Love all your curriculum review videos. They are so helpful in prepping for the homeschool convention, such as planning any questions I may have or just which tables I want to hit. When cramming so much into just a couple days it really helps to narrow down the search ahead of time. Thanks for making all these videos!!!

I am going to a convention this weekend but this helps narrow down possibilities and make the experience less overwhelming. They mostly can do it independently and love the simple experiments. I absolutely love Rod and Staff for its simplistic yet in depth programs.

Next year we're using Elemental Science's lapbooking curriculum. It cost me $18.50 to receive the download for all the unit studies that we're doing next year.
We're doing the Lapbooking through Biology bundle which covers human anatomy, plants, animals, and habitats and the Lapbooking through Rocks and Fossils. It is a 4-day a week schedule, though you can adapt it to 2 days a week and the books that you get can either be procured from your library, or you can buy them yourself. I have found that the books are very inexpensive. They have a schedule for younger and older students.
My kids helped me pick this out this year and are super excited to do this. I highly recommend this to any family who's children are hands on learners as they will be building their own lapbooks.
The Hudsons are a great homeschooling family. I have had the pleasure of meeting them and spending time with them.

There are a number of good options presented, but getting additional STEM resources such as hiring a college student tutor for a local college or community college or getting your kid involved in 4H or citizen science/science rec classes administered through a university can be a great option. I have an MS in physics and was homeschooled and can say that that wow moment when you discover something new about the world can't be over estimated. I was involved in an land grant extension class in middle and high school and helped discover flying squirrels lived in our area. The discovery made the front page of the local paper and I credit it for starting me on my professional path (I've dabbled in many sciences - can't seem to make up my mind which field to stick with even after getting my degree).

Thanks so much for this review!! We have been leaning towards Science Shepard, so I was pleased that this was included. I'm wondering something though, because so many of the programs are recommended for a broad grade range. Obviously your not going to do the same course multiple times for multiple grades. So my question is which company offers more of a grade specific program that you can continue with for consecutive years. My concern is that you choose a great curriculum that covers a broad range of sciences, then you do a totally different program the next year that also covers a wide ranges of sciences. It seems like their is a probability of a lot of overlap of what the child will cover. Just wondering what you would recommend, and I hope this is making sense and I'm getting the point across. ?? 😬🙂

Thank you so much for this - well done!! As a homeschooling mother, I feel that I personally am at the kindergarten level, so this was very helpful. This past year was our first year homeschooling and I focused on English and Math first, and then tried to pinch hit on Science, Geography, and History. I used the Evan-Moor Science workbook for my 5th graders. The workbooks are good for what they are, but very brief lessons, broad and shallow. I had the sense I wasn't really doing a full curriculum but didn't know where to turn. Your presentation has given me several avenues to explore. Keep up the good work! One question: Is it necessary to buy an entire book/workbook/kit PER child for science? That can get spendy.

I used to do large curriculum comparisions years back when I started my first channel. Sadly i've used about 90% of these programs over the last 5 years. 😏
Not sure if this is helpful to anyone, but as a secular homeschooler who has a science background, I prefer to use Apologia Science, hands down. Usborne, Real Science 4 Kids, public school textbooks, Biology For the Grammar Stage, R.E.A.L Science Odyssey are good, but I fell in love with Apologia after trying it this year. I am as secular as secular can be when It comes to teaching my kids about science, and I am able to modify it without issues. We LOVE it.

I’m waffling between REAL science odyssey and apologia this year. Why would you choose Apologia over science odyssey?

Being as yhis will be my first year homeschooling I went with master books zoology course for my science. My duaghter who is very into mermaids and all wanted the swimming creatures of the 5th day from Appologia. I happily abliged jet since this is the girl who hates science. So we are going to give it a try if she decides she doesn't like it, Masterbooks is my plan B. I also have the Nature Journal and Mom's First H
Year Homechooling from Thinking Books. I was purchasing Dyslexia Games for my duaghter and those also looked very appleaing. I may go back and order the endangered animals you showed for her too. My daughter is a huge animal lover. It might be fun addition to the morning basket for her. Thanks bunches for this review. I have chosen Masterbooks for my curriculum this year thanks to you reviews.

Thank you for the excellent overview. This is very helpful, especially for new homeschoolers. However, I also have a child close to high school. Do you have any reviews for high school level curricula, especially science?

This will be our fourth year with God's Design science. I love how easy the lessons are with multiple ages, and the hands-on activities are usually pretty easy (otherwise I would skip them!) My sister switched from AOP's lifepacs to God's Design because of the multi-age component. Different lifepacs for all the different ages of her kids was getting to be too much for her growing family.

I was wondering if you could please do a video on American vs Canadian homeschool curriculum. I am interested in teaching homeschool as an option in Toronto. I know you live in BC but you are the only Canadian homeschool youtube channel I've found that goes into detail with these things.

Focus On also has upper elementary and middle school. We haven’t used them yet, but I’m leaning towards them for next year for my middle schooler. We love Berean Builders!

I saw that, I actually had mentioned it but was trying to keep each one to around 3 minutes and with showing both series, it was getting long, ha! But I'll probably do another one for middle school so I'll make sure to mention them then as well.

I feel like for the science video it would have been great to know which of these teach evolution and which teach creationism. Christian/neutral/non-Christian doesn’t really answer that question, and it’s a really really important one.

We use biology for the grammar stage and love it! You can often get recommended and required books at the library. Also, though it is not Christian, it is written by a Christian.
