The first episode in our multipart history series about the Red Dead franchise.
When it comes to Western video games, it’s hard to think of a title more iconic than Red Dead Redemption. While the genre has been around since time immemorial, with players able to brave the American frontier as early as the 1970s with The Oregon Trail, Rockstar San Diego’s romantic, yet unashamedly human open-world game resonated more strongly with players than anything that had been released before...
But prior to Red Dead Redemption becoming renowned the world over, it was preceded by a much more modest game. A light-hearted third-person shooter, filled with cookie-cutter heroes and Hollywood villains, which would have been even more absurd than it ended up being had Rockstar Games not intervened. A pre-nascent experience that failed to earn the same critical and commercial mindshare as its successor, but needed to happen so that its developer could become what it is today and Red Dead Redemption could eventually exist.
This is the history of Red Dead Revolver.

This is a re-upload of The History of Red Dead Revolver, which was originally posted on the 30th of September 2018 and had to be edited due to a song that was copyright claimed. The Red Dead Redemption video will follow tomorrow!
oh okay i thought i was loosing it
Really excited for Red Dead Redemption, thanks for all the great work.
Okay, I had strong feelings of deja vu.
I can relate. CZcams age restricted my Mortal Kombat content despite it being carefully edited to be age appropriate.
But im surprised you guys bothered to reupload. Was that video still generating consistent revenue?

Killzone Games???
Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who remembers red dead revolver was a thing.
I bought a brand new unopened copy from a secondhand store for 3$ it was meant to be lol
I loved that game.
@@Rambonii preserve it then buy it on ps4

