    I am eighty one years of age and watching this has me in tears of joy at what we had but very much tinged with a great sadness at what is lost to us. I am amazed at how I remember every bit of it like it was yesterday. I can sing along with it so much was the wonderful impression it had on my young mind all those years ago. Look at the reverence one can feel and the beautiful discipline of it all. Everyone concentrating on worshipping our beloved Lord.

      @@Jame243 In the '40's we attended Holy Mass - there was no other! In '62, the church's were still full and scarves, Sunday best, missals, rosary beads, silence and reverence were the order of the day. Only males attended altars, with multiples of altar, acolyte and choir boys and men singing beautiful hymns. It took forever to work though the lines for confession. Then, we had vat2, which spelled the death of the true rubrics, rites and liturgies, ending up with only a shadow - of this false church!

      You should read more. Tridentine mass is made to standardize the mass celebrated at western world. Before the Tridentine mass was being enforced, the structure was similar but how it was celebrated and expressed was slightly different in the western world according to different places. That's what we lost in the Tridentine mass. Look up ambrosian rite and other rite at the western church. Vatican 2 is supposed to restore the faith after the standardization of rite using the tridentine.
      One more thing, novus ordo is called ordinary mass. And tridentine is called extraordinary mass in vatican 2.
      Ordinary mass because it has all the basic foundation of the liturgy. You can trace back with an early christian. It is the truest form of how it was celebrated in the early times by following the formula written by church fathers.
      Extraordinary mass (tridentine) is the mass celebrated in rome before vatican 2. It contains the culture's influence and tradition that's why it is called extraordinary because it shows our identity as roman catholic.
      Fyi, Vatican 2 hasn't been fulfilled yet. All catholics should obey and try to not compare novus ordo with tridentine.
      After novus ordo is accepted by roman catholic, then we can have extraordinary mass as our solemn mass one day in the future for big occasions. We need to preserve the sacredness of the extraordinary mass.
      It is our mission to make tridentine mass become an extraordinary mass. Because it holds a lot of history.
      Never says one rite is holier or more reverend than others. We have eastern catholics rite and other western rites which have been preserved well. All rites may look different but they hold the same foundation of all liturgy, same goes to novus ordo.
      Funny to see that eastern catholics bishops & priests come to rome and had no issue celebrating the novus ordo with the roman bishops & priests. Unfortunately, there are some people from roman catholic had issues with it. I believe it is the job of all parishioners and parish priests to make a novus ordo mass to be more reverence. Do not blame novus ordo for the secular music or whatever. It is the parishioners and parish priests task to decide what to have and what to not have by following vatican 2, it can be gregorian chant, modern musics, sing or no singing, etc. Everything is done by the community and the parish priests..
      But still, I am thankful to SSPX & FSSP and i believe they should remain as the one who preserve the extraordinary mass until all roman catholic accepts the ordinary mass (novus ordo) then one day tridentine can be said as what vatican 2 states what it is- extraordinary mass.
      That's all. May God bless us all.
      It doesn't matter if you go to tridentine mass by SSPX or I go to Novus Ordo mass, let it not separate us as brothers and sisters in Christ and affect our relationship with others. We need to unite as catholics.

    • @alexandrochansonbruce4074
      @alexandrochansonbruce4074 Před 7 měsíci +3

      Vatican 2 especially novus ordo is meant to fulfill the revelation where all the faithful including laymen become more participate in the liturgy.
      The Church should grow, so that we won't repeat history. Plus, as long as it follows the tradition and doesn't contradict the deposit of faith left by the apostles, then it should be fine to have a girl altar server in novus ordo because it doesn't contradict the deposit of faith. but not in tridentine mass or other rites that has its own long tradition and already stated in the missal. I hope it's clear your misunderstanding.
      Fyi, there is a certain condition that can allow girl altar servers for novus ordo, but i forgot. It should be meant for boys only. Usually it depends on the local bishop on how they set the condition.
      The Eucharist minister does not contradict the deposit of faith, so it should be fine. But still, there are some conditions when eucharist ministers can be implemented based on the local bishop.
      Things that has been taken away by tridentine mass:
      - concelebration
      - receive communion by hands (which was practiced by some eastern churches)
      - receive the wine (got some exception, but i forgot)
      This practices already existed and was preserved well by the eastern world. Remember that eastern and western bishops used to celebrate mass together at rome, but it was because of previous popes, bishops and some dark history that happened to make us forget how a mass should be celebrated without thinking eastern or western rite, only think as one catholic and apostolic church. 😮😮😮
      So hope you are clear. There is nothing removed by the church. Not all things have changed since vatican 2. It is just some additions that need to be made and certain conditions are required to allow it.

      In the older custom, even when Gregorian chant is used for Sanctus, Sanctus is usually sung half ie Sanctus, Sanctus.....Pleni sunt caeli...Hosanna in Excelsis. Then the choir will remain quiet and kneel for the moment of Consecration. After the elevation of Chalice, then the choir will stand up to sing the other half of the Sanctus ie Benedictus qui venit in.....Hosanna in excelsis.
      Some choirs retain this custom (singing 1st half, kneel at consecration and then sing the other half after the consecration) not necessarily bcause they use the polyphonic Sanctus, which is obviously lengthy, but because it is always has been the custom.

    I’d like to add a quick warning to this comment: it may come off as rough or very forceful, even though that is not my intention.
    This Mass is a masterwork of beauty. Can I witness this myself? No, not really. Do I care? Not at all. Why? Because this mass is beautiful in its own right, but Vatican II was important for the Church to modernize and expand. Additionally, Vatican II was not what changed the liturgy (that was a post-conciliar thing) but it was the most important council for deciding the future of the church too. All I ask is to please stop blaming the Mass on Vatican II, and if you don’t have a Vetus Ordo mass nearby, try the best to make the Novus Ordo as reverent as possible. Why?
    1. Novus Ordo is valid.
    2. The more you try to do to make the Novus Ordo reverent, the more sacrifice you are putting in personally to see to it. Sacrifice is worship.
    3. The Vetus Ordo will not die. Even though Pope Francis has limited it, he refuses to ban it, for many reasons.

The Solemn High Mass was celebrated by Mgr John McDonald, with Fr Gordon Read as deacon, Fr Antony Conlon as subdeacon, Terry Worroll (director of music at St James's Church, Spanish Place, London) as organist and Claude Crozet directing the choir (who had come from the Church of Our Lady, St John's Wood, London). The year 1962 does not refer to the year in which the mass video was celebrated. 1962 refers specifically to the missal that is used in the celebration of the traditional Latin mass.

    • @m-hayek1985
      @m-hayek1985 Před 5 lety +3

      MCHDMAFFin Comedy actually the veil is a sign of modesty. It’s a ancient tradition stretching back to the early Christians and was mandatory prior to Vatican 2 under the 1918 code of cannon law. Furthermore, St Paul writes in the book of corinthians that women should veil in church. So it’s backed up by scripture, tradition and the old code of cannon law. Pax!

    Quit pretending that the "TLM" rite of 1962 is Tridentine or pre-Vatican II. It was promulgated just in time for VII and that's where it was used, not elsewhere or before. The fruits are now well known. Have some integrity.
