I think they are extremely important for in a car. Recently we had a MAJOR ice storm. In 24 hours our area looked like an actual war zone (been there done that). Trees and limbs down everywhere. Weeks later the area is still cleaning up with about 20% cleaned up. These pocket boys helped to get the limbs out of the way.
Quick comment here.... Having lived in Japan for many years (no, not military), I can attest to the quality of Japanese products. If this is truly made in Japan, you're going to get something that is FAR better than if it was made in China. Since the instructions do not have anything printed in Chinese, that leads me to believe it's genuine. I kind of wish the blade was a bit longer, but it seems that this saw has no problems cutting through whatever you need.

If you want a longer blade buy the 170 instead of the 130