John Marston: "That's what I wanted."
Red Harlow: "You ain't my problem..."
DUTCH: I HAVE A PLAN!
Uncle: *L U M B A G O*
Micah : R A T
Jhon marston : you eat babies
Also Marston: I went through 2 games dodging countless bullets and escaping near death a zillion times just to end up a lowly farmer
I feel like not a lot of people know about Red Dead Revolver’s existence simply due to it being overshadowed by its spiritual sequels.
Psychotic Trait I’ll be honest I never saw one ad or anything for red dead revolver the only one I remember seeing for the first time was red dead redemption
@Raven Douglas That's where I got it as well.
Arthur Morgan Same. Didn’t even know that Red Dead Revolver was a thing.
The soundtracks are still my favorites till this day!
Marshall B Or maybe I never gotten around to playing it because I was busy playing Halo CE, Halo 2, Dead or Alive, and many other games at the time.
I’m glad to say that I’ve played every Red Dead game since Revolver, it’s a great game that is very entertaining
There are two but okay
@@JDG-hq8gy 3, if you count Revolver
@@JDG-hq8gy the video is about red dead revolver so there are 3
J.D G 3 can count as every.
These games are only bound by the red dead title! They exist in the same universe but in different timelines! Redemption is one series and revolver is another series! ..... there I fixed it for you guys
God damn. I forgot how amazing the red dead revolver soundtrack was.
Real licensed music from real westerns that's why.
@@MrSpaghettiWestern19 Rockstar San Diego version is Freedom Fighters but in wild west, but Capcom/Angel Studios version was intended to be fast-paced like Taito's 10,00 Bullets, that will be Sin and Punishment but with free movement, but development troubles in March 2003 causing Capcom to leave Revolver and Take-Two Interactive acquired Angel Studios, and then Rockstar of Grand Theft Auto revived Revolver and re-tool the game to be slow-paced, standard TPS like Freedom Fighters, and released in May 2004.
Fun fact: the CZcamsr Mr. Nightmare uses one of red dead revolvers scary theme at the outro of his videos
I hope Rockstar considers doing a remake of RD Revolver.
Imagine playing as a young arthur in the epilogue
Or Red Dead Redemption.
Damn man I've been wanting a remake of red dead revolver! I hope it happens some day
Same!
Or a remaster of _Red Dead Redemption_ for PS4/PS5... or GTA 6... or a remake of _Vice City_ ...
it’s so great they have this video FULL of gameplay and relevant footage and NOT footage of the narrator speaking into the camera.
Red Dead Redemption was just a reimagining of Red Dead Revolver.
This channel is pure quality 👌🏻
That is so annoying it got copyright claimed! Excellent work guys! As I said in my Retrospective, Revolver is Underrated!
This was my first rockstar game ever. The red dead series will forever be a favorite of mine
YESSSS!!! I've been waiting for the reupload of your Red Dead series. Thanks for this!
Who else wants a red harlow dlc for rdr 2?
Gabriel Chastain I’d kill for that. We need more Harlow in this world.
Well uncle is red Harlow, so u wanna play as uncle?
@@yopper89
Uncle is not Red Harlow.
@@--------352 It's very serious
He would be like fifty something yrs old in the rdr2 epilogue
Red Dead Revolver is the only Red Dead game I've played so far, loved it.
Then your gonna pass out from amazement with Red Dead Redemption and possibly die and come back to life for Red Ded Redemption 2.
@@daamazinfatb0y752 can't wait 😁
Then you need to move out the cave bro
Oh man you don't know what you're missing.
I've only played Red dead redemption 1, which is easily one of my favourite games of all time. Beautiful story with amazing characters.
Thank you for reuploading the video GVMERS. I was looking for this video the whole time.
(9:10) It's amazing what the devs were able to do with the limited graphics tech at the time. Even with things like the hexagonal (I think) church bell, the environments they were able to craft were simply amazing. It just shows how a talented artist can transcend their limitations and create something beautiful. Sometimes that constraint results in thinking outside of the box and it shows in the finished product. Thank you for doing these amazing videos, GVMERS! :)
revolver walked so redemption could freakin SPRINT
K
I remember binging Revolver one night in 2004, I couldn't stop playing until I beat it. I couldn't believe it when they announced a sequel, so many people never played this title. And it is connocical, in Redemption 1, various people around the campfire tell the tale of Red Harlow, I hope RDR3 will cover young Dutch, Hosea, and Morgan, and maybe a cameo from Red Harlow.
Red Dead Revolver was my childhood , this video brings out so many memories .
Red Dead revolver was also my childhood, I have always loved this game.
One great game that is part of my childhood! Very good videos on this channel
I got red dead redemption for my 360 back when I was in third grade (my mom did not know what it was). I never played the story. I couldn’t even pass the first race against Bonnie. And I skipped all cutscenes. It was my favorite game that I had though, because it was just so iconic to me and my friends. My 360 broke when I was in sixth grade, but I wanted a PS4 anyway, because my cousin had one and I wanted to play gta with him. Eventually, the second redemption game came out in 2018, and I had to have it. I played a few missions and played some online, but I never really got that into it. Gta Online became my primary game of choice. A few weeks ago, I decided to give the story another shot. I fell in love. So much, I wanted to play the original redemption after I finished this one, but I had a PlayStation, and you can’t play red dead 1 on the PS4, so I bought a used Xbox 1 off of eBay, just to play it. During my play through of rdr2, I really looked into the history of the games, and actually started looking into red dead revolver. I bought an original Xbox copy of the game from GameStop, but I realized that you can’t play revolver on the Xbox 1, so I bought a used Xbox on eBay, just for that game. I never expected to love a series so much that I would buy two different consoles, just to play the past titles. Revolver sounds incredible, and I can’t wait to play it. I created an rdr online character meant to look like red, including his outfit and scorpion revolver.
I hear Oni mentioned so ultra rarely that hearing it's cancelled sequel mentioned is like seeing bigfoot
Red dead revolver was bad ass back in the day. 4 player Lan

