My oldest son is in his early 20's and he has type 1 diabetes. But thank God for this piece of article czcams.com/users/postUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i At first he thought he had the flu and was lying down on the bed for three days until his sister took him to the hospital. They took his blood and it was 600. What I do not understand is how he could have gotten it, since no one in the family has it. But he is winning the battle now. This is good stuff.

If a person is willing to commit to a healthy diet and positive lifestyle, it significantly reduces the possibility of becoming a diabetic, as long as there is not an actual gene that has been compromised in the person's DNA as a result of inheritance.
The first thing to be aware of is that the national nutrition guidelines in the USA, which are adapted to varying degrees by other countries, are not healthy. They are based on bad science from the 1950s-1970s that has repeatedly been refuted over the last 50 years.
The second thing that is a challenge in committing to a healthy diet is that the person has to break addiction to processed packaged foods, fast foods, take away foods, and excess servings of even healthy foods. The food processing industry has consciously and deliberately modified processed foods, especially snacks, desserts, and beverages, to be addictive. The first step for someone who is regularly eating packaged processed foods and fast foods, and convenience store takeaways is to prepare themselves to fight what is in effect an addiction.
Along with the diet change, it requires exercise, good sleep practices, and stopping smoking.
Sadly, much of the population seems unable or unwilling to take on the hard, long process of making a change. Among those who are poor, the food assistance system in the USA is not designed to support them in making diet changes. The food assistance system is not designed to provide nutritionally healthy food. It is designed to provide the maximum number of calories at the lowest possible cost. That means mostly ultra processed packaged foods, which means excess sugars and carbohydrates, which means a path to obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

Living with diabetes is different for everybody. As a Type 2, I am SICK of the amounts of medications I am on. I have recently adopted Intermittent Fasting and am cutting down on sugars and the portion sizes of my meals [only two a day and NO snacks]. I have lost about 10 lbs. so far and will keep on doing this as a permanent change of lifestyle. I am finding that this is not a hardship for me. My body certainly is showing the results too.
My advice to fellow diabetics is this- Don't let ANYBODY tell you that you can't try to reverse this crap. You can improve your condition and your numbers. People who degrade and demean your efforts need to be tossed out of your life. Especially naysayer doctors. If they are not wanting you to ever regain your health then drop them ASAP! Find a doctor and a team that wants you to kick this crap! Lastly, steer clear of the ADA. They are financed by Big Pharma and their greed wants to keep you sick and dependent.
Just say ENOUGH! Take back control of your life! :)

Doctors and medical associations have been telling patients to cut down (or better, eliminate) sugar consumption SINCE DAY ONE and it's the single most effective diet change that helps to manage diabetes. The stupid/stubborn/ignorant people never listened. One day they suddenly decided to to do it because they watched some health guru video on youtube and they immediately started seeing the positive effects (what a surprise). Yet, the doctors are still called naysayers and quacks. LOL... Well, the world is overpopulated anyway, by low IQ organisms.

Going by my glucose meter, I'm averaging around 4.8. No medications. I've also been overly sedentary. I eat 1-2 meals a day. No snacks. I've also lost about 35lbs. There's so many benefits, especially being able to get a full night's sleep. I don't miss any of the old things I used to eat. The only thing I miss a little is the convienence. OK , low carb, but you need to get your energy from somewhere other than just air. I believe eating meat all the time is not good and if you eat enough vegetables to get the energy you need , it seems you are back to square one. Maybe , just limiting good solid carbs at any one time may be a better choice. When I eat a biscuit in the morning, I take about 2 hours to eat the whole thing between doing other activities and that momentum seems to allow my body anyway to have the time to deal with it. ( and no , I don't get super hungry when doing this ) ( use caution if taking medications if you want to try that , I have a CGM and can monitor in real time ) I remember eating 3 or 4 pancakes at one time when younger and would always be tired about 30 minutes after eating.

Carbs is not the problem. Carbs are energy humans need carbs! The problem begins with the type of carbs.
Diabetes and obesity is caused by insulin resistance which is the build up of fats in cells that are not meant to store it. This causes insulin levels to rise and glucose levels in the blood to rise because it cannot enter into the cells.

