- Welcome to another video.
This time we have a car in the workshop which was bought as spare or repairs cheap. Reason why the car ended up as spare or repairs was a previous bill for £12.000 and the engine meant to be rebuilt. The new owner wants to have the car sorted so first we have to find out what's the damage and what we can use for rebuilding. After I removed the engine I had a bit of mixed up feelings WTF happened and why would somebody actually do that ....
thanks for watching.

You can send the oil off to be forensically inspected to see its contents that would be interesting
My thoughts exactly 💪🏼
more money? why? the dead end was reached...and even if was the incorrect oil? lawyers, more money, time, stress that becomes anger,...sleepless nights. I don't know how the law works in their country but in mine it's very slow, specially in cases like this that no murderer was done.
@@RATADATUAVELHA it's a12k job that ruined an engine and then cost probably another 16k to fix. Probably worth the £80 an oil sample would cost, especially if they have left in oil flush / totally the wrong oil or similar, as they're then blatantly responsible.
Maybe mineral oil? But the bottom end wasn't rebuilt....
Please also check the gearbox oil. You might find cooking oil there
Appreciate your video Tomas! Poor owner, but he is in good hands finally. Cheers from Sweden.
The RS4 is in the right place now.. 12k rebuild and they never checked the cats…🤦🏼♂️…Great vid guys. Enjoyed the vampire humour comment. 🦇
Really feel for the owner, but at least he knows it will be done right this time. 🙏🏻
This is such an underrated channel
Heartbreaking to see. That oil was not fit to lube my Kawasaki drive chain. 😢
🤠 at work at last place - yeeha!!!
Curious with your engine removals would you be able to show a clock when you're removing the engine to show how much time is being spent on removing?
Clearly your depth of knowledge is substatial on these vehicles. Where did you do your training on them? Were you a dealer tech in the past? Interesting to learn your background.
That oil looks exactly like used 55k mile Subaru CVT fluid. I just pulled a CVT so had a good look at it and it looks like what you found. Doesn't really smell that much, though.
How did you get on with the Hybrid V6 on the last car did it have to be sent off to fix 24 volt system.
Watching the car roll back slightly as you lean over the engine bay - I feel that in my calfs already lol.
I cant wait to hear about the shop in question getting crap from everyone. Name and shame!
Great channel. Thanks for another one. I'm always looking for B7 RS4 content, but watch them all. Thanks again.
great job…pity the unlucky owner spent so much money for nothing.
I hope in UK some judge could push the seller to refound all…
Not the seller! The £12k repair garage
@@aqib2000 sure…apologize for my mistake.
Great job, wish you guy where here in Big island Hawaii . We need experts like you
It's the little things that make the biggest difference.👌
Really feel it for this owner. Can't believe how over hyped these cars are bearing in mind well documented design flaws and stellar repair bills. I wouldn't be swallowing a 12k bill so easily.
I have a challenging issue with my 2008 Audi S5 4.2 (186,000 km) that I hope you can help with.
About 1-2 days after washing the engine (3 months ago), I started experiencing misfires in cylinder 2, but only under load, specifically when hitting around 3500+ RPM with about 20-30% throttle. The car runs smoothly without misfires when driven gently without pushing it.
Here’s what I’ve done so far:
Replaced all spark plugs and coils
Changed the injector in cylinder 2
Performed an oil service and installed a new battery
Replaced the engine mount on the driver's side
Conducted a compression test which showed good results
Despite these changes, the misfire in cylinder 2 persists. I even tried relocating the plugs and coils, but the problem remains. Any insights or advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated!
Have you considered sending the block to get laser welded and then machined to the right diameter? There is a company in Germany that does this kind of repairs. They are called Subi performance, maybe you know them. I just mention this in the case it could help you.
Sounds like the oil could be mixed with power steering fluid if its green and smells like gearbox oil. I wonder if someone had taken that bottom end cradle from another car which caused the bearing spin.....
I believe in later VW group vehicles power steering is electric so there is no oil to pump in power steering
@@markusfpv1349 Yeah B8.0 had power steering but B8.5 moved to electric with no fluid.
That green tint to the oil could be a mix of normal oil mixed with something like Liqui Moly Molygen or with any green engine oil
Looks like CVT oil, green and stinking like hell.
i really enjoy watching your videos.
