  • Hydrangeas are beautiful plants that deliver color all season long, and there is such a wide variety of these too.
    Invincibelle Ruby is an award-winning variety with dark burgundy red flower buds that open to a two-toned combination of bright ruby red and silvery pink. The foliage is extra dark and stems are strong, making this new hydrangea a gem in any garden. It is a strong rebloomer that will be an excellent addition to any garden. Like other smooth hydrangeas, it flowers on new growth and so blooms every year without fail. It is very hardy too, appropriate for zones 3-8.

    Those are beautiful there. The lilac being pruned makes all the difference in the look of that bed. 💕

    Aaron your editing skills are very professional and I'm not sure you get the credit you deserve. I'm sure you do a lot behind the camera that we just don't see but it is appreciated.

    Wow! I'm loving how this flower bed is looking, pruning the lilac just made that area so amazing, and those Hydrangeas are the perfect color for that spot. I love watching these kinds of videos, I find them very relaxing. Once again I have so much inspiration and ideas for my own small yard, thank you for sharing Laura and Aaron. Thank you for a little Benjamin too, he is just the cutest!!

    pH is a big deal for a lot of reason, here we are low pH of 5.5, so we have lovely blueberries easy to grow. Here in S.C. zone 8a, I always put pellet & Epsom salt with compost in my shrub plantings, it is not just for tomatoes! Thank you for showing the fill bloom from buds to finish flower & the whole pH thing was helpful. As a child I put tea grounds on one side of a old fashion Hydrangea & a hand full of lime on the other & got blue & pink flower from it. It is common knowledge that new varieties
    do not change color, but it is great that you cover this for the new gardeners who may not know the whole story. I always tell people that I will repeat thing they know to make sure that they have all the facts & knowledge needed, just bare with me & use what you need. They tell me it is called mansplaining, but if you over fertilize to close to the trunk of a plant or do not water it in you could lose a $45.00 plant. I enjoy your way of teaching the art of gardening.

    I just planted a row too😉, can you mention or talk about putting Hydrangeas to bed for winter and what type and how much mulch to use? For us northern gardeners, it’s a very big concern ( zone 3/4), Thank you!

      Best to not prune many until spring, this page should help. And any good shredded bark mulch should work well, see what your local garden center recommends. www.provenwinners.com/Hydrangeas-Demystified

      Vanilla Strawberry is not a Proven Winners hydrangea, it is from a different company so to compare you would need to find that information online, sorry to say!

    I just bought some invincible spirit hydrangeas without realizing they like the sun. I live in a north-facing house in Calgary, Canada with a little bit of east exposure. Do you think they won't bloom if they only get sun from 1 pm to sunset?

    Do you have problems with caterpillars cocooning in your smooth hydrangeas? They glue the leaves at the tips together to form their cocoon and munch on the flower top. Any suggestions how to get rid of them?

    Love getting from you. Question: I bought 0.65 gallon last year April or May, and it didn’t bloom because I’m guessing it was still too small, but this year I’m hoping to see blooms. All I did so far was change the it to a 1 gal contain at the end of the summer. How long does will it take before blooms appear?

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube
      @ProvenWinnersYouTube  Před 3 lety +1

      In the early stages, a plant is developing a good root system before the growth above ground really happens. In year three you'll be surprised at how quickly your hydrangea grows. Enjoy!

    I would have thought that mine would have had some growth by now. But nothing at all. The white Annabel incrediball beside it is already two feet tall. I planted them both last October. Should I just be patient or switch it out ?

      It is hard to know without seeing a picture and knowing your zone and how much sun each plant is getting. Please reach out to our flowering shrub experts via this link, choose SHRUBS under category, and mention the type of plant you are asking about, planting details, zone, sun, etc, and you can also attach a photo of it. It does take three years for most shrubs to really shoot up, the first year is mainly spent on growth below the soil line, building a good root system to support the plant, www.provenwinners.com/feedback

      I thought it was dead again. So I pulled it up and put it back in the pot, and shoved it at the back of my shed.
      Just yesterday, I couldn’t believe it, again tiny little shoots coming up now. But it’s middle of June. The incrediball hydrangea is flying it. I think I might have planted it too deep ! I’m thrilled !

    I am disappointed that she doesn't say what soil she uses - I understand that the soil is the decision-maker for the color of the blooms but these sites are not saying anything about soil (other than organic bio-tone starter). On the "Hydrangea" site hundreds of people's advice varies. I purchased 2 Hydrangea, stuck them in a hole late late Fall, just before last Winter and they survived. NOW to find out what to do for them ???

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube
      @ProvenWinnersYouTube  Před 4 lety +1

      Veronica, Laura is simply planting these in the soil in her garden, not all hydrangeas are able to have their color altered. This page on our website will help, www.provenwinners.com/Hydrangeas-Demystified and if you have any other questions please address them to our feedback site, choose shrubs in the subject line, and a shrub expert will answer your question. Be sure to include information about where you live, the type of hydrangea you have, how much sun it receives, etc., here is a link, www.provenwinners.com/feedback

    I just ordered five of these and was planning on putting them in a part of my yard that gets afternoon evening sun, from about 2 pm until sunset, will that be enough sun? (along with five limelights) It will also be a dappled sun as I have a large evergreen that may cast a "dappley" shadow until about 4 pm. I am a zone 5, Eastern Ontario Canada

      Michelle -B I had this problem before and I figured out that my hydrangeas needed old wood to bloom. Do not cut back your hydrangeas in Fall... let them be until Spring then you can trim the dead wood only. If you’re not sure how to do that you can very likely find CZcams videos to instruct you. Lots of folks assume they have the kind of hydrangea that is easy to care for. Good luck and hope this helps! 🌸
