- This is the 1989 rugby league tour match between the Kangaroos and Auckland, staged at Carlaw Park, Auckland, between the first and second Tests, on July 12. Australia were fresh off a first Test victory, confident in that they hadn't lost a non-Test tour match since 1980. Auckland were coming off their first loss of the representative season to the Rest of New Zealand but were hopeful following their victory over Great Britain the previous year, though few others gave them a chance against the powerful Australians.

Knock ons, off sides, no one is square, punches thrown in front of the ref, obstruction galore, cheap shot city. What a wonderful game.
You wouldn’t last a second on that field quiet in the cheap seats 🤫
Boy, you come to Auckland central to play rugby league, leave your pussy excuses in aussie. if you can't handle real league, fuk off.
back when Auckland Rugby League meant something. a team of local club players relished at the chance to match it against a great touring Kangaroo side. memorable win.
Was there watching this game was awesome....and going to carlaw on Sunday's back then
If only Carlaw Park was the Warriors home since their inception.
Yep a real sad lose. Crowd right on the sideline. Atmosphere. And close to downtown for after match drinks ). Same in soccer, they lost Newmarket park. Another great ground. Really they should've at least shared one of those stadium. But they lost both. One to greed and the other to Nature ) czcams.com/video/B-xD6ULvd5Q/video.html
A Couple of PANAMA ROAD connections in this Auckland Team.
The DUKE of WELLINGTON was ROCKING that night... Mon./ Tues.??
Auckland had a Awesome WIN record against TOURING TEAMS in those days.
THIS Auckland Team made for OVER HALF of 89 Kiwis
if only the spirit of the Old Auckland team RL team and Carlaw Park was in the Warriors sometimes. the Warriors would be called the Auckland Lions
awesome game great result carlaw was the home of rugby league when league was great now we have the warriors
@M maybe.
But its boring as fuck
Where's the coverage of the U13 Open curtain-raiser between Te Atatu and Pt Chev??!!!! I played in it for Tat :) It featured a couple of kids called Robbie Paul for Tat and Stacey Jones (who scored all Pt Chev's points). Te Atatu 14 Pt Chev 12 :)
Sharne played too, RIP brother
RIP Nev Ramsay Arohanui big brother
Brilliant good to see Neville Ramsey a legend :) Paul
@M can you just bloody stop please, enough now. It's damn well over.
@M your comments are almost as boring as a soccer match
Ah yes, Carlaw Park. For years us Aussies were convinced that if we had a big game to play there and it didn't rain, the ground staff would turn the water on anyway! None of the Oz players would have any excuses for that loss though. They were disorganised and some of them seemed disinterested, especially in the forwards. To my mind the only players to manage to get into a proper defensive pattern were Shearer and O'Connor, waiting for the Auckland kickers - everyone else was out to lunch! Auckland won for the exact same reason that Australia lost - they deserved to!
@JG-bw6luwho cares. Both have their place soccer evangelist.
I’ve played and watch both.
Thank God for City, restoring some pride to Manchester.
Ha ha Billy Shimpton man he had some shockers the Aussies appealing a few penalty's I think they gave up in the end poor buggers,That was a very good Auckland side though champion back 3 in the scrum too and George Mann led the way the Mangere east legend...R.I.P Mike Thompson,Peter Jackson,Carlaw park

Is this where they got the idea of the original warriors colours. So random, could you imagine a match like this today.
Blue and white is Auckland colours in all \ most sports for over 100 years.
Playes are old 1989 2000 get sume play and play the game...
Marty Bella should not pick fights, seriously he is the worst fighter ever. 😁
was there that (and later at station hotel top floor where auck and aussie ) big night .. and when beat gt britian ... was standing by fence giving duck arse davies (ex rugby player gt britian ) shit al night ... we got him right upset ...
Ref was terrible
I believe the Aussie coach called him a home town tommy, but looked fair and balanced to me, as a Auckland fan. This Auckland team played a hell of lot better than the Kiwis, that year.
Boo ya....👻
Pack of ferrals
Yeee boi
Aust 5 tries to 4 ..gotta kick them goals