Great to see our English sarcasm wearing off on you. I really like the way you explain everything and want to do a proper job and not bodge things. If I need my 2006 B7 2.0TFSI rebuilt, I will deffo be in touch. Its currently on 175k and unable to move due to crap Hella fuel pump letting me down. Fitting a genuine one on Sat, really hope it starts🤞🤞😁
You have an interesting and meanwhile very hard work of fixing powerful engines as a rule damaged by foolish assarmed unqualified "garage masters". It's really nice to see how you working with explanation every step in rebuilding process.
How much would a new block from the main dealers cost out of interest?
You really do know your stuff on these Audi's 👍
That block can be welded and re align honed… very simple repair
Can you do it with warranty?
No, not with manufacturers warranty…. But I’m guessing because it’s in your workshop that it is outside of factory warranty? I am a professional, performance engine builder and have carried out this repair many, many times… with fantastic success… didn’t mean to appear rude or arrogant. Just thought I could suggest another option for you and your customer
they did the same with my old S4, they destroyed the engine and blamed it on me, I made the BIG mistake of signing reception before driving the car. Bastards
I would buy a 2nd RS4 (around 20K), use that engine for rebuild, keep the rest of the car as donor for parts or parts sell.
Rebuild can then begin with running engine not repairing other peoples mess. Just my 2 cents.
Well at least it will be fine and the job done right, top job as always 😁
What's the bet they put the first main bearing upside down, blocking the feed hole.
I have college who just rebuilt his Jeep grand cherokee and it seized up after 10 km and bill was 10 000 euro. Also crankshaft bearing problem.
Coolant was low before you started the work, could it be oil cooler leak into oil? To make it smell I wonder , curtainly the bottom end main cap was not a match to the block.
Keep up the great work and videos lads
Really appreciate 👍🏻
If there was coolant in the oil system that would have been obvious at the instant the oil drain plug was removed (ie: the coolant would come out first). In the absence of any comment to that effect the assumption is that there was no contamination.
Great video as always guys thank you 😊
Cats seem to be a bit too uncommon issue on the B8 and 8.5 RS4. Seen a few with the same thing.
Hopefully its not gearbox oil, Dodgy engine rebuilders use gearbox oil to make up for the crankshaft bearing tolerances. It eventually fails to the point of no return and so on and so on.
Maybe they used the old Duckham's hyper grade.....The green death.
@@derekcable where iam from an 75w90 is used
@@dalesmit7869 Could very well be the case.
When I saw the oil draining I thought the oil looked too thick ?
I am obviously wrong but visually it does look odd.
this is why we get experts like VAG to look at these things. looks like the engine in there is 2nd hand since there are no markings on it. 12k to have a car not run? nah, that's sad and downright out of order. rip off. first place i take my car to, is these guys. not even audi. nah. wicked fault find, looking forward to seeing the next video on this.
The gearbox oil you found could it be hydraulic oil ? Hydraulic 32 is green like the oil you found just a thought,
great stuff! very informative thankyou
Should do a follow up on the owner to see if he got any money back from that garage
I think someone is taking the piss engine rebuilt by Bob the builder the oil would need sampling because as you say it’s rubbish probably an hydraulic oil you don’t take your Rolls to jack shits workshop you take it to professionals like your selves
Great videos as usual and I always look forward to the next one great work boys 👍🇬🇧
Epic video.
Poor guy. What’s the process for ‘warranty’ from the previous workshop in the UK ?
I’m in Australia, where are you sourcing spare parts from ? Can’t use you as a workshop, that’s all.
Love the bigger engines, this was great! It looked strangely clean inside… (behind the backplate and under the cam covers) Have you done a 4.0TT at some point? Thanks?
The oil looks very thin maybe it was running/bedding in oil ?
Should be in Ireland.. its pissing rain with 6 months.😅 great video as always..
it's the end of the world mate....here was 25C on Wednesday and today, they give snow for the weekend above 1200m.
Good intro!😄
Imagine all that happened because the apprentice put in gearbox oil!
Did the wrong oil cause the CAT failure?
@@robertslegers257no
Sorry for the owner but if you cant maintain a RS4 then don't drive it or even consider giving it out for cheap labour or to skimp on costs. This video is a perfect example of that. I owned a B5 RS4 with 600HP for 3 years. Just the maintaince alone was 30g in those 3 years.
