictures of it in car magazines. I bought a 1 1/8th Mastio die cast of it in this same color when I was a teen. Thanks.
Loved tht car on NFS2
This was the fastest production car in it's time indeed.. in terms of top speed.
It's in the Guinness World Record Book of 1993 :)
W
+Advection357 It was the fastest car for a brief period untill Mclaren F1 came out in the same year.
The Mclaren F1 top speed was only measured in 1998 however, but in 1993 it was a faster car than the XJ220, it simply hadn't been tested yet.
Aaron Richards You need a huge straight to test Top Speed, Mclaren wasn't aiming to be the fastest car, they simply tested it because they might as well, they wanted a car that gave the most feedback to the driver. A real driver's car.
They used the same circuit used to test the Buggatti Veyron, so it's not surprising it took them so long to be able to test it.
+Advection357 And it had a V6! Imagine that!
Fun fact: its still the fastest production v6 till this day!
I put together a model of this car in 1994 in that deep maroon color. I remember being super proud of it and even took in in for show and tell in 3rd grade lol. The XJ220 has always been a very beautiful car and was ahead of its time with its turbo 6 drive train in a super car. Still looks great today and is still fast even by modern standards. Thank you to the owner for sharing such a great example of the 220 and thanks to Jay for showing it to all of us!
My favorite all time car !!!! Thanks Jay for this episode
This was my favourite Need For Speed 2 car. But with the wine red color :)
a great review, thanks Jay and to the owner for rescuing The Jaaaag.
When people throw shade on the interior, I think they forget that automotive interiors were fairly atrocious from about 1970-ish to about 2010-ish and this is clean, simple, and gives you what you need!!
Its a beautiful piece of art ' in true Jaaag tradition ... Future big bucks
“Oh dear, I seemed to have left my wallet” pats pockets
I think one of the main reasons the car was looked down upon is brand integrity - the V6 engine in the car was derived from the unit used in the Rover Metro 6R4 rally car - which was engineered by Tom Walkinshaw Racing (now called Walkinshaw Performance) which also engineered the XJ-220. So a lot of potential buyers were upset that not only was it not a V12, it wasn't even originally a Jaguar engine at all. It would be like Ferrari deciding to use a turbocharged V6 from a Toyota Camry in one of their cars instead of a Ferrari V12. That would definitely piss off a lot of people.
People who understand engineering would have absolutely no problem that the design was changed and that a turbocharged V6 and rear wheel drive were found to be a better solution to an all wheel drive V12. I love cars and I love V12 engines but I also want a car to have the best power plant for that car in particular.
Originally Jaguar designed the car around a streetable version of its 7 litre V12 which was being used in the XJR-9 racing car. So the hype around the XJ-220 was built up around the fact that it was basically going to be a street version of the XJR-9, which dominated sports car racing in the late 80's.
TWR and Jaguar did actually make something closer to a street version of the XJR-9 in the early 90's - called the XJR-15, with the V12 - but it is extremely rare.
+Simon Coles - You sense even TWR were disappointed hence they went on to make the XJR-15 - I saw these racing at Silverstone when they first came out. They sounded lovely with a V12.
+Simon Coles I got to sit in a racing xjr 15- at 6'1" there was very little space inside with off set pedals to steering wheel. a very claustrophobic cabin. Beautiful car tho.
+Simon Coles - The engine in the Metro 6R4 is a derivative of the Rover (formerly Buick) V8 engine. It was too bulky to fit in the back of the Metro, so they cut two cylinders and (literally!) welded it back together - hey presto, a 2.5 litre Rover V6!
+Simon Pass God, not that old myth.
The V64V engine was a clean sheet, pure race car design and in no way related to the Rover V8. It was designed by a Cosworth engineer and developed by Patrick Head at Williams F1.
The myth started because the Metro 6r4 chassis development mule was powered by a cut down Rover V8 until its proper engine was ready.
I had a model XJ220 in British Racing Green next to my bed as a kid and a poster of one in silver. Love the fact the owner wants to put miles on it. You're lucky in the states and Europe, no way I've got a chance of seeing one in the flesh here in Australia.
My dad always had Jags, he now owns his favourite: a 2002 XKR Silverstone. Jaguar will always have a special place in my petrol heart.
Also: 50.000*1500=75.000.000. That's 75 million... No wonder they had a whole herd of angry customers on their hands.
Last thing: I like the owners "It wont be" when Jay mentions lots of XK220s are low mileage. Chapeau Sir! Cars are ment to be driven!
And now all racing cars are V6's. I remember Martin Brundle saying that if the tyres had been better, they would have hit 220 easily on the track in Nardo Italy. The most beautiful of all the supercars.
Who else remembers this car in Need For Speed :D

Yep this and the XJR-15
Used to like it as a kid playing NFS 4 High Stakes
And grand turismo
Used to play XJ220 on the Amiga, back in the day's of floppy disks!
8:51 - Such a nice guy! Jay can borrow my 2004 Honda Civic anytime as well! Just so i can hang out in his garage. LOL
Rich people always like to hang out with famous people especially if you're rich fat, ugly and getting on like this guy so a billionaire or not I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to hang out with the denim monster, I bet there at the gentlemens club now with a couple of 20 year old topples models crawling all over them for $$$$. When your rich you can buy normal run of the mill poor friends but it's not easy trying to buy friends who are famous and already have plenty of money! What you need then is contacts like Leno to introduce you because just being rich isn't enough to buy real famous friends!
I love being a troll, slagging people who I've never met off
Always loved this car - starting from the date the Amiga 500 game came out Jaguar XJ220 :) - back in the early 90s. This was the poster car really. A dream.
It’s JULY 2018 .. and I saw this car in person at Lamborghini Troy in Michigan. This car is so big like he said. This car is so beautiful and so rare. So cool to see it in person.
"This one wont be" Bravo sir. It SHOULD be driven!
This was my #1 car in Forza. I didn't ever think it was a real car!
Old comment, I realize, but I just had to say Forza was where I first saw it too. I immediately looked it up to see if it was a real car because I thought it was the coolest looking vehicle in the game. Beautiful lines.
That first shot on the road really capture's the cars presence. What an extrordinary vehicle
I was in love with that car when it made the mags back then..My Real Estate career never exceeded the price tag and I ended up buying a old Triumph Bonnie as my ride and selling my Caprice when the market went away and becoming a beach bum...I'm ok now but still not in that league to buy even one of anything Jay has and their stands my hero with more than 200 cars and 200 motorcycles and such a cool man to share his collection with us..and yes like Jay I slept in my first car at 17 in 1970 but mine was a 57... 2 door Belair...been a long ride...
This Jaguar XJ220 has a better sounding V6 than the F1 V6's
Very nice looking Jaguar. Great video as always Jay.
This car is what got me into cars. I got some 3 ring binder with a bunch of car specs and pictures. This was in there and wanted one ever since
My buddy is head engineer at a classic car restoration shop so I get to go for rides all the time. This thing is fast, seriously fast. The interior feels like the dashboard is a mile wide. Beautiful and elegant to this day.
