- Welcome to another video.
This time the same old story about the S4 B9 . A bit of a special video , because we received this car directly from the dealership after several months standing there . Owner if this S4 was really disappointed with a bill from Audi for finding the problem . Once he decided he had enough the car came to us as a non runner and the parts from the engine were in the back . If that's not enough , while stripping the engine down at dealers , they manage to damage some parts and after all this they advise the owner he needs a new engine ....
Will we be able to fix this one ? Or Audi was right and we need a new engine?
More in the video, thanks for watching !

For a guy whose first language isn't English you do a fantastic job of explaining all the technical parts of your job , You'd make a great teacher. Love your videos. PS Audi owner's are lucky to have you in the UK .
if I had to guess the first language is Hungarian.
naaaa, Welsh @@nukez88
@@nukez88 They are Slovaks.
Agreed 👌
Please tell me that the owner of the B9 is taking that shady dealer to court! Corporate needs to be involved at a minimum. I’ve seen you guys take probably close to a hundred engines apart and I’ve never seen you treat customer equipment like that. Glad they were able to get you guys to help.
I would name and shame them and they would be paying for the damage they caused it’s a good job you guys are here to fix them properly. Certainly if I owend a Audi you would be my go to garage 👍👍
I would as well, the thing is VAG techic still needs to get his spares from them so he needs to be careful what he says ,although in this case he has exposed very shoddy dealership work
@@lesbaty8919 Thats not a reason. Looking at the work, I really dont believe its from a Audi dealer. at 5 mins, he says something as absurd as, The dealer must of not had the tool and they used a pliers or something. WTF Dude, Yeah totally makes sense, they dont have it, only your workshop has the "AUDI" Tool. there are so many things and comments he makes doesnt add up
You Guys are Awesome!!! If only more VAG techs took as much pride in diagnosing and repairing these cars the world (VAG world) would be in a better place!
VW and Audi could make their part and make a car that is somewhat reliable. Can't have cars with 140k needing a full rebuild due to faulty chain tensioners or oiling issues, plus electrical issues.
I've attempted to get work as a technician with audi/vw multiple times but they aren't hiring anyone who actually knows these cars
They sure are, BEST OF THE BEST, I'd say
I always said that there are no bad cars.. but only bad technicians. Cars are very complicated things so it is close to impossible to make them faultless.
@@texfromroI like the way you think 👍 I think the same
Shocking work by the dealership!
All dealerships want are easy service jobs, just enough to get the vehicle through it's warranty.
Seems to be the case on the face of it. One hopes the owner has some success in getting some redress through the small claims court.
You guys do excellent work! Today, that's a rarity in the industry. Keep it up ...and keep uploading!
Coming from a 20 year VW Master Tech in the US, you guys definitely do great quality work. Well done!
I would argue that from what I've seen, you guys ARE among the best of the best. If I lived in your country I would definitely trust you guys to do anything I couldn't do. Amazing job! This is just another example of why one would want to avoid a dealership....
Total respect for your knowledge and professionalism, I’ve never really trusted the main dealers. Shame you’re not located in Scotland. Keep the videos coming, love watching them and educating. 👍🏼👍🏼
Great post. Most Audi dealerships do not have clue ! I would rather go to an independent specialist like yourselves any day of the week !
The fact you keep it real and don't sugarcoat stuff is the reason I've subscribed. Seen your vids come up in my feed a couple times you guys do good work, hope you blow up on CZcams.
you guys are awesome. I just got scammed by an auto shop, and it is shameful what they try to do. Keep doing the right thing.
I would go to you guys for any repair & servicing. You guys do great work, better than the actual Audi dealers. I hope you guys get more customers. Greetings from NZ!
A fellow Kiwi loving these guys & their work! Wish they were here in NZ as I'd have my car(08 RS4-B7) serviced by them in a heartbeat!!
You guys are seriously awesome. I also had a bad experience at the Audi dealership with my B5 S4 years ago due to all of the recalls it was getting if anyone remembers those times. The 1st recall letter wasn't so bad and I got a rental but by the 4th recall letter, it was starting to get annoying and also they weren't helping with rentals and they suddenly changed the terms and conditions of their extended warranty to not cover rentals. I ended up using my insurance for a rental and they approved it( thank you GEICO BTW). Car was great after I kept it with an independent VAG shop in town and it has been a god send. Much respect for your videos and thanks for sharing it. As an American, I find it funny that I understand your English much better than the native English speakers. Kudos for that. But that's just me and my bum ears.