Such an amazing piece of journalism. cant imagine the amount of youtube videos you watched to create this bad boy! Respect
you guys are amazing, thank you for your excellent video documentaries
Glad I stumbled across your channel through this video. It’s like watching discovery channel but instead it’s a documentary on video games.
You don't know how happy you made me to hear Outlaws get a mention. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but still that manages to top almost every Lucasarts Star Wars and non star wars game as my favorite Lucasarts title. I think it still holds up surprisingly well today because of its art style.
Excellent docu! :)
The nostalgia is strong in this one
That was an incredible time in gaming. Red Dead Revolver and the Warriors were 2 of my all time favorites. They really captured a certain look and feel like nothing else
We need a history of Max Payne!!
May Payne?
@@slapstickcomedy2.061 Sorry was a terrible misclick :\ Edited thanks!
@@markgal-gerlach1832 I was gonna say I didn't know Max Payne had a spin-off. But it was a spell error apparently.
@@markgal-gerlach1832 I didn't know max Payne had a sister name May.
I remember seeing smugglers run in pawnshops and wishing as a kid that I had a ps2 to play it. Now as an adult I own a super PC and every game system ever made and I still don't have that game on disk lol.
This game was so good man. I can’t tell how many times I beat it, or watching my dad beat it. RDR will live in with me forever.
No other video game opening intro song gives me goosebumps like the red dead revolver theme.
This channel produces some of the best videos, keep it up!
Love your content keep up the good work.
The History series is just great, so much quality
Perfect timing. I started playing RDR2 again yesterday.
*Me toO! ,.... except now,.. a year later...Great Memories past, present,...and soon future !...Love seeing all my fellow ''Red Dead Revolver partners''...Still felling '''Giddy'' over this Classic Spaghetti Western,.. Gem Of A.... Game !!!*
Still one of my favorite games I've ever played. Love this game.
Please do 'The History of GUN'.
Great game that was the red dead redemption of PS2.
Lynx939 THANK YOU
@@slapstickcomedy2.061 Shame it was so short. I felt I needed more.
@@Brunoki22 yeah but it was a decent Western game at least but it's a real shame that Neversoft isn't around anymore. They made the two Spider-Man games for the ps1 and i believe some Gameboy Advance titles too.
@@slapstickcomedy2.061 Neversoft made all the good Tony Hawk games, and if Activision didn't shut them down to make them work on Call of Duty, we would've gotten Gun 2. Damn you, Activision!
I was starting to think I hallucinated the existence of this title. Thanks for the reminder!
Thank you! great video
We NEED a true sequel to Revolver, honestly. I wanna see what happens to Red and gang after the game ended.
That would be awesome!! I'd love to see a sequel with current graphics--but keep the EXACT same controls as Red Dead Revolver! I think they are way more precise than Redemption!

