  • At The Hindu Lit for Life discussion on ‘What ails Indian science and what can be done about it’, Nobel Laureate Venki Ramakrishnan said, “When you are young it is much easier to absorb concepts in your native language.”
    He said from developing science books in regional languages - including 95% of the population that has no knowledge of English - to initiating dialogue with the 5% English-speaking privileged scientists, a range of solutions had to be pursued.

    Our science advisor cannot answer single question properly , because we all know that the questions asked by Dr.Venki Ramakrishna are unanswered from decades

    How can we expect our countries progress in especially medical research when nearly 60 percent of our medical institutions had no peer reviewed publications for a decade or so and no recognition and encouragement of any sort for doing basic research in medical sciences in the country and over all almost all doctors satisfied with the income they get by their private practice and working in a so called multi-speciality hospitals alone with no serious academic activities.

    Indian subcontinent is stuck in medieval mind set and trying to go further backwards. Just look at the last 10 years budget allocation on two counts education and defense. This literature festival will also become like November music festival... Elitist, feel great about the community you belong, go back and maintain status quo. Please listen to the key message of Venki that's about inclusiveness of 95%.

      Exams for cow are happening, and about 750 crore are given to that.
      And Jadavpur University is not getting funding for research in science 😂

      Compare the same with videos of sadhguru, beerbiceps and other pseudoscientists 😂

      @@MG-qu9ig It's because Sadhguru and Beer Biceps thrive in glorification of past. It's easier to just think that we are great and were always great due to our ancestors than putting in time and money to make our future great.
      One is easier to do than the other.

    I vouch for "keeping in the learning mode for a long time." Have an exploratory outlook with the attitude that "one is looking for something".

  • @ravichanana3148
    @ravichanana3148 Před 9 měsíci

    Just explore with "looking for something attitude" given the freedom to do so. One does not need an immediate objective but a long-term attitude of "looking for something."

      Why would he want to do that?? The corruption and the politicisation of science in India now would be enough to put anyone off!! He's got a much better quality of life in the west!! Besides, why would be want to breathe the toxically polluted air of Indian cities when he's living in the clean, quiet, and peaceful Cambridge??

    The Indian professors are old stones and huge ego . They will never allow others to touch. Indians should get out of the “ King and people” or aristocratic mindset
