What a beautiful model. And RIP Milo, a wonderful tribute for your best bud.
Thanks FivePoints, I feel like I'm living in a completely different world now. Glad you enjoyed the A-6E build!
Outstanding Hobbyboss A6. The Intruder is a beautiful looking aircraft no doubt. Nice tribute to end too. RIP Milo.
Hi yakidin63, I appreciate your comment and thoughts. Thanks for watching!
Nice model design but molding is not up to what one may expect:
there is no scissor on the nose UC strut;
the fit is not very good mostly in the nose and intakes areas.
the main wheel bays should have been better detailed
Definitely not a beginner's model
Very nicely done Intruder. It was an added bonus for you to add some historical references on the A-6 & mentioning of the movie by Stephen Coont’s book. My friend is in the development of R/C model kit of the A-6E with 12-foot w/s. All surface controls including slats, flaps, retracts & more fully operational.. Thank you. Job well done. Gary
Incredible build and video. To be honest, losing a pet just makes model building so much more difficult. I had to take a break for a few months. Once I was done grieving, it's go time. As a fan of your work I hope you are doing better each day.
Thanks much EDX2308, I appreciate the sentiments.
Great video and I am so sorry to hear about Milo...Prayers for you and Milo. I am looking forward to the next video...Thanks for sharing...
Thanks Mike, I appreciate the support. Best wishes!
Wow,very good. Love flight of the intruder. 😳AWESOME.He lives on in your memory of him.
Hi Larry, thanks for watching and for your thoughts on Milo. Everything is so different now without my little guy. I know you have experienced the same with Lumpy. 😢
@@MaxAfterburner she was my little buddy for over 13 years,it's terrible to lose someone who is really loyal and your real friend 💔 God bless there little souls.🙏
With the music I feel like I'm watching model building in the Blade Runner universe.... and I am thoroughly enjoying it
😉
Scraping instead of dry brushing...I like it. Something new. To me anyway. Thanks!
I really love how your model comes to life. You made the right choice about the flaps. Also your sound/music choice is great. Enjoyed every video. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Thanks so much Sander, I'm grateful for your comments and it inspires me to continue!
17 years - to stick around that long, he musta really loved you. Fair winds and clear skies, pupper!
Thanks Hawker Typhoon. Our father-and-son bond was so important to me. We shared everything together.
@@MaxAfterburner he's loitering up there like an AWACS - Not gone, merely out of sight.
time to fly together will come. But not just yet...
Just to add a bit to this, the turret under the nose is called a DRS, or Detection and Ranging Set. When the aircraft is sitting on the deck, unless they were doing maintenance on the system, the turret would have been rolled backward into stow to protect the three lenses on it. So technically, you should only see the lenses when the aircraft is in flight, or as stated, when maintenance is being done, and they are testing the system. Aside from that, this is a spectacular build, and looks just like the A-6E's that I always saw on the various carriers I was attached to!! Great job!
"We're Code 2 for DRS failing to stow at power down."
Another outstanding job! Sorry to hear about Milo, at least he lived to a ripe old age. Something special about pets, isn't there? They work their way into your heart.
Hi Stephen, thank you very much! I wish Milo could have lived forever.
Just for future knowledge...no Naval aircraft ejection seats were allowed to go with worn paint. The greatest enemy of an aircraft at sea (other than adversaries) was salt water corrosion, and the seats and cockpits were inspected daily and any worn areas were painted to cover them and keep them safe from any salt water effects. All bare, stainless components were lightly greased to aid in anti-corrosion treatments. Also, any worn or dirty parachute and seat belts were replaced to prevent deterioration and to keep the strength of the material. As an AME (Aviation Structural Mechanic, Environmental and Egress Equipment) for 3 1/2 years with VF-102, I dailyed numerous aircraft both on board ship and back at NAS Oceana, VA. No aircraft was allowed to launch until it was done, so there were many late nights in the hangar on shore waiting for other shops to finish so we could do our inspections, and we were the last to daily an aircraft on board before launch. If any work was done in the cockpit after our inspection, we had to re-do our inspection to insure the bird was safe for launch. I've watched many build videos and too often builders would add wear and grime to the seats. I hope this will help in future builds and for any other builders who have watched. The build overall was excellent with this minor error.
Thank you for your service Jim. I agree with you 100%. When a scale modeler does this it is to highlight raised areas of detail that would be lost to the naked eye. Gives it a "reflection" that sunlight would do on the actual aircraft if it were a full scale bird. Most modelers will dry brush these details yet I really like the technique this modeler did. It's merely to make the details pop out to a viewers eye and not so much to represent worn paint.