That is factually not correct, dietary fiber is vital to the gut microbiome and sustaining longevity. Sugar is highly processed and like meat and dairy (highly processed). plenty of fat and protein is easily obtained through fruits, vegetables, and legumes.
Do not kid yourself meat consumption is not sustainable, healthy for the planet, nor the for the people. The leading cause of disease in every country on earth. A petri dish of a disaster coming. Antibiotic resistance anyone? Why do we expend nearly all antibiotics on earth into Animal Agriculture? To prevent more disease spread!!! You have been lied to about proteins. Animal Agriculture is the most destructive industry on earth and the most inefficient way to a protein man has ever processed. Fact is diets heavy in beans are highly associated with longevity.
Get educated about carbs because like so many your interchanging whole real complex carbohydrates with sugars? Athletes carb load before major events (not meat load) plenty of new scientific evidence and past evidence that animal consumption is causing obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Check into the postprandial effects of your diet. Saturated fats plug cells, arteries, and digestion. I eat loads of carbs daily without issues and my cells are wide open it is obvious in the gym or steam room compared to others. Several pieces of fruit, beans, and potatoes. Potatoes are considered the highest satiety food humans consume.

What I don't understand is why the medical profession focuses on identifying the existence of a medical problem and not on the precursor of the medical problem. For diabetes, my understanding is that changes in insulin sensitivity and insulin resistance starts years before blood glucose levels reach points where they are a concern. But the standard testing for physical exams is a test for blood glucose level, not for insulin resistance.
My understanding is that there are more doctors who are starting to think that there is no pre-diabetes. There is diabetes or there is no diabetes. By the time a person is tested as being pre-diabetic, insulin resistance is already established.

You're right. I've never understood why they don't test for insulin resistance in Australia. Drinking large amounts of concentrated glucose on an empty fasting stomach is enough to send anyones sugars into orbit.

Every food has a glycemic index which lets you know how fast a food will increase the level of glucose in the blood. Aim for low glycemic foods. I always struggled to remain at a healthy weight but once I learned about glycemic index and picked low glycemic index foods, I have no problem maintaining a BMI of about 20-22, which is where it is best for me (I am on the smaller side). This data should be on food labels (that will never happen). The info is widely available on the Internet.

