  • Welcome to another video.
This time the same old story about the S4 B9 . A bit of a special video , because we received this car directly from the dealership after several months standing there . Owner if this S4 was really disappointed with a bill from Audi for finding the problem . Once he decided he had enough the car came to us as a non runner and the parts from the engine were in the back . If that's not enough , while stripping the engine down at dealers , they manage to damage some parts and after all this they advise the owner he needs a new engine ....
Will we be able to fix this one ? Or Audi was right and we need a new engine?
More in the video, thanks for watching !

please book your car in advance , usually booking time is two months in advance

Please tell me that the owner of the B9 is taking that shady dealer to court! Corporate needs to be involved at a minimum. I’ve seen you guys take probably close to a hundred engines apart and I’ve never seen you treat customer equipment like that. Glad they were able to get you guys to help.

Looking at the work, I really dont believe its from a Audi dealer. at 5 mins, he says something as absurd as, The dealer must of not had the tool and they used a pliers or something. VW and Audi could make their part and make a car that is somewhat reliable. Can't have cars with 140k needing a full rebuild due to faulty chain tensioners or oiling issues, plus electrical issues.

The Honda dealer I go to is pricey, but they typically do a good job, are knowledgeable, and use the proper tools. That said, I do have to pressure/prod them into doing routine maintenance that they deem unnecessary. Like changing the coolant after 60K miles. Doing valve lash adjustment, doing oilchanges at half the interval, that sort of thing. I'm very picky, and know the details of the car/engine, maybe because they know it changes the relationship a bit? I dont know. That said, they also dont refuse service when they know the car is remapped.
I actually have more bad experiences, and thousands of euro's of wasted money, on several independent shops.

The 1st recall letter wasn't so bad and I got a rental but by the 4th recall letter, it was starting to get annoying and also they weren't helping with rentals and they suddenly changed the terms and conditions of their extended warranty to not cover rentals. I ended up using my insurance for a rental and they approved it( thank you GEICO BTW). Car was great after I kept it with an independent VAG shop in town and it has been a god send. Great video - after 30 yrs of running fast Audi's - mostly tuned S8's - I only ever used the dealerships when the cars were under warranty - as soon as they fell out of warranty I used a good specialist for servicing and repairs - like you, they have more knowledge in a small team than the larger teams in the dealerships. They care more and charge far less. I think a second lesson is to treat this type of car like an aircraft and research a preemptive maintenance plan based on what typically goes wrong - especially if, like the example here, failure could cause very expensive damage. I recently did this for my wife's BMW 5 series (520d) and was surprised at how many things posed a risk (e.g. the plastic inlet manifold can fail and drop the butterfly valves into the cylinders.. When we (preemptively) took it off (at 100k) one of them was near failure and only a few 1000 miles off collapse.

note on how the injectors look, the one you showed that was pretty seized, that's the compression seal for the injector mating surface to the head orifice, its made out of a teflon material so when the seals wear out over time the compression is lost, right at that point you showed in the video, also as a result there is carbon buildup because of blowby gasses.

Not Audi, but I have had an experience like this with another manufacturer. Had to take my car for a recall , nearest dealer , 10 miles. Poor skill level, poor customer service , poor knowledge . After I had to diagnose the car following on from this, they did rectify the issues ( after they said the car came in like it!) The recall came out again , went to the next nearest dealer , a good 100 miles , what a difference, absolutely top of their game. There are definitely differences in skill levels out there .

I have the exact same car and miles lol. I'm considering selling it after these video's, seems like a ticking time bomb and £4k just to service the rocker arms is scary 🥴

My car was in Audi dealer 2 months back for warranty work I did ask the 'Service Advisor's to ask the mechanics or check the Audi bulletin regarding this (which I also emailed her on) got blanked. So will email Audi direct on this issue and will use these video as evidence of the underlying issue with the rocker arms.

@@masmahmood You can try but like the mechanic in the video says, Audi revised the rockers arms hush hush so there won't be a bulletin. Seems like it's our issue now 😢

@@off9999 will have to bide my time and see what occurs, my car engine/gearbox is all stock so if it occurs will have to argue my way (just dreading the time they change the oil and say the have found flakes of metal in the filter or oil) honestly what the point in getting your car maintenance done by them if they cant honour warranty.

Scary Audi doesn’t have the correct tools! And just guess your engine is filled with metal shards. I guess that’s why they have earned the title MAIN STEALERS much better to go to an independent that has pride in their work! Such as yourself. It’s nice to see such service it’s very rare these days. I have a lot of respect for you and your channel. I would definitely bring my Audi to you if I had one. 👊👊👊

My wife’s 2020 s5 sportback here in the US occasionally has some tiny flakes in the oil filter and housing but has been much less or none… happens randomly… you said that’s usually from the cam adjusters and not really harmful? It is becoming common here and this is the second or third time I’ve heard that..

Most Audis and more so the S and RS models all have some sort of common flaw. I’ve had quite a few and the only one I’ve had issues with is the one I bought with my heart instead of head. Car had not been serviced regularly and I dare say abused from new.
Currently I have an F87 M2 and my missus has had two F21 M135i over the last 7 years. Again people say BMW are unreliable. Simply treating the car well goes a long way. Changing oils, filters and fluids sooner than the set interval or not using LL service schedule helps.
I’ve had varying results with the two Audi dealerships in my area. One is less than impressive and one is fantastic.

The rocker arms are clearly a bit of a time bomb and a pretty expensive service item to resolve. I guess Audi, like other manufacturers, will not admit to a design change to resolve a design flaw, as they would be faced with additional claims. I wonder in the USA if customers would approach this with a law suit. In the UK we just suck it up though.