Lighten up dude ... it's just a plastic model. Enjoy life to the fullest and stop nitpicking!
Always loved the A-6. As a child, I lived near Whidbey Island NAS were most A-6's and EA-6B Prowlers were based and was their training center so it was a pretty busy place. I would sit there for hours watching them come and go. Awesome build. :)
Hi Ronnie, thanks for the stories. Gone, but not forgotten.
@@MaxAfterburner No worries. :) What made it the coolest was they actually had a runway that was set up like a carrier deck with arresting cables so they could actually perform cable arresting landings.
Dam it..I lost my Akita, Katsu, about two months ago..he was my guardian angel and my best bro..he was only seven. I've been in the suck ever since..I'll miss him every day. Great tribute to your pupper and nice job on the intruder
Thanks Greg, I totally understand. I hope the wonderful memories of Katsu sustain you. Peace.
Beautiful work and very touching tribute at the end for Milo. 😊👍
Thanks D, very appreciated.
I spent a number of years with Marine A-6E squadrons VMA (AW) 332 (Moonlighters) and VMA (AW) 224 Bengals as well as EA-6B squadron VMAQ-2.
Love these birds. Nothing we have had since can bomb like an Intruder. 332's motto was "Let us Intrude on your behalf".
Very nice, thanks for your service Andrew! 😃
Sorry to hear about your pup..... more like your child than just some animal. Great build by the way. When I worked in Afghanistan, I lived and worked near the airfiled... man the Intruder was the smallest plane on the field but it was the LOUDEST!! 😲
Thanks Erroll, I never saw an active A-6 in my military days, so that's an interesting observation on the noise.
Hello, this video is one the best video of full build I ever seen, because It has both didactic and historical value, congratulations!
Hi Enrico, thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the presentation. I try to add interesting facts and such to help entertain the viewer as well as having fun with the model build portions. 😃
Thunder claps... reminds me of my 3 years in Illinois. Great work!
Wonderful tribute to your pup!!! Nice job on the Intruder as well.
Hi arkbuilder 2012, thanks for your kind comments. 🙂
hurray! a new video! been loving your work so far and have used your techniques to further my modelling along. Keep up the amazing work
Thanks kommasar, I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos and finding something useful for your models!
So sorry to hear about Milo. We lost Gino last year. The nicest, well behaved dog you could meet and taken too soon. I understand the pain it causes.
Hi Harry, thanks. I'm sorry for your loss as well. We sure cherish the times and fun together, but boy, it is tough when we get to this point as you well know.
This was a pleasure to watch. Thanks for showing us your skills!!
Thanks sirira, very kind of you to say. 😊
I've just discovered your videos and find them absolutely fascinating, informative and entertaining. Thanks for bringing us this great content, and condolences for the loss of your friend Milo. I'm sure you will see him again one day. All dogs go to heaven.
Hi yamabushi170, thanks for your kindness and comments 🙂
@@MaxAfterburner *cough* Panavia Tornado GR4 *cough* ¬_¬
It is interesting to go back and watch some of your older videos,Tom. This would have to be one of your finest in my opinion. Just the whole balance between the colour toning and the level of weathering is so realistic.
Hi Stephen, I agree. It was one of those that worked out pretty well as far as the painting and detailing.
Overall I really enjoy your Channel on You Tube, and this is one of many videos that I've gone back and watched again. There a bit like watching a good Star Wars movie! I've been building models since I was10 years old and have built a number of kits over the last 30 years and entered models into IPMS model competitions. But I'm always really impressed with how you have streamlined the process of model building, not only do you start kits but you also finish them! I've adopted several of your weathering and masking techniques and look forward every new video you produce. Keep up the good work !!!
Hi Scott Glenn, thanks so much for the comments! I'm glad you've found some of the videos entertaining enough to watch more than once . Happy modelling! 😊
Great video and build! I'm so very sorry to hear about Milo. I too had a chihuahua mix that lived to be 18 years old. I recused him from the shelter when I was about 14 so we pretty much grew up together. Having a dog that long is a blessing. They become a huge part of your life. I too look forward to meeting my dear Zack again someday. Take care
So true Kevin. Best wishes to you and Zack.