I was diagnosed 9 years ago, my blood glucose level was 6.3 when diagnosed, had none of the symptoms. I had a job where I had to sit at the computer for 9.5 hours with only a lunch break. There wasn't much time to get sufficient exercise between work. 4 out of 5 of us in my dept were diabetics. I didn't think I was eating badly. For many years I lived with a trained dietitian whom I'd consult about my food habits. I followed that damn food pyramid. As a child growing up, my mom would tell us to eat a bowl of cereal (usually without milk since we never had enough)--not sugary cereal, things like shredded wheat and puffed wheat. In college, I had a horrible diet, grabbed a Snickers bar and milkshake as I zoomed through the school's cafe on my way to yet another class. But it wasn't until I was in my mid 50s that my body stopped being able to handle carbs--my doctor never mentioned diabetes, not even pre-diabetes, just that I was gaining weight but I was going through menopause and my thyroid gland was not producing enough juice. My paternal grandmother died from complications after surgery due to diabetes (way back in the 40s). My dad had diabetes but controlled in with food, no meds. My older brother was an insulin-dependent diabetes and died 3 years ago from complications. My sister is pre-. When I was diagnosed, I took a 2 day diabetes class to learn what it is, how to do the home testing, what to eat and what not. It was an excellent class. However, the diabetic nurse and diabetic dietitian teaching the class took out blood number and gave each of us a breakdown of about how many carbs we could eat per day, even into what was the suggested maximum per meal & snack. I followed that and was still gaining weight, about 10 pounds per year. I was walking when I could. When I retired 4 years ago, I walked even more since I had the time but that didn't seem to change my glucose levels (just was nice to be out and about). I was eating what was recommended, cut way down on my starchy carbs and still I was gaining weight. Then last year I decided to go on a keto diet, I had to do something or I would need to start using insulin and was not what I wanted. I hadn't had such a bad diet to begin with, never ate fast food, ate as little processed food as possible, ate only a limited amount of starchy foods--bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, other grains, root vegs, fruit, and I hadn't even liked sugar for several decades. I finally started to lose some weight, my blood glucose went down to below where it was when I was first diagnosed but it was still above 99mg. I continue to eat keto seriously, none of that "I cheated" or "fell off the wagon"--even during this Covid sheltering. I eat mainly meat/fish and vegetables, almost always a salad of some kind (not potato) along with whatever cooked veg, and generally a set of eggs after waking and then 1 meal for dinner. It has been almost a year now and I have plateaued, haven't lost any weight in hte last 6 months, my glucose levels haven't gone down any further, but at last I've been able to keep my weight and glucose levels stable. I occasionally wish I could grab a pizza like everyone else, eat desserts, have ice cream on a hot day, all those things other people take for granted. But I saw my brother die from out of control diabetes--he had sores on his legs oozed and wouldn't heal, he could hardly stand on his own, eventually collapsed and was hospitalized where he had a stroke on his right side, his eyes couldn't stand light, lost the ability to talk although he may have been able to understand what he heard and then he had a massive heart attack and died. I've had only 1 incidence of too low glucose (hypoglycemia) when I had food poisoning and didn't eat for 5 days, my body just completely voided--I was mainly groaning in bed between toilet bouts and about day 3 or 4 I desperately wanted something sweet, don't keep anything sweet in my home but luckly I found a small can of fruit cocktail in my emergency supplies and drank the juice in the can, then ate some peanut butter and some other stuff before goign back to bed. On a keto diet, I am very careful about what my body tells me I need. Being in ketosis is the aim of a keto diet because you take in carbs only through the vegetables you eat (remember, no corn, no potatoes, no grains, no rice, no sugar) your body is forced to burn your stored fat to run on--but as a diabetic II have to be careful to be always aware of what my body is feeling or I could go into a faint or coma--my body mismanages carbs. I do believe diabetes isn't curable; if you go back to what you used to do/eat, you'll be diabetic again; you have to change your whole life style and continue to check your blood. I'm never going to eat pizza every week, can't have a bowl of rice with Asian food. I'll never be able to have a bowl of pasta and sauce or eat dessert after dinner every night. I will always remind myself that I AM diabetic so I eat and live so my glucose stays low enough. To let myself think "I'm cured" would make me think I could go back to eating like everyone else which I can never do; my body has already shown me that it can't handle an American food life. Some people who still have a good metabolism, as that one woman who thinks she no longer is diabetic, might be able to reverse it but they are still going to be diabetic for the rest of their lives--their bodies have proved that things have gone wrong (once) already if they aren't careful about their life style. Unlike, in her lame comparison, cancer which she compared it to, at least with cancer they can treat it with chemo/radiation/surgery and remove the cancer they see and if they get it all and you remain clear for a number of years, you can hope you're cancer free after that but you can't do that with diabetes. You may be able to reduce your risk for many of the diabetes complications by changing your life style but if you stop doing that, you'll go right back to having high blood glucose levels. That's the difference. There is no "cure" for diabetes at this point in time and anyone who tells you so is either lying or underinformed, or living in some fantasy world.

I weighed 206 lbs. my pain and inflammation was almost debilitating. I was placed on diclofenac and cortisone for the joint inflammation. I discovered intermittent fasting and OMAD, one meal a day on CZcams. I started eating once a day between 4 pm and 8 pm, cut back carbohydrate and stopped alcohol completely. Today May 15, 2020 my weight is 183 lbs, my A1C was 6.4, pulse 58 and blood pressure 123/77. My doctor cut my atenolol in half and said if I can lower my A1C a little more and keep it stable he would consider cutting that back or out. I no longer take cortisone or diclofenac. I feel fantastic and although I cheat at times I can easily eat once a day effortlessly. Diabetes is food poisoning. Research Dr Fung and OMAD.

