THIS IS HOW YOU DO A BILL WURTZ INTERVIEW. i love how you aren't afraid to let him think, and aren't afraid to think of what to say either, and attempt to understand when he feels uncomfortable answering a question! phenomenal job; i've watched all bill wurtz interviews and yours is the best i've seen so far. so happy this happened!
Thank you so much!! I love how everyone's cool with me thinking of what to say, or trying to understand Bill. I think it's better to think first instead of just winging it and giving a mid question or response to something he says, or any of my guests I have on :)
Even though this was 2 hours long I kinda felt sad when it finished! I think there was a type of authenticity which you rarely see in an interview and I am glad Bill suggested keeping in the pauses. Humility and warmth is a great virtue and also a great trait for interviewing.
It seemed like you did a great job at supporting Bill to feel comfortable, particularly with the attention to detail in how you asked questions.
Also, 12 TET tuning marked the beginning and end of the interview. Full circle!
Keep doing you
he really just said "no" 😂 I love this guy 0:07
It was nice to hear you guys talk unedited - it felt genuine and raw.
Thank you! That's something I'm aiming towards with the podcast, I'd like to keep it raw unless we (the guest and I) decide to edit anything out if we really have to.
That was probably my favourite interview with Bill, good job man!
You have no idea how much this means to me, thank you so much!!!
@@nolanbrewermusic no problem! :)
This podcast is gonna change the world.
so true
"I was gonna ask you, do you like things? Never mind" brilliant 1:00:42
Bill Wurtz is such a fascinating person in every sense of the word
Did "Can I think for a second?" come from Dr. K (Healthy Gamer GG), maybe? He says that all the time.
Oh yeah, it did!! I used to watch his videos all the time, but when Bill asked about it I couldn’t remember exactly where I got it. I also didn’t want to get it wrong haha.
@nolanbrewermusic that's fair. I used to watch it all the time, too. It's like eavesdropping on a therapy session, and he's just so damn good at it, it's fascinating to watch!
@@talibennett782Yeah he’s really smart. His channel is really good for learning about mental health and stuff like that (although, it’s not a replacement for therapy in any way)
@@nolanbrewermusic And I mean it's all different tools of course. You can find good tools from all kinds of sources and often they are not mutually exclusive, and all tools have their pluses and minuses. A good therapist can be very valuable, sometimes that's what you really need, the huge array information on his channel can be very valuable well, likely in different ways also than whatever therapist you might find you jive with.
How did you even find this man?
his point about learning to program out of necessity is so relatable. i studied a bit of CS in college but i didn't seriously learn how to program until i was 17. i used a for loop on my TI-84 to automate a really boring task in class. i learned javascript not because i wanted to learn web development (as people often do), but because i wanted to do crazy things in after effects. at the end of the day programming is just another kind of problem solving, so the best way to learn it is to have a problem you really want to solve
53:08 Bill met John from vlogbrothers? That’s pretty crazy, lol
This is a really cool talk with Bill, thanks to you two! Nice that it is two hours too
Hearing Bill Wurtz mention the bassist Sharay Reed without knowing who Corey Henry is pretty funny (sharay has played for corey for years)
You’re an amazing host!! Loved this video. Can’t wait to see more😊🎶
Thank you Clara! I upload the podcast every Friday - there will definitely be more :)
It's weird. I feel like I can never properly explain my internal process with words. Like I can talk in my head and I'm like yeah okay but it comes out as word vomit. But then I see this video and other various things and I feel like I understand it better than other forms of content. I am also a musician so maybe words just aren't how I'm meant to express myself. Does anyone else feel the same? Thank you.
Hey! Don't feel bad about that at all. I used to feel this way back when I was in highschool, and all I can say is that it's gotten better with time for me. I did have to put a lot of effort into improving that and I've mostly done this by putting myself out there socially, either from doing this podcast or talking to as many people as I can irl. Just know that it's not something you should worry about too much, with a little bit of time and effort you can learn how to express your thoughts better. That doesn't have to be through words either!
In pragmalinguistics it's pretty much unanimously accepted that language (as in words arranged in sentences in social contexts) is just not sufficient when you're trying to get a thought across!! It'll never be exactly the thought that you have in your head. I think some people notice this more within themselves than others do, which makes them trip up more when they notice that what they're saying isn't exactly what they're thinking and that's why they have a hard time expressing themselves (this is not based on any research this is just an intuition I have). But yea it could be that you're just more at home in music because of this and it's not a negative thing it's actually completely normal and natural. (Or I could be completely wrong about this)
oh also just going off that for me that has been a very comforting thought like you're never gonna get an exact copy of your thought to come across to whomever youre speaking to (and even if u could it would still be a copy and not your thought) so like what you say doesn't have to be perfect but you can still try kinda like in religion when you try to get as close to god as possible even though you know you can never get there in your life but you still try just because.
bill wurtz is such a delightfully strange human being & so clearly a genius in his craft, & you handle it with such admirable humanity & grace! watching you start to smile every time he starts really getting into something technical is so much fun to watch, best bill wurtz interview ive seen for sure! :)
I’m so grateful that you loved it, thank you for the kind words 😄🙏