I lost my small handful of semi-decent model builds from my adult life in basement flood about 10 years ago and haven't gone back to the hobby yet... But your videos are starting to give me the itch again! (In a perfect storm of bad luck, I had a bunch of stuff, including my few completed builds, just laying on the basement floor while I was doing a bunch of painting / flooring work on the main floor.... and boom... big thunderstorm... drain backup... 16 inches of water in the basement)
I've been binge watching your videos and I'm loving them. I will be 'that guy' who isn't a huge fan of the heavy accents on all the panel lines... just visually strikes me as a bunch of two inch gaps between all the panels if brought up to scale... but that is an age-old modeling argument that will never reach consensus... Although I do use similar shading methods on control surfaces, I like the effect there, as more prominent clearances exist on the aircraft. But personal preferences aside, this is gorgeous work. Just watching you attach all the fiddly bits started making my fingers feel arthritic! One of those unsung joys of modeling! heh
Thanks Jason, a lot of variety and improvements as to the materials, paints, etc that would surprise you. It might be also fun for you to experience those along with building again.
@@MaxAfterburner I noticed the Tamiya pre-mixed panel line wash is something that I hadn't seen before and that seems to work well. If you don't mind me asking, as I can't remember which video I saw it in.... but what type of airbrush do you use? I have an ancient siphon feed Paasche that I probably bought 25ish years ago still stashed away somewhere... but that thing was always a bit of a pain in the ass. Do you have a hobby/airbrush specific compressor as well? any recommendations there? Last kits I built I used the trusty and crusty old Craftsman pancake compressor... but would like something I could use in the house without waking up the wife and kids.
Went poking around my storage room just now and still have a few kits in waiting. Might get back into the swing with an old Monogram raised panel line F-16 that probably came from molds created in the 1970s. That should get me a good amount of putty and sanding practice. :)
I have an old style clunky Paasche compressor that has held up with all the noise too. I know there are much quieter ones on the market now, but I don't have the heart to retire this one until it gives out. I use an Iwata NEO as my airbrush.
Sir you are the world artist ever. thanks for all these details
Hi Ali, thank you so much 😀
You should be proud, a superb model. One we all dream we can achieve.
Hi Paul, much thanks to you for the kind and generous comments! 😄
MrD53
A magnificent build but I found your video most informative which in my opinion adds to the understanding of the aircraft and enhances the whole process of producing a faithful true and sympathetic rendition.
Please keep them coming as one coming back into the hobby after a long absence this is precisely the approach that I find most helpful.
Thanks MrD 53, I'm glad you enjoyed them 😃
Very nice. Your videos help relieve my anxiety and entertains me. Keep building.
Hi Jakob, thanks, I'm delighted you enjoyed it!
outstanding work! Sorry for your loss.
Hi DrummerDude, thanks 🙂
Fantastic build. RIP sweet Milo.
Thanks David. Milo's birthday and the date of his passing are both coming up soon.
how much i love naval aviation, i cant tell...amazing building!
Hi bigfefu, Fly Navy! 😉
GREAT WORK Max! i love your work on this A-6 and the rest of the navy planes you have built!!! please keep them coming!!.I'm so sorry for your loss Prayers for him
Thank you very much Gabriel 🙂
Very good vid, and very interesting additional historic inputs as always...something that nobody else does and which enriches our hobby. Thank you!
Hi migal ant, I'm glad you liked the extras in the video!
Amazing how realistic this looks. Great job
Hi Drew, thanks, glad you like the look of this Intruder A-6E.
Love your work!. You inspired me to make model after 20 years again. And as composer love the ambient music also ;)
Hi Julian, thanks! It was someone else who inspired me to start up again, so I'm glad to spread the fun. I'm also glad you liked the music, I wrestle with finding and picking tracks!
In my old man's house, there are a few huge boxes filled with models me and my brother used to put together back in the 90s. These videos made me feel like picking them up and reviving them all. The A6 is also there.
Subscribed. RIP Milo
Hi Alex The Photographer, thanks for the interesting boyhood story. I hope you have fun and many great memories revived!
@@MaxAfterburner I surely hope so, in a near future. Your Channel has become my new favorite lunch time must-watch. Cheers Max!
Thanks very much for sharing this build. Our sympathy to you in the passing of Milo. We recently felt the same pain with the loss of our rescued family pet.
Thanks mgpetruby, I'm sorry for your loss as well. I guess we need to focus as best we can on all the love, joy and fun we had with them when they were here.
Beaut job......the build, painting and weathering. Really enjoyed the whole process including the information and your commentary......a pleasure to watch. Vale, Milo.....sorry to hear about the loss of your best friend.
Thank you Robert
That is an awesome Intruder, well done! Sad to hear about Milo, it is never easy when they leave us. My cat Cooper passed away in April and how I miss the little bugger. God speed Milo and be in peace.
Thanks JS Idaho, and I'm sorry to hear about your Cooper. Our pets are so important.
Stunning work again my friend. I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. Milo was very lucky to have such a great father and I have no doubt you gave him an amazing life.
