  • TRADITIONAL LATIN MASS ATTRACTS, ENERGIZES, AND INSPIRES THE FAITHFUL.
Missa Cantata, or sung High Mass, offered on the Last Sunday after Pentecost at the Roman Catholic Parish of Saint Nicolas du Chardonnet (23 Rue des Bernardins, 75005 Paris, France / +33 1 44 27 07 90) in Paris, France.
This is the Eucharistic liturgy of the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church celebrated according to the 1962 Roman Missal (Missale Romanum), also commonly referred to as the Tridentine Rite, or Tridentine Mass, or Tridentine Latin Mass, or Old Latin Mass, or classical Latin Mass, or Traditional Latin Mass (TLM).
The texts of the Latin prayers, and English translations of the same, which are common to every Traditional Latin Mass can be found here: www.sacred-texts.com/chr/lmass...

Tridentine Apogee Yes, some pastors will ignore you, but some will not. The best way to get every parish NOT to offer the true Mass every Sunday is to NOT ask for it! Don't you agree?

+James M WHAT DO CATHOLIC THEOLOGIANS THINK ABOUT THE NOVUS ORDO?
In the never-refuted “Critical Study on the Novus Ordo Missae,” specifically prepared for and personally delivered to Pope Paul VI, Cardinals Alfredo Ottaviani and Antonio Bacci, and twenty Catholic bishops faithful to the Church's Magisterium and Catholic Tradition, ALL declared that the Novus Ordo Mess is harmful and schismatic!
They specifically wrote: "To abandon a liturgical tradition which for four centuries stood as a sign and pledge of unity in worship, and to replace it with another liturgy which, due to the countless liberties it implicitly authorizes, cannot but be a sign of schism--a liturgy which teems with insinuations or manifest errors against the integrity of the Catholic Faith--is, we feel bound in conscience to proclaim, an incalculable error.”

I find that those priest who celebrate the tridentine Mass are more pious and prayerful than those who celebrate the novus ordo, I was a former sacristan of the latin Mass in our parish before and I observe that whenever the faithful request the sacrament of confession to our priest he always entertain them, even before the Mass starts he listens to their confessions patiently even though he already late, because I know that our priest knows the importance of confession; unlike what I experienced to an old priest who do not celebrate the Latin Mass, one sunday I patiently wait that the old priest will finished the novus ordo Mass, after the Mass I approach him and I ask him if he can hear my confession, but only he slightly shake his head, without explaining why, so I turned my back and starts to walk away then suddenly I hear him saying that "go to the Cathedral", I know he is pointing the friday schedule of confession at the Cathedral, and that day is sunday so I will wait for 6 days only to confess. I think this is not thinking what if I meet an accident that day and still in the state.

There is only one small church in the city in which live where one can attend these beautiful traditional ceremonies. From my observations the congregations here consist of roughly 30% elderly, 20% middle aged and most surprisingly of all 50% youth! The Traditional Latin Mass seems to be a source of renewal for Catholisism. Younger Catholics are finding a meaning and true reverence in the practice of their faith that can't be found in the "wishy-washy" muddle of the Novus Ordo.

I remember The Feast of Christ the King 1969 as a very confusing and sad day. It was on this day that we were introduced to the "New Mass". After Mass the congregation stood outside the church for the most part bewildered and some even weeping asking what on earth have they done to the Holy Mass. The priest came out to try and calm and reassure us but many were not reassured and just walked away and were not to be seen at the Novus Ordo Mass again. Many liturgical abuses followed to shock us.

Modernists insist: Vatican II would "create a renaissance in the Catholic faith." Yet, VII's fruit prove otherwise. "By their fruits ye shall know them," teaches the Lord.We judge not by claims, but by fruits! VII DEPARTED from the Faith and in so doing DIVIDED the Church. Division is NOT of the Holy Spirit. Did VII condemn Communism? Socialism? Materialism? Atheism? Protestantism? The truth cannot be proclaimed without the condemnation of error. It is what it is. Let us pray for the Church.