To date there are none. doesn't that concern you? You are worried about eating an orange, but have no problem using oil... the most refined food on the planet. ALL large successful long lived populations on the planet eat between 60 and 80 percent of their calories from whole starches with little to no added fat. We are all glucose burning organisms, there are no exceptions. What low carb folks are suggesting is nature or God made a mistake in the design and they are smarter so they will get it right. i can prove this very easily. We can live with zero ketones in our bloodstream, if i was able to get glucose out of your bloodstream you would die before your glucose got to zero.... It's ridiculous to think that a person with degrees in Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Computer Science is still getting it wrong. I rode my bike 5 miles to work every day and 10 miles home, and I was stopped on the street by a stranger saying you are doing the right thing, but you gotta loose that gut, so only eat cucumbers and watermelon! Well I tried that, guess what I didn't loose my gut. Now I walk my dogs two miles twice a day and still no weight lose. Now that I have stumbled onto the carnivore diet I am finally loosing weight. But even with that I have to be very strict, only meat, no plants, ever! Plants bring nothing to the table but sugar and I can't eat another one ever again. People talk about "glucose spikes", but guess what diabetics don't get? That's right, glucose spikes. Because when you are diabetic and eat sugar, your blood sugar just goes up and never comes down, until the kidneys have to filter it out and that takes a lot of water and bathroom breaks.

I had lived all my life in south Georgia until ten years ago when I moved to North Carolina. I had been to doctors frequently due to one thing or another and never once did my so called regular doctor(s) say anything to me about diabetes. I learned 5 years ago while being prepped for back surgery that I was a diabetic. My pre-op blood work done the day before showed that my glucose was over 800 mg/dl and during my prepping for surgery the nurse came rushing in to check my sugar and it read High, which mean't according to her that their meters said high only if it was over 700. They gave IV and subQ insulin immediately and before I left the hospital 3 days later I had a glucose monitor and supplies and a prescription for 2 diabetic medications and was told to follow up with my regular doctor. I did and the only thing he said was, "Hmmmm." I think that the reason why people don't know they have diabetes is that some doctors don't care or won't say anything because if a person becomes a diabetic then thats more money for them. I now have to see the doctor every 3 months, get my blood drawn and get my prescriptions. Money is the culprit.

Do you have any information or advice about LADA (Latent Autoimmune Diabetes of Adults)? I was diagnosed with diabetes in my fifties and my doctor eventually decided, due to the way I responded (or didn't) to treatment, that I had LADA. I have several other autoimmune disorders, including Crohn's Disease, alopecia, and asthma. I'd like to know if I need to manage my diabetes more like Type I or Type II. By the way, I've had a pretty dramatic experience with ketoacidosis, when an abscess caused by my Crohn's Disease sent my blood sugar through the roof. I ended up being airlifted to the nearest city and spending nearly two weeks in the hospital. Not my idea of a vacation.

Regarding Type 2 diabetes and genetics, how much of it is due to learned bad behavior passed down throughout generations? Grandparents fed parents a terrible diet and encouraged inactive lifestyle, and then your parents do the same to you. So it's more about generational behavior than any actual true gene factors.

When you have prediabetes you already have a lot of damage in your body. The insulin resistance can and should be caught earlier. Once you passed your BMI to be not in the healthy range, test your fasting insulin and glucose, chanfr your diet to low GI diet( and low fat trans) and try not to pass this BMI healthy range add some exercise.

To all those railing against carbs, study after study reveals that people in the blue zones have diets with lots of COMPLEX carbs. There's your key. What they DON'T eat at all is ultra-processed rubbish. Most of them have either an occasional or a minimal daily alcoholic drink, and they eat lots of fruit and veg. The Buettner study revealed that "65% of dietary intake in blue zones came from complex carbohydrates, and these foods are the five pillars of a longevity diet on four continents: whole grains like corn, rice and oats (complex carb), greens, tubers including potatoes and yams (complex carb), nuts, and beans (complex carb)."

glorianne papolis if you over work your tendons to a point they hurt you will stop and rest until they are no longer inflamed and no longer hurt and they are usable again. Eating sugar all day will not cause the hurt that you feel in your tendons, you cannot immediately feel the pain and so rest from the sugar intake. You cannot feel the hurt that sugar causes it’s a very slow build up process and creates complications years later. Did you not watch the whole documentary, they talk about pre diabetes.