Thank you Isaac, he was so amazing.
I love your vids. I really enjoy all the facts and info you scroll across the screen.
Hi Jonathan, so glad you like the extra features! 😃
Great build and superb results. Amazing.
Hi cygnusx10, thanks so very much!
Crimson_Ghost said it the best. Thank you for sharing with us all. Bless you and your little buddy Milo.
Thanks Mack Daddy 🐕
Very nice! I’ve built this kit and you make it look a LOT easier to get a great looking model than it actually is. Loved it!
Thanks Bill, you know how tough this one was by your own personal experience!
Your builds are just amazing!
Hi Fish Barbeque, thanks! I thought the "dirty look" came out well on this one. 😉
Absolutely stunning rendition of the beautiful A-6E! I just finished the third book in the Jake Grafton series, Final Flight, by Stephen Coonts. Great book series. Lastly, my condolences for Milo. It’s amazing how much love we have for our pets and how heart wrenching it is when we loose them. Thank you for sharing your wonderful builds with us!
Hi Crimson_Ghost, thank you! I've known about the Grafton series for sometime, but I need to take your recommendation and finally read them.
My father's side of the family has a strong dog-lover's genetic code implanted in us. Milo was my own first dog and my DNA went full tilt for him.
Ah, Final Flight! I thought that author's name sounded familiar. Enjoyed that book many years ago, either late 80s or early 90s.
It’s not a long time that I’m following you. And I really like your videos. Particularly your explanation and history of itch build. 👍👍👍👍
Hi Nino Nino, thanks! I'm grateful for your positive feedback and happy you're enjoying my model corner!
You are a hell of a model.builder man. I've been watching you and Scale-a-ton. I want to get back into it, but with both of your attention to detail styles. Awesome stuff 👍
Thanks Randy, I'm glad you're enjoying the videos 😃. Scale-a-Ton is one of the very best on CZcams imo.
Great videos as always you truly are a good Craftsman. Sorry to hear about the loss of Milo.
Thanks very much Andy! I'm very grateful for all the kind messages for Milo. It's been very nice that viewers would take the time to send condolences.
First time I've seen one of your videos. Love the way you add the trivia facts throughout the video. Subscribed!
Thanks Kevin, glad to have you aboard!
Hi buddy , fantastic work again, you are one of the best wingy thing modeller out there. I'm sorry about Milo , we went through the same last year but with two of ours it's horrible like losing, well it is losing a family member. If I can do anything , anything at all then shout. Stay safe brother
Thanks Mate, I've lost 3 of my kids in the last 22 months. Milo's passing was particularly devastating as he was my "first born" and my favorite. You're so right, they ARE FAMILY!
Wow ! beautiful piece ! nice build ! thank you ! GO NAVY !
Thanks Alexander 😃
Thanks for another great upload. Excellent work and research on the aircraft and available version builds.... and very sorry for your loss... Milo had to be your best mate.
Hi Eustace, Milo was the best! I'm thrilled you enjoyed this latest video, thanks for watching!
Beautiful model! It's a work of art for sure!!
Thanks dezinguy 1971! It's dirty, grimy and "used"-- my favorite look for a military jet model. 😉
Your videos are so relaxing. I wanna get into plastic models again but I don't mix well with plastic. I just don't have the patience.
Hi Paul, me neither sometimes 😉. Thanks for your support!
Another fabulous looking build mate. I love the final weathered look that you achieved. Great job!
Thanks James C, hope you're doing fantastic!
I was with VMA(AW)224 and VMA(AW)533 Marine A6E all weather attack squadrons in the late 80's to early 90's. You did an outstanding job on this A6E build! That's exactly how those dirty pigs looked. Took me back to the flight deck of the JFK aircraft carrier (CV67). Ah good times, great aircraft!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for your service, Nunya Business! 😊
Glad you shared this video... Loved it....
Hi TowMaters, happy you liked this one. Thanks for your support!
Really enjoyed this. I served with Marine A-6 E squadron VMA (AW) 332 in the states and forward deployed. Also supported VMAQ-2 (the EA 6 B's in your video).
Thanks
That's fantastic Andrew! Thanks for your service, sir.
My favorite was The A6e Intruder so thanks for the video And I really like it
Glad you enjoyed it Guian 😊
I was looking for inspiration for my next build, and boy did I find it! Fantastic video, loads of very interesting information regarding the jet and some great techniques especially the cockpit instruments. I have ordered the Tamiya panel liner. Thank you for posting the video, it is very very helpful! I found the soundtracks used very pleasant too.