We served regularly and I was in the choir. Once a year we would go to Chicago to shop downtown and have a little vacation. We would go to a large parish right in the loop run by the Dominicans. It was always packed like this church. First you sound like a Faith-alone and Bible-alone Protestant, "as long as no one hates God yada yada".
You say someone "claim to Christian" while "get away with terrible sins". Whom? The fact is no Traditionalist Catholic communities like SSPX, SSPV, CMRI, IMBC, etc, have pedophile affairs.
Also, only those Catholics attend Bogus Disordo Mess, although not all, support things like abortion, LGBT, euthanasia, etc. No Traditionalist Catholics ever make compromise on that.
Second they exactly hate God. They hate God so they hijacked the Holy Roman Catholic Church, changed its doctrines, especially using anthropocentric doctrines to replace theocentric doctrines.
The New Mass is simply and typically an implementation of the theocentric doctrine: humans become the center of "Mass" (mess), the "Mass" has to be interactive and fun.
In contrast, the Tridentine Mass is exactly theocentric: all people face God, no talks by laymen, no secular things like dancing or shaking hands or telling jokes or laughing, etc.
Other doctrinal changes include attitude on Papacy, ecumenism, etc. Antipopes like John Paul II and Paul VI even praise Buddhism. Is that loving God?

After priest Bergoglio showed himself as the true apostate that he is, on the feast of Christ King - and the reading of St. Matthew here is so appropiate, we now maybe have to look for churches that still celebrate Mass according to the pre-Vatican 2 rules. Because the Bergoglian mass that will be imposed shortly, will shove away Christ and put man in the middle of the celebration. The tribulations have started, and we must keep priests like this one like precious treasures. God have mercy on all of us.

I would not like to enter into a theological debate as to which one is a better mass, as I am not a theologian. (I shall leave that to them alone.) However it is so slef-evident by just watching this video that our old mass used to be ever so reverent to the holy Eucharist and to the true presence of God in his temple. It was in deed a truly spiritual and supernatural mass; full of genuflections (i.e. bowing, blessings, positions of reverence, etc.) and wholly focused into the true meaning of the mass; “The holy sacrifice”.
I did not matter how many people attended, because the Priest was not looking at the people he was constantly looking at God.
It did not matter whether people knew how to follow the mass as all they needed to do was to kneel, keep quiet and contemplate the celebrants say the mass.
This is the distraction of today in our masses that people want to make of it a re-using, a social gathering, and that many priest think that making people participate in the mass (i.e. saying the mass, providing readings and communion.) would make people increase their spiritual participation, but it does exactly the opposite (from spiritual point of view), because people are forgetting how to contemplate, and priest are forgetting how to connect and stay closer to God, by stepping closer to the people and the wold.
Thank you so much to Mark for sharing this video
Thank you to EWT for broadcasting this so beautiful mass

For these reasons, all laity and priests who gravitate toward the Tridentine Mass and understand the importance and gravity of hermeneutics of continuity make the best argument for the Catholic faith. This is a High Mass. There is also a Low Mass of the Tridentine Latin Mass. Both are intrinsically the same, guiding the sincere participant to an Interior Encounter with the Catholic God that "Pope" Francis says does not exist. There is no "Extraordinary Form," there is only one Mass, and the Novus Ordo is not it. A Full Presence reading of the Tridentine Mass and the Novus Ordo Mass makes it quite clear that each is expressing an intrinsically different faith. As we pray, so we believe, but the praying must be done consciously, not mechanically, or the very obvious difference between the Tridentine Mass and the Novus Ordo Mass will not be noticed.

      Cardinal Ottaviani’s Letter to the Pope on the proposed Novus Ordo Missae reads;
"the Novus Ordo represents, both as a whole and in its details, a striking departure from the Catholic theology of the Mass as it was formulated in Session XXII of the Council of Trent. The "canons" of the rite definitively fixed at that time provided an insurmountable barrier to any; heresy directed against the integrity of the Mystery."
The theology of the Mass was changed in the Novus Ordo Mass and so those prayers like the offertory and and the Placeat Tibi Sanact Trinitas which made it very clear that the Mass was a propitiatory sacrifice for the living and the head had to go.
The thinking of the litugical experts was that if the elements of the Mass that protestants objected to were taken out or obfuscated, then they would be a greater chance of visible unity. This did not happen. Instead of uniting Christians it caused confusion and divisions among Catholics themselves many of whom stopped going to Mass or moved to the margins outside of the visible boundaries of the Catholic Church. Rome in still in denial that the Novus Ordo has anything to do with the dramatic drop in Mass attendance that continues to this day.

Its beautiful but I dont understand why they use a microphone. In an old church, why? I think it harshens and distorts the sound. Furthermore, the sound of hundreds of years is 'stored' in the stone. I was in Seville cathedral and there was a service at the side and as the singing began you could literally feel the stone activate. You could feel the connection: unearthly feeling. The microphone wants taking out and let the church resonate.

