- Jacques Pépin takes the ultimate American classic (that's right, we're talking about mac and cheese!) and adds his own signature flourish. He starts with a roux of butter, flour and milk, before adding in the cooked macaroni noodles and grated cheddar cheese. He bakes the panko breadcrumb mixture separately, and adds a bit of chives to make it special. Top with parmesan, of course.
Everyone has their own favorite way of cooking macaroni and cheese. Let us know yours in the comments!
What you'll need:
1.5 tbsp butter, 1.5 tbsp flour, 1.5 cup milk, 3 cups cooked macaroni, 1/2 tsp paprika, salt & pepper, 3/4 cup of panko bread crumbs, 1 tbsp olive oil, 1 cup grated cheddar, 1 tbsp of parmesan cheese, chives,

Calls it an American classic.
Proceeds to make it better than any American mac and cheese.
??? This is the traditional way to make it. He exactly described how Americans do it. The only difference is the chives, but even additions are common.
@@kremove what are you talking about? most americans make it out of a premix box.
@@babiesmakinbabies yeah, but the ones who actually make it, do it like this (or bake it with the topping, or no topping, like he said). If you eat a frozen pizza, you didn't "make" a pizza, you just heated it up. Same with mac n cheese.
Have you ever eaten American mac and cheese??
@@babiesmakinbabies No we don't. Some do. I've rarely seen anyone I know who does.
Man can you imagine going to Grampa’s house and it’s Jacques Pepin making you mac and cheese?
I might have to make that for breakfast
my grandparents made food like this because thats how everyone made food back then. everyone their age learned food like this but it wasn't considered fine dining. their skills today are simple because they didn't have the tools we do today
@@funk3nst3in not everyone, my grandma could not cook. A lot of people came out of the depression making food that was simple but not delicious. It really set the stage for them and the next generation to mostly eat canned, frozen, and boxed food.
I had to learn what real food is. I showed my sibling. We have been trying for years, slowly but surely, to get our mom to eat fresh vegetables and real food. It's much harder than getting a kid to their vegetables. Her mother did not know how to cook like Jacques Pepin. Many people did, but not "everyone".
No I can't lol
I’d feel a little cheated honestly. Nothing wrong with this recipe, it’s just that the man knows so many other dishes you would be hard pressed to get anywhere at the quality he could make them.
when the phrase "my grandfather's cooking is the best" is objectively true
haha unless jacques is ur papa! yes its good but is your papa pepin!
Time stands still when I look and listen to Jacque.
Nicely put. Do you know this one?: "A recipe is a reflection of one moment in time." Maybe my favorite line of Jacques'.
It's always so funny how Pepin's cooking looks so rustic and simple and homemade, and then, at the very last minute, in the final shot, it always looks so gourmet and elegant lol
It's so funny to see a frenchman butchering a plate of pasta! In Italy he would risk prison!😂😂😂
It might have something to do with Mr. Pepin running the kitchens at Howard Johnson's for decades. He is a master at making simple preparations look elegant.
Jacques such a good guy! God bless him!
So true 🙂🙂
Long live Pepin!!!
I say the same
His granddaughter is so lucky! 🥰
This man is culinary treasure and the world is better off with him in it!! Thank you Chef!!!

Delicious. I will go and make it now.
Lucky grand daughter!
My daughter always tells me to hold the breadcrumbs, the little Phillistine!
Try doing it with cubed white bread tossed in butter as a crusty topping. Learned that from Martha Stewart.
Looks quick, easy and nice.