I went to an Audi dealership regarding the rocker arm issue and they recommended an engine replacement for £18K!
I can’t wait till my January appointment with you guys for rocker arm service for my B9 S5!
The main dealers can be so clueless! And I’m surprised to see that there isn’t a class action lawsuit against Audi regarding this very expensive and common failure!
saw a lot of these at auctions. never understood why till now.
Do you know how much these guys charge to replace rocker arms?
there's more to it than meets the eye. i would only buy one of these with a comprehensive warranty and have it extended if possible .
@@jonodunn2592 £4,000 for rocker arm service and they do some other part replacement too like water pump (included in price). Worth noting bulk of these kind jobs are labour cost.
@@joemalone9380 I wish I knew back then, lesson learned the hard way. Taken the hit on the chin and will be more diligent going forward
I like this channel and I like this owner . He’s very competent and I’m sure his work is outstanding.
Great mix of technical and explaining the bigger picture. Keep it coming, thanks guys! 🚙🔥
You guys are THE VAG specialists!
Awesome work love it!
Great video - after 30 yrs of running fast Audi's - mostly tuned S8's - I only ever used the dealerships when the cars were under warranty - as soon as they fell out of warranty I used a good specialist for servicing and repairs - like you, they have more knowledge in a small team than the larger teams in the dealerships. They care more and charge far less. I think a second lesson is to treat this type of car like an aircraft and research a preemptive maintenance plan based on what typically goes wrong - especially if, like the example here, failure could cause very expensive damage. I recently did this for my wife's BMW 5 series (520d) and was surprised at how many things posed a risk (e.g. the plastic inlet manifold can fail and drop the butterfly valves into the cylinders.. When we (preemptively) took it off (at 100k) one of them was near failure and only a few 1000 miles off collapse.
You gents are proper professional. Love the channel. The honesty you give is top notch and the work is always done properly. I have a 15 Mk7 GTI and would be absolutely livid with this situation. I've been in a VW for the past 10 years and the stealership always gives problems upon every visit. Keep up the great work guys. If I lived in the UK I know where I would be bringing my vehicle!
surely on this evidence Audi should meet the costs? Or be compelled to by making a claim in court.......misdiagnosis is one thing but destroying parts willfully is quite another!
When Audi can learn a thing or two, it suggests you've reached GOAT status. Amazing work guys!
Beautiful work with genuine and honest explanation. I just discovered your channel and I am subscribed 😊
Shame on the dealership ,he should be able to sue them i would imagine ,great work guys
you guys take pride in your work,im after a rs4 if i have problems i know where it will come
Great video, you boys show how interested you are in the cars you look after !
I don't want to jinx it, but my 1.8t AUQ is still going strong after 21 years. Been dailying it for 7 years on stage 2 map, and never missed a beat other than 1 MAF and a few PCV pipes here and there. Original 21 year old turbo too I believe. Shows how things have changed.
As always, great job and great video! Thanks for doing that!
Watching your professionalism almost makes me want to buy a broken Audi just to see you put all back together again properly🤔😜
Awesome Tech. and I could listen to your voice all day. 🙂
Excellent work and videos. Thank you.
Top job by a top Garage and a top man , at least you know what you are doing Glad to see you been busy ,keep up the great work !!!!
Experiencing almost the same here in my country, except they are an indie shop. The car went in for a simple timing chain and cam replacement. They messed everything up but still paid for their labour and the car is a non runner
Brilliant upload, a team who cares as much about the owners car as the owner. Unbelievable a main dealer has treated this car and owner in the manner it did, they are not fit to trade.
I had similar issue with audio dealership in northampton...... total idiots working behing the counter..... you guys are doing great job
With every video I watch (which is a lot these days) I wish you were here in the 'states... I'd buy with a lot more confidence if I knew we had a shop like yours over here for my "old" Audi's, lol.
Love you episodes. The saying goes.. Wear and tear. Not tear and wear. Just thought I would mention it. Not to make you feel bad just so you know. You guys are amazing techs. Keep up the hard work. Brilliant videos
😀
I thought the actual saying is "wear and tear" NOT "tear and wear".
Fantastic job you smashed it 👊🇬🇧
Love the C7 TDI, good to know about the injector washers, thanks!
Awesome videos, great work as usual.
Tbh I'm not convinced that German engineering is the quality it was once was.