My favorite game of all time so fun to fly through and replay!
I played Red Dead Revolver when it first came out and I played the game so many times. When Red Dead Redemption came out, I was excited and see if any of the characters of the first game would appear in it.
Loves playing red dead redemption and finding Easter eggs for the original. Really made them feel like the same world.
1:35 Remember when those visuals were breathtaking? We've come so far in so little time
I was pretty young when I got into video games and red dead revolver was an amazing experience for me. I remember being terrified during the mission in the mine lol. Great game would be cool to get a remaster or a real sequel to it.
To be fair we have rdr1 and 2
The mission that freaked me out was the ghost town lol.
Such an underrated game man, this was one of my favourites as a kid.
Awesome! Another Great Upload
Yes! I was wondering where these went!
The Nostalgia is strong with this one, I literally got goosebumbs from the intro song, good time. :')
How great is it that we all grew up in a time where we could watch rd revolver become what it is now
My friends and family loved this game we all thought it was the most loved game ever I was wrong but it's still one of my favorites
Keep up the work
Amazing quality, it's all right.
Thanks4This
if you re-upload, im gonna re-watch it
I only have PS2 back then and god I love the story of this game. It tells different point of view of Wild West from Indian, Englishman, and Red Harlow prespective. I never touch the first RDR but when I paly RDR2 on PC, I am suprised they didnt even mention Red Dead Revolver. Rockstar should never be shameful about this series.
we need an hd remake of this
I love red dead revolver! Favorite game growing up
Yay it's back!
Red Harlow may not be everyones favorite protagonist, but for me hes more "Memorable" protagonist than John and Arthur.
For me as well.
@A Channel For Absolutely No One In both Redemption 1&2 Red is mentioned in a campfire story, i would love to see them makes an Remastered or even a Sequel.
@Jalan Marshall And you got problem with someone else personal preference feller?
@@schibleh531 well there are the rumors and speculation that red is actually uncle. And some random encounters by campires actually have a character talk about red
@Jalan Marshall ill leave you to it feller, seems you have problem with your life, cheers
Just played through it on the ps2 and it blew my mind seeing the graphics of the same game in this video
If G4TV was still around I can see this channel being a Documentary Series on it. Such good content.
Thank god for Red Dead Revolver. Gave us arguably the best campaign series in gaming history! Can’t wait till rdr3 the story of jack marston or a young Arthur Morgan ;)
I want a jack Marston a ww1 soldier who gets found out that he killed agent Ross so the army hunts him down and so he has to form a mafia in chigago or new York NOW THAT'S A STORY
I remember those clowns where super annoying
We need this game's story remade into a new, modern game, much to the likes of Redemption, STAT!
I enjoyed this masterpiece when i was 7 years old .. i wish they remake it
I didn’t play red dead revolver because I never knew about it but I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the game Gun it was amazing man
Please make a documentary on chromehounds and it's fall and disappearance and the love of the community and how it was such a great community ❤️ please and thank you!
To think that Desperados 3 comes out soon,, oh boy
That intro music brought me straight back to Django unchained
4-player High Noon in Red Dead Revolver is one of the best examples in gaming on how to destroy friendships.
This is very interesting and Revolver actually looks pretty great, especially for its time (not visually, although the visuals are alright but the game generlly looks fun) however I will say the original vision for the game looked even better to me, shame we won't get our hands on it frankly.
It did look much smoother but that's because of all the camera work for the trailer footage I can't even imagine trying to fight against flying enemies! Haha my console probably wouldent have survived
Red dead revolver was my first ps2 game and I never regretted buying since.
It's bs you got copywrited over a song; Keep up this awsome channel!

Yeah it looks awesome. I love both Red Dead Redemption games. Maybe I'll try it out one of these days
This game and Gun were my childhood
Red dead revolver is one of my favorite games ever ....it was great imo
I loce the fact u got to play as others .
Anyone else still playing or remembering the old days
Red dead revolver was way ahead of it's time...
This game was damn scary as he'll back when I was a kid 0:19
Bought it the day it came out loved it
I had fun with this game as a kid
Deserves more views. No one knows about Revolver
IT'S BACK!
Revolver has an outstanding soundtrack.
History of manhunt would be cool to see.
For those who don't know--one of the best things about Red Dead Revolver is that every MP character has their own unique special atttack!! One player can attack you with poison bullets, slowing you down--another has a shotgun attack that lights you on fire--and one MP char even has TWO guns to attack you with! With over 30 MP characters to choose from, and up to 4 player couch competition--Red Dead Revolver has a bit more spice and variety to it's competitive modes! There's even a quick draw game mode where you have to gun down your opponent the fastest!! This game deserves a re-release!!
Now i want to play buggy boogie. That sounds awesome
oh man.
Did I love smuggler's run ^_^

Cant believe i played this game when i was 11 it came with my xbox i just remembered
I was so addicted to this game lol
outta the red dead series i allways loved red dead revolver the most due to being more of a spagheti western shooter and the forgotten game of the red dead series(seeing as alot of peeps i talk too only think red dead series includes red dead redemption 1 and 2 but when i mention revolver their look at me and go There was a game before redemption?) its nice seeing you guys make a video covering the history and The true start of the red dead series And one of my personal fav games to this day i wish it would get a remake or a hd release on ps4 switch and PC but alas i doubt rockstar cares enough about the orignal to do it but if they ever do i will buy it in a instant
I did not know that there was a game in the red dead trilogy before redemption until recently.