Hi Kevin, so very happy that you enjoyed many aspects of the overall video. I wish you great success on all of your projects! 😄
What to do on a rainy day? Build an A-6E Intruder. I remember those well from the US Navy. Great video build.
Thanks radioactivelarry 😀
Excellent work!
Hello and thanks 🙂
Good instructive video. Beautiful model.
Fantastic "Grime Layer" with the wash layers. I haven't built models in years but did so with my buddies as a teen in the 90s and I could never quite get the grimey ones to come out the way I wanted them. My buddy who went to set school of course made the most beautiful models as well a figures for table top games. Just found this channel and am loving taking a trip down nostalgia lane!
Hi Maekar I Targaryen, glad you enjoyed it and that it brought back some great memories for you!
@@MaxAfterburner Have you ever done any miniatures painting? Like Napoleoic War scenes or even for table top gaming like Warhammer? I would love to see you take a crack at something like that!
Sorry about Milo. Thanks for the videos, I really like how you have some facts and history while showing the great build, well done! Best video yet!
Thanks Ryan, I'm grateful for your inputs.
Fantastic tip regarding sanding/scraping paint off the instrument panels to highlight their details. Much easier and more effective than trying to brush paint them.
Thanks Cookeh, some of the simplest techniques can yield some nice results!
Fantastic job!!!
Thank you Ramon!
Very nice work on a kit with several "challenges".
Thanks Gary, not as fun as I thought it was going to be. 😏
As usual, beautiful job.
Hi Rick, thanks so very much for the kind comments! As an amateur I was especially pleased at the exterior look on this A-6E. It came out better than I thought it would. 🧐
Man that turned out really really nice. 10+. !!!!
Hi Dog Lover112233, thanks much, I'm very glad you liked it! 😄
That's a great looking model! I'm sorry to hear of your loss, Milo was clearly a very loved little man.
Thanks Justyn. Milo was the greatest thing to ever happen in my life. His passing has been truly devastating to me.
Great kit love the A6 intruder
Hi vaderboy121 😀
fantastic work useful info about the kit...Long live Milo and my sympathies for your loss.
Hi James, thanks, much appreciated for my Milo and the video comments 🙂
Great work! I really like intruder. Good to see nice video.
Hi JR Kim, the A-6 certainly seems to be a popular subject. I'm pleased this one is getting a nice reception!
Never ceases to amaze me how easy you make painting the tyres look! The only way I can do it is, knocking the paint back with enough thinner that capillary action then wicks it around the hub for me!
Hi stuco81, it sure isn't easy as you know! I got lucky this time! 😉
Excellent work my friend. Congratulations.
Hi, cesarrodriguezcastaneda494, thanks and cheers! 🙂
Great job. I worked on the real thing many years ago with VA 115 on the USS Midway and VA 196 on the USS Constellation. I don't want to be too critical but the only way to mount a mark 81 on the front inside station of the inboard pylon is to remove the forward landing gear door which would give a total bomb complement of 30. The most I ever saw was 28 and the pilot was glad it was a long runway. Thanks for doing this old jet properly.
Thanks JD 🙂
My favorite plane.
Like side by side aircrew positions.
Excellent video Max. Very nice build mate
Thanks Armour Empire, I appreciate that! I think armor is actually the best genre for model building. It has so much range and versatility. I'm in awe of guys like you who take it up.
Welcome back!! I’ve missed your videos!
Thanks Pranay, hope it wasn't too long for you! 😎
One of my favorite aircraft, I grew up at MCAS Cherry Point the A-6 and EA-6B flew over my house almost every day!
✈️✈️✈️✈️!
Darrin that is awesome. I too spent time at Cherry Point when I was young. My step father was an EA-6B pilot. Loved those jets ever since!
Mack Daddy that’s awesome man my dad was in many Squadrons at cherry point. He retired the base SgtMaj . Our neighbor was a A-6 pilot that went on to fly with the Blue Angels.
Great job on the model. It turned out really well.
Hi mrblujet, thank you so much 😀
I have always loved the shape of this plane , dispite what others say , the wings are lovely and I believe , used as a basis for the Tomcat wing .( Same shape if you look .) another great job Max . Wales UK. ( and yes , speedbrakes look a little close to jet efflux when open ???)
I love your builds and just watching all the way through is a pleasure, I would like to see you build the F86 Saber or the mig 15
Thanks Gilan Gaming! Those are classics worth considering!
Amazing skill thanks for posting
Hi Vinny, thanks! 😃
Aslo as a PC, we put the shoulder harness buckles on top of the parachute to make it easier for the pilot to get in. We hooked up some of their buckles for them.
Stunning!