Well VAG certainly isn't !
You guys are the best audi mechanics technicians. I love it. I wish you guys had a shop here in American Dallas Texas
I will take my audi to you guys working on
Fantastic skill and knowledge wish you were closer to Dundee 😃👍👍
I wish your fantastic team was here in the USA. I would not trust anyone with my 2005 S4 Avant manual V8 service except you! Maybe you can travel over here when I am in need of a timing service?? ;)
This is why we come to Vag Technics First! 🎉😂
Pirate map - oh that was so funny but so very true also. Watching these videos almost makes me want to buy an old S4 just so I can bring it to you guys for love and care.
Great job guys!
Great content guys 👍🏻👍🏻
Well done guys . Good to see common sense , skilled technicians at work . Love your videos . Audi ... shame on you
Quality work guys as always. I would be taking the Audi dealer to the small claims court to get my money back.
Good work man !
Huh i never knew Stevie worked for Audi ....wonders never cease
From another Technician Awesome job brother
Really informative video guys. I am thankful my A8 is a 2015 D4. I know there can still be issues with my 2015 3 litre tdi but the D5 is concerning. I absolutely wish to have an oil pressure remap, and as my car has 50k a gearbox service too. I will be in touch soon to book the car in. 🙏🏻
I would bring my VAG to these guys, 100%. But I don't own VAG anymore, I liked my mechanic but I came there every two months for all kinds of small but annoying failures.
Very interesting to watch the pro's go at it.
⚠️WOW !
MDM main dealer muppetry.
Why would anyone go to them ???
Great channel 👏
Looks like a runner to me! 🤣 I think they found the faulty rocker arm and then got bored. Don't forget they are only service centers! All the gear no idea
I beg to differ.. you'd be sharply humbled if you worked at one for a week. You'd soon change your mind.
You got it in one.....parts fitters, not mechanics.
That one clearly didn't have all the gear either, judging by the butcher job the did on the cam adjusters
@@chriswilson2834 My local Audi dealer in Exeter charges £180 an hr labour.....£180! How can that be justified...
Nice Work!
Someone at Halesowen Audi is getting a written warning ⚠️ 😅 I'm a ex Audi tech and I can tell you , this isn't the normal quality of workmanship. Terrible workmanship. Technician needs to seriously rethink his life choices.
Yes, inform, enlighten
Man brings back memories when I first replaced my phasers. Nerve racking but I was able to do it and retime everything.
Thanks boys!!! Now I understand 😊
This guy is the VAG. Verified Audi God.
Brother love what you are doing wish I could afford you lol respect.
Well done 👍
Wish i had u guys nearer to take care of my A6 C7 CQGB... ❤ ur greatest
You guys are so much better than Audi garages!
Me thinks ...like most dealerships...removing engines is something they are not used too...servicing..ie fast turn over jobs, in my day stripping down engines was within our experience ..
Ohwell...great videos guys..👍
I work in the marine industry, Volvo penta use basically volvo engines modified for sea water cooling, early volvo engines run camshafts where the lobes contact directly with inverted buckets opening the valves, dont understand why some engine manufacturers complicate the valve gear by still using rocker arms after the camshaft ?
Great work 🇦🇺
I think you made use of that beautiful blue box in another video ! Nothing goes to waste :)
For the carbon cleaning does the engine have to be removed from the vehicle? love the content!!
Shocked at what an Audi dealership did. Pity you guys aren't based in Scotland. I'd definitely be a regular customer for service and repair work on my SQ5.
Decirte que acabo de conoceros y por lo que veo el trabajo bien hecho y por personas honradas siempre da buenos resultados, un saludo desde Valencia España.
Wow, thats crazy! Main dealers just aren't trained to repair anymore, just replace.
Good god miss molly. As a fairly new VW owner (22 TAOS). First time German car owner. I think a Landcruiser is in my future.
note on how the injectors look, the one you showed that was pretty seized, that's the compression seal for the injector mating surface to the head orifice, its made out of a teflon material so when the seals wear out over time the compression is lost, right at that point you showed in the video, also as a result there is carbon buildup because of blowby gasses.
Shows you the skill level at Audi
Owner must be in the clouds with this "easy" repair. 😅
Great video. What would you say is the most reliable Audi performance engine for the S and RS range?
Great videos.can I ask what kit do you use for the walnut blasting ? And who makes that leak down tester?