If only other knew like you know 😀
@@VAGTechnic I got confronted with 10k within the first 2 months; lmao. Quite some things that needed to be taken care off. Preventive maintenance will always be more expensive then when it absolutely needs to. Take into account on regular driving onto the ring obviously takes it's wear off of a 20 year old car. I've had so much fun with it - it was a beast. I considered getting a C5 RS6 but geezus that will add 50% more tax, fuel, insurance and everything else with it.
Great video, thank you :)
Looks like everyone wants a high performance car but no-one wants to spend a penny on maintennce and this is the result
Is it possible that it's a "flushing agent" they've left in the engine and not then replaced with oil?
Could you not send out the block for line boring
great work lads keep it up
I hope the video will be soon on the sk channel :)
Money pit
Nice video, thanks 🙌👍👌😊🍀
Oil for rich people 😂😂. That got me
Can you give more details on sleeving just one cylinder and who does this? Is it steel or alusil? All resources in the USA I've consulted with want to sleeve all 8?
Green? sounds like power steering etc. oil
one reason some people might use gearbox oil in an engine-is in an attempt to "quiet" the engine. Gearbox oils typically have different additive packages designed to handle high pressure and shear forces, which can sometimes dampen engine noise temporarily if the engine is experiencing issues like lifter noise or bearing wear... here's your answer 😀 cowboy builders 😂
Hello, what is the price for a chain change on this type of engine?
Could you have an oil analysis performed on the engine oil ? Could owner seek a refund from previous shop?
Maybe running in oil?
Can that engine block not been welded and machined (line bored)?
For the most part it seems that these cars are owned by people who only do corrective maintenance rather than preventative maintenance. The "She'll be right mate" attitude.
Motul brake in oil smells like gearbox oil and is very thin.
Well then
Hey bud surely the guys that build the engine should be giving the money back or paying for the rebuild
Perth 28° West Australia 😏
👏 ❤
do you guys get a lot of the 3.0 supercharged around there ?
Did the costumer actually pay £12K for a shop to destroy the engine?
And now has to use the same amount again?
Is it possible to take a liner from the bad block to use in that new/used one you talked about?
No.
Hi guys love the content. What happened to the hybrid car
Working on it
@@VAGTechnic are these the same common faults as the B7 rs4 engines? should they have changed the main and rod bearings as just a preventive?
U can't repair the block?.....even for a spun bearing surely that could be saved
lets go!
What happened to the Audi with the mild hybrid problem?
Working on it
TPS profits up by £2m for all the parts required in this rebuild 😁 poor owner is now bankrupt or out robbing a bank on foot to pay the bill for his getaway car
Was it a Birmingham car
London
Surely the owner didn't pay all that £££ if it died on the ramp ???
I Dont know tbh , but there is invoice for it
Lol. RS being the operative word. You'd need to be one to buy one. Great way to convert money into scrapyard ally melt.
Pot kettle black…
I suspect that you've done so many of these engines that it isn't time lapse but actual speed on the video😁Shame people go for the "cheap" option and end up paying twice instead of going to the real experts first.
That's another million pound spent😂😂
Other 15000 pounds here and you could buy another one
And engine Will fail afterwards 👍
Twelve quid. Bargain
100k miles... that's not much.
For an Audi 4.2 V8 FSI it is when maintenance is neglected. And all sorts of things can randomly fail even then.
@@vincentlaw82 ya I guess you're right. I just couldn't wrap my head around why one with an RS would neglect service. Oh well, at least it's in good hands now.
@@DenHvideHund because people want to look cool but won’t pay couple of 100s for services
lawyers?
Maybe the new shitty VW 0W-20 oil
You can probably pop those engines in & out in your sleep by now, eh?
Waste of time and money.. 💯. Owner could have just bought Vauxhall Astra 😂😂😂
Happy owner 🤮
With so much money already invested on it, He could had bought a New Engine
Like the previous owner and new owner put the money together? 😀
Why do Audi make such a shit engine, love their cars but ticking time bombs 💙
4.2 is a very good engine, it needs regular and proper maintenance almost like any other high performance engine
Maybe you could try and think intelligently - there are many thousands of Audi engines that do not end up like this, because the owners use the proper oil in them and change it as per schedule or more frequently. A shit rebuilder does not make an Audi engine shit, either. My 15 year old Audi engine is running trouble free. Yes mine is a sample of one properly maintained engine, but the engine in this video as also a sample of one - a mistreated engine requiring a rebuild and then being f*cked up by a shit mechanic.
