  • On day 72 I climbed 15 miles to reach the last of the Idaho passes, up to the ridge of the Hell Canyon. The bottom of the canyon is occupied by the water of the river Snake and it was the hottest place of the entire Transamerica, 110 ºF, right on the Idaho - Oregon border.
I ran out of water several times, I had to ask around (rangers and other cyclists). I had also the 8th flat tire of the trip.
The place is dramatically beautiful but it was difficult to enjoy it under the sun, while pedaling.
Today’s stage is Cambridge - Halfway, 92 km but a good deal of those (from Oxbow) had to complete the cycling between 6:00 and 9:30 PM, when air was a little cooler. This is not what I usually do as night cycling required a better set of head lights.
In Halfway I couldn’t find the camping; not sure whether there is one at all! It was another night on a picnic table, under the town park’s pavilion. But hey, I’m in Oregon, at last!