I would support the general return of the Tridentine mass, but only if accompanied by a restoration of the traditional Ambrosian Rite, the Mozarabic Rite, the Sarum Rite, the Gallican Rite, and the Rite of Braga, within the regions where their use is traditional, as well as the continuation of the traditional rites of the religious orders (e.g. the Dominican Rite), and the traditional rites of the Eastern particular churches.

I attend the Tridentine Mass every Sunday with a Shrine Church under the care of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. The church is beautiful, Victorian Gothic see the 360 degree tour at stwalburge.org it truly is amazing. Church numbers had dwindled to nothing so the Church was in danger of being closed before it was consecrated to the Institute, now it is a lively bustling community, and the Latin Mass is available every day of the week, with High Mass on every Sunday. I used to attend the SSPX church here, but the Prior became tyrannical so I stopped going to Church until the Institute reopened St Walburge's. I have recently learned that the aforementioned prior has abandoned the SSPX for the breakaway SSPX group of Bishop Williamson, and taken members of the congregation with him!!!

After watching this video I think we have lost something of the mystery and reverence of the old Latin Mass. Today it has become unfashionable to refer to the Sacrifice of the Mass and now we are encouraged to call it a Eucharistic Meal. A book called 'Looking again at the Liturgy' by beloved Benedict XV1 seems to reassert the Sacrificial. Whilst Vatican 11 was I suppose necessary to contemporise Catholicism for the approach of the 21st Century it seems some of those charged with managing the changes basically didn't know what they were doing? Starting with Bls John Paul 11and Benedict XV1 the Mass Liturgy is slowly going through a transformation for the better. Some argue the Priest must face East, personally I feel we should be engaging more with the Liturgical words and form of the Mass in a deeper way, whether it is in Latin or the vernacular; it is all to the Glory of God and thanksgiving to Jesus for our Redemption and ultimate Resurrection. Can't one appreciate the beauty of the Tridentine Mass without slandering the Novus Ordo? Attending Mass is not all about us and what we like or dislike. It’s about what happened on Golgotha on Good Friday when God the Son shed his blood for us. It’s all about him! At Mass, it is his body and blood that is offered on the altar-regardless of what language is spoken, what rite is used, or what words are sung. Certainly, we all have our own tastes. But the light of his sacrifice must blind us to all else at such a moment.

+Unoriginal Username WHAT DO CATHOLIC THEOLOGIANS THINK ABOUT THE NOVUS ORDO?
Don't take anybody’s word for it. Read the NEVER-REFUTED “Critical Study on the Novus Ordo Missae.”

+Unoriginal Username I agree with you that it is not all about us however that is exactly why the novus ordo should not be practiced. The novus ordo caters to 'modernism' which has been explicitly denounced. We have been given directions on how we must worship and yet the masses choose to ignore that as Cain did because the traditional practices are 'inconvenient'. "When therefore you shall see the abomination of desolation, which is spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place: he that readeth let him understand. ...let them flee to the mountains, etc" (Matt. 24:15-19) The 'Holy Place' is in reference to places of worship i.e. Consecrated Churches. An abomination is a form of worship that is displeasing to almighty God.

I agree. Here in NJ, the music of every mass is like the Captain and Tenille, we have no choir. Once female singer who is so loud the congregation doesn't even bother to sing, and one man playing guitar or piano. Sometimes they even use a tambourine. Even the Catholic hymnal we use ..every song seems like "I want to be a sunbeam for Jesus" nne of the beautiful stately hymns. The priest rushes through the mass like its a speed competition or he is an auctioneer. My 10 year old just hates it

As a traditionalist myself, I think many of us take it too far. Women should veil, absolutely and men should dress nicely and I leave it at that. I find nothing wrong with dress shoes, khakis, and a polo. We live in a different fashion era. I think many of us get caught up in the time period when we think about the Latin Mass. Back in the early 20th century, suits were an everyday outfit for most men and so it would've been customary to go to Mass in it. How many men today own suits? Not many and if I poor man does not have the nicest clothing, who are we to condemn him of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. We can have the Latin Mass but if we forget why we celebrate it, it's worth nothing. Pax.

True. Pope Benedict XVI wrote extensively on the abuses that liberal priests and bishops committed post the Second Vatican Council. I personally pray the Tridentine Mass with FSSP and pray the Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom at the local Byzantine Rite parish. Having spoken with converts, who did extensive research, from Protestantism to Catholicism, it is self evident that Vatican II was not meant to create hermeneutics of rupture but to create a renaissance in the Catholic faith.
