    I like the uneven bumpy seals the best. It looks more authentic and original. The perfect ones look machine made and not as special.

    I am in the UK and just trying out wax seals. The use of a heat gun is good as it avoids getting candle soot in the wax. I have also added tint dried flowers to mine just before stamping them. I think that striving for perfect seals can sometimes make them look 'machine-made' and does not show their hand-made qualities. Our house is 300 years old and our old ownership deeds from 1730 have wax seals for six family members and none are perfect - just practical blobs of rich red wax with initials attached to beautiful red silk ribbon to hold them on the parchment! I treasure them. Thanks for your tips!

    Melting the wax in the candle holder thing takes less time and is easier than your heating tool. Once I've poured my wax, I put the next beads in to melt while I'm finishing up with the seal. By the time I'm ready to do the next seal, the wax is melted. It's a seamless factory line! My hands aren't tied up holding the wax spoon and heating tool.

    To be honest with you, melting the wax with a candle takes just about the same amount of time as with the heat gun. Maybe even a wee bit less. To really speed things up you can pour your wax unto a little square of baking parchment and transfer it to a freezer pack laid flat on the table after you remove the stamp.

    • @amysonnemann256
      @amysonnemann256  Před 3 lety +3

LOL I have been stamping on a non-stick craft mat and that works great for me. I will totally try placing my craft mat on a freezer pack. What a great tip! I place my brass stamp on a freezer pack in between uses to get a clean image but not after I pour the wax. I'm excited to try your tips. Thanks for watching.

      @amysonnemann256  Před 3 lety +4

      Thanks for watching. Sorry you didn’t get the answers you were looking for. I suggest starting with 3 beads for smaller stamps and 5 beads for larger stamps. Each stamp is a little different and there is no one right answer for all the stamps on the market but this is where I start with each new seal stamp I purchase. After I test the stamp a few times, I can decide which one I like best. I prefer thinner seals because they go through the mail better. But others like a thicker seal. It’s a personal preference that determines how many beads you use per style. You can’t go wrong by starting with 3-5 beads. I hope that helps. Have a wonderful day.

      I have tried many different types of glue and haven't had good luck getting it to stick properly. I use a product called Redline Adhesive. It comes in different widths. This is what it looks like. www.amazon.com/3L-Red-Line-Double-Sided-Tape/dp/B078H298G2 I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

    How do you apply a wax seal once it’s cool? Hold it over a flame for a few seconds?

    • @amysonnemann256
      @amysonnemann256  Před 2 lety

      I use Redline adhesive which is super strong. I use most of my wax seals on my handmade cards, so they are on the inside of the envelope. If I’m putting it on the outside of the envelope, I apply it directly to the envelope and have it hand cancelled at the post office.

    Is there a reason nobody uses small cookie cutters w a little Vaseline or something? I see a ton of videos where ppl cannot get the shapes how they want and I don't do this but I always think I would use a cookie cutter or something to pour into to get the shape I want. I'm assuming there's a reason it wouldn't work because surely I am not the 1st to think of this...

    How long on average does it take to melt/dry?

    • @amysonnemann256
      @amysonnemann256  Před 3 lety +1

      Melting time depends on how many pieces of wax I use in the spoon. On average about a minute or two to melt and about the same to cool. I do place my stamp on an ice pack in between uses and that does help it cool faster and give a nice clean impression.

    My problem was that my spoon caught on fire. Wondering now if I simply had it to close to the flame...

    • @amysonnemann256
      @amysonnemann256  Před 3 lety

      Oh No!!!! That’s not good. I’ve never had that happen before. I hope you are okay!!! I’m guessing it was too close to the flame. Do you have a spoon stand to hold the spoon with a tea light? That would give you the perfect distance from the flame.

    how about a candle instead of the heat gun?

    • @amysonnemann256
      @amysonnemann256  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes, you can totally use a candle. I don’t trust myself not to start a fire in the craft room so this is my next best option. 😉 All the candles in my house are flameless. I can’t be trusted. lol Have fun.