While traveling, my car, S4 B9, became a christmas tree. Went to first Audi dealer, did diag and said: We dont have the knowledge here today, go see the other audi dealers maybe they have. The second dealer said: Leave the car, maybe in 3 weeks it will be repaired 😂 The last dealer, the electro technician identified the issue and fixed it in 2h. So it really depends, and a big thanks to the first dealer to be honest, and the third to have saved my vacation, but a big #@! to the second one...
Very good work , where do you engine
parts from ?
Thought you had forgotten us the viewers. Great videos always. What has happened with the previous cars ?
😀 some left some are here
Breh I’d cry if I seen my car like that… I wanted to get s4/rs4 avant but after watching you for around a year I don’t think my sanity or pockets could be prepared if something this drastic happened 😂🫡
Too bad I’m all the way in Florida USA.. I would LOVE to take my S5 to you guys for future service!
If I was the guy I’ll ask for a claim.
That’s isn’t cheap to fix or replace the new engine.
The guy made a good explanation the problem and the dealer.
I had an Audi S2 -91 year with the 220 hp 5 cyl engine and 300,000 km. Turbo was the only problem in that car and brakes of course. Now i have Kia Stinger 2018 and 84,000 km!
Not Audi, but I have had an experience like this with another manufacturer. Had to take my car for a recall , nearest dealer , 10 miles. Poor skill level, poor customer service , poor knowledge . After I had to diagnose the car following on from this, they did rectify the issues ( after they said the car came in like it!) The recall came out again , went to the next nearest dealer , a good 100 miles , what a difference, absolutely top of their game. There are definitely differences in skill levels out there .
Sounds like Mercedes with the airbag recall?
Dang I wish I could send my old S4 with you guys, I'm from the US and I've struggled to find a good mechanic, the last one literally blew my engine.
Same, I’m willing to travel states if I need to
you ARE the best of the best. Let's keep it real. You KNOW your SHHHHHHHH and can sort out 99.99% of issues. Period
Being an 2017 Audi S5 B9 Sportback owner on 45000 miles this rocker arm issue is scary....
I have the exact same car and miles lol. I'm considering selling it after these video's, seems like a ticking time bomb and £4k just to service the rocker arms is scary 🥴
My car was in Audi dealer 2 months back for warranty work I did ask the 'Service Advisor's to ask the mechanics or check the Audi bulletin regarding this (which I also emailed her on) got blanked. So will email Audi direct on this issue and will use these video as evidence of the underlying issue with the rocker arms.
@@masmahmood You can try but like the mechanic in the video says, Audi revised the rockers arms hush hush so there won't be a bulletin. Seems like it's our issue now 😢
@@off9999 will have to bide my time and see what occurs, my car engine/gearbox is all stock so if it occurs will have to argue my way (just dreading the time they change the oil and say the have found flakes of metal in the filter or oil) honestly what the point in getting your car maintenance done by them if they cant honour warranty.
B9 S5 owner here with 60K miles and unfortunately I have the rocker arm issue. My car is booked in with the Vag Technic guys for next month
I'D never be worrying to buy an audi or a vw group car if we had u in my country
Really is a top end garage this, there is definitely not many with your knowledge out there….
Quality techs and I like the way you're not scared to talk about the money side of the work.A but too far away from me unfortunately .
Hello guys, love your content!
Off topic from this video, but here goes:
Considering buying an 2019 A6 C8 45TDI, 37.000 miles.
Do these engines have the same issues as previously 3.0tdi engines, with things like timing chain issues and coolant leakes?
Or are there other things in particular i should watch out for?
Thank you!
Scary Audi doesn’t have the correct tools! And just guess your engine is filled with metal shards. I guess that’s why they have earned the title MAIN STEALERS much better to go to an independent that has pride in their work! Such as yourself. It’s nice to see such service it’s very rare these days. I have a lot of respect for you and your channel. I would definitely bring my Audi to you if I had one. 👊👊👊
Awesome, from a new subscriber! With normal maintenance done for either B8/9 S4 or 3.0TDI engines, which in your opinion is more reliable ad a high mileage unit? Thanks!
What’s your opinion on that new oil what’s vag group using (0w20) ?Isn’t that a bit too thin especially for sports cars like this. Keep up the amazing work what u and your crew doing 😎
0w20 isn’t thinner it has a better ability to flow
@@LeeBrowne-rn1iz yeah exactly, flows better because it’s thinner then let’s say 10w60…
