all of them look nice. Maybe the blue one with the holly leaves. I usually pour wax straight onto the envelop and stamp, then I use a tiny amount of gold rub and buff, which gives that bit of an antique gold effect. Never thought of using it other than the envelop. Thank you for the inspiration.

Your cards, as usual, are amazing. I remember using wax seals when I was a teenager and loved them. I now have a good sized set of seals and wax! Still a lot of fun after so many years. I am 72 but sill love to craft😍😍😍
I used wax seals in the early 70’s. The wax came with a wick in the center of the stick, melting the wax. The metal seals were not so plentiful then but it was fun.
Me too! I got my wax from Scotland. The new stuff is more of a plastic blend, but that’s ok b/c it’s more flexible. The most important thing is that you impressing stamp has DEEP groves!
Wish I still had all mine! We had a fire when I was a teen and lost everything but I had quite a collection too!
To achieve more prominent, don't mix with a tool before pouring. Instead, melt wax and pour in a swirling circle motion. Red and white stay separate colors. Love your cards
A good tip is to keep a ziplock bag of ice in a bowl, stand up your seal stamp in the bowl so that it stays cold . Wipe the end on a towel before stamping then sit the stamp back in the bowl after stamping the seal. Works great for setting the stamp and cooling after stamping. Also you can put two sided adhesive stickers on the back of the wax seal, peal off one side stick it to your seal and then when you need to add it to a card or letter, peal off the other side of the adhesive and it is stuck

Dark blue cardstock with Opal foil and holly is my favorite card from this video but it only slightly edges out the craft cardstock with wood grain print and the foiled wreath. Your placing the wax seal in the center of the wreath is hands down my favorite use of a wax seal.
Wax seals have never gone out of vogue with the Stampington crowd. I got a kit in the late 90s in a stamp store. I feel bad about not being a fan of wax seals because I know Spellbinders has taken a big swing with this new line. I’ve been feeling peevish or maybe it’s just dismay because Spellbinders price is like double what one would pay at either Amazon or Etsy.
If I want a seal I much prefer faking it with hot glue. Hot glue can be painted to look like whatever a maker likes or a crafter could use colored hot glue. I usually paint the regular stuff.
I thought I would pass along some tips to any paper crafters who are new to wax seals. If you feel nervous about melting wax over a candle, you have several different options. You can use your embossing gun to melt the wax. If you buy rod shaped wax instead of the beads you can use a hot glue gun. You can also use Ranger’s Melting Pot or an electric hot glue pot. My favorite method is using an electric griddle or skillet.
Electric griddles are cheap and far more versatile than most of the craft products meant to heat stuff up. You can warm up friendly plastic, shrink plastic, & embossing powder. It’s also good with polymer clay and metal clays. I use either disposable tart pans or silicone cup cake pots. You can melt a lot more wax or embossing powder at the same time and then hold it at temperature. You can pour right out of the tart pans so you won’t need a specialty spoon.
If you really want uniform circles of wax there are silicone moulds just for this purpose and they are fairly inexpensive. Some crafters like making a variety of seals at once.
You can use stamps and other craft tools instead of the brass seals. Use embossing ink for a mold release if you use a stamp. Some makers really like using special buttons for the seals usually hot glued to corks. It’s also possible to craft your own seal with either polymer clay or epoxy clay.
Embossing powder can also be used in place of wax, but volume wise embossing powder is more expensive than wax.
I know there’s this whole romantic nostalgia to melting the wax over a candle and the Instagram videos of melting wax are quite popular. But it’s really not all that practical. Sending wax seals through the mail is hit & miss. If you mail them either on a card or an envelope, you should protect it with padding.

The card with the Holly sprigs is my favorite! Also: check out the foiling poinsettias that Spellbinders has - they are da bomb! The foiling goes all the way to the edge. It really makes a difference!

Just came across this. I love the cards!. I'm now incorporating seals in my cards. I've always used them throughout the years; calligraphy is something I loved and using seals on some letters made them stand out. Love the symmetry on yours, but I'll admit, I really enjoy seeing wax poured out and sealed like in antiquity.

Way, way back in the '60's I sealed my envelopes with sealing wax. Nice to see wax is making a comeback, but I was dismayed at the price of Spellbinders kit. Amazon has larger kits with a variety of wax colors for $15 to $23.

I'm late watching this as I was determined not to get into the wax seals as I have some decades old ones that I've never used. BUT I came across a Golden Gate Bridge wax seal stamp and I could NOT resist it. It is gorgeous and I've already created a beautiful seal for an envelope to send to my daughter. This video was very helpful and I love the Navy card with Opal foil. I have quite a bit of Opal foil. It's my fav but it is difficult to tell which side is which especially when using up the negative. How great is it that we can do that?
I use my embossing tool to melt my wax pellets.

HI Simon for your info it costs more to send a letter that has seal on it here in Canada due to it has to be hand stamped. Im not sure about the USA though. Just note your seal will break in the mail is not protected. Love to see waxes come back Ive used them for years. Cards are beautiful
If seal on card it’s best to place on side away from stamp and I use small piece of bubble wrap or foam over it to protect breakage.
I’m going to look for Xmas seals when stores put those supplies on sale. I have several seals I’ve owned more than 40 yrs.
All are so pretty...my favorite is the one with the sealed twine etched dies (so much so that I ordered the die straight away). Thanks for sharing!!
What glue do you recommend to adhere the wax seal to a card or envelope? All you say is “a strong glue”. I’ve tried a couple of glues that I already had and neither seemed to secure the seal so that a fairly minor bump would not dislodge it.
How well do the wax seals hold up when mailed?

I’m new to wax seals- I have a good supply of wax sticks & I was wondering if I could slice the sticks in little disks like you have?? Will they melt as quick as yours?? Also when you are sealing an envelope do you ever pour the wax on the back and place a seal there?? Thank you so much for answering my questions,I greatly appreciate it!!!
I wonder if you try to swirl the different colors only after pouring them onto the silicone mat if that swirling stands out more on the front of the seal... because it seems like when you pour the wax after swirling the colors, they kind of merge together a little bit and the effect is barely visible.
Have you tried the battery eraser for removing excess foil?
The solid plate / die for the foil, can it be used on a die cut machine? I do not have a foil machine

Just curious. Mailing your cards with the wax seals,do you ever notice that they break or shatter in the postal machines? Or do you pay extra to have them hand processed?
The “new” wax is a plastic blend. The are flexible compared to the old was that was brittle.

Simon, how do these hold up going through the US Postal Service? Have you mailed several projects with seals on them, to see how they survive? Also, does it cost extra postage if you use a seal on the back of an envelope? I mail tons of cards, and really need to keep the postage to just one postage stamp. Thanks!
The wax seal on the outside of the envelope will not make it through the automated equipment at the post office! I worked for them for almost 12 years. The average letter goes through four separate machines and goes around multiple curves on the way. If you want one on the outside you'll need to put it inside another envelope that's padded

That kit is SO expensive if you bought it all separately it would be about £12!!!!! I know the packaging is nice but they are way over charging at $59!!!!!
