Early on, yes kinda sucks BUT I like the fact I don't have to talk to siri or grab my phone to get a simple response. I think people are being over critical about this product and it s potential and at worst, you will be able to jail break it in the future and use it for whatever you want. I'm really interested in learning how to integrate voice functionality with an open-source model for TTS and STT. Essentially, I'm hoping to see a viable open-source voice assistant come to fruition. It seems like we're getting really close compared to a year ago! As a bonus, it would be amazing if it could run efficiently on a standard PC (without a GPU or just an iGPU) or through an API like Groq. Please make it happen!😁

  • @first-thoughtgiver-of-will2456

    using AI copilots hosted on the cloud is like using an IDE you can only access remotely with fixed plugins. the future of copilots is local with some degree of specificity, whether thats fine tuning on datasets and to custom metrics or custom RAG/context injection. When Im coding I care mainly about understanding of my code first and code in general second. The best Ive gotten so far is an ambiguous "we train on your code snippets" and "project wide". that level of ambiguity is almost worse than useless when relying on tools for software development.

    • @paul1979uk2000
      @paul1979uk2000 Pƙed 23 dny

      I think that's going to be the case for a lot of A.I. use, especially as they become more useful in a lot more areas, as I can't imagine many people and companies wanting data going back and forth to the online server, as it's easy to see how that can be a security and privacy risk as we have no idea what they are doing with that data.
      Locally run models are likely the future as they are getting good enough and will continue to get better, without having any of the security and privacy issues, and they also have the advantage of not being as restrictive and can be fine-tuned for your given tasks.
      Anyway, if this was just a year ago, I would likely say it was unrealistic for locally run models to compete with the online ones, but with how quickly A.I. is developing, especially open source small models, it's becoming less of an issue that for a lot of cases, we can use a locally run model.

    I appreciate the effort made by these companies to try prolong the time in which developers are still..... well.... human. But I think the writing has been on the wall for quite some time. No company in their right mind will hire someone as a Dev when the right AI product comes along that makes us utterly obsolete. Somewhat ironically, the person who develops that app, will be the developer who puts all other developers including themselves..... out of work.

  • @rlfr
    @rlfr Pƙed 23 dny +1

    I feel so blessed actually, to be among the last batch of developers to actually understand code. Maybe that will be outdated soon too, like writing machine code, then assembler code, then higher and higher levels of abstraction. But now Devs will review code. When is the "don't need to actually review code anymore" coming ?

    • @WhyteHorse2023
      @WhyteHorse2023 Pƙed 23 dny

      I think we're already there. It's just an iterative process of going back and forth with the LLM to get what you want coded. The upside is now you don't need a whole dev team to make a site like kickstarter, facebook, twitter, etc. But if you want to invent something new... like when bitcoin first came out... you're going to have to get your hands dirty.

    with the instructions: "If you don't know the answer, just say that you don't know, don't try to make up an answer" - which it frequently does, it relied: "Sorry, I can't predict my response length."

    My thought: the emergence of AI should serve to cause us to focus on human intelligence. All the hopes and fears surrounding AI also apply to HI. The future of the human species relies on the human belief system. The human belief system is based upon unsubstantiated opinion in many cases rather than being knowledge based. That is a problem.

    "Let society tell us what it collectively wants from the technology" - Sama 15:12
    Um, okay... Society wants all the money that OpenAI will make and have all of OAI's IP be completely open sourced.
    Take a guess what Sama's lawyers would say to that?
    Dude is grifter par excellance.
    At least EM has engineering chops to try hard tech of energy.
    Sama just rode the YC huckster wave.

    When you’re an experienced programmer you’ll find the easiest way to think about problems is by using the computer language you’re working with - I can’t imagine trying to define a programme by using natural language - it would be kinda of like using ‘structured English’ which was never detailed enough to define the nitty gritty. But you’ll need experienced programmers to Shepard this stuff, and stop it writing a load of poor quality unmaintainable crap. I can’t see it going down well in the serious coding community.

      If you’re a coder you’ll know that when you get into “the flow”, you are thinking and coding “as one”, you make decisions that will help you down the line, you known which parts of the code are going to be likely changed a lot, so you take care to make those parts easy to change. If you know, you know. My experience of coding assistants is they are only good for laying down boilerplate code - then they just get in the way with incorrect or bad suggestions that have to be read and disregarded - all spoiling ‘the flow’ I mentioned.

      @@tollington9414 now imagine compartmentalising all that in a modular system you can then upgrade with a prompt. I am a coder and ive gone from maybe 100,000 a year, to over 10million. my logic is still there I still feel the flow now, when walking too. ill chat to an AI about the problem walking doggo. get a spark send it to the system. when im home its waiting for me to demo! how is that not better? I still program myself but feels like wasted effort these days personally.
