James' close friend died next to him in the kosovo war. It was james' responsibility to take all the dog tags and photos of his friends wife and letters to his friends wife back to her. He was the one who was the bearer of bad news and it tore him apart. Hence he was literally carrying his friend home back to his wife through the photos tags and letters. Such a beautiful song.
Sorry but the song is about addiction. Look it up on meaning of songs. James blunt carry you home. But I love that he made it like a war story. Listen to lyrics. It’s about a girl suffering addiction and how no matter how low she gets she knows he will always carry her home and not judge her.

This was so beautiful. As always, he really knows how to tell his story and share his (and often our) deepest thoughts and emotions. You hit the nail on the head. I thought, how could he not hold her and try and make her feel better... then I realized, that is not what SHE needed at the time; and somewhere, in his soul, he knew this. I will think twice when consoling a friend from now on. Just listen and be present. Witness and acknowledge the pain and be there. Damn this was powerful. In my darkest days I never knew what I wanted from others, everything they said felt like just platitudes and I really just wanted to be alone so as to not hear their pity or disappointment and even their love. Why is it so hard to feel love when you feel so much shame. I think shame, more than any other feeling, hits the deepest. Anyway, blah blah blah. Your insight is always spot on and not just words. It comes from a place of knowing and feeling and that really resonates. Thank you.

I was one of the six to carry my grandmother's casket. I keep thinking of this song when I remember it. She was a very religious person, but also very private about it. I sang "Nearer My God To Thee" at the memorial.
Anyway, to me that's what it means. Carrying my grandmother home to God.

Song always hits so hard man. When I lost my mum, this song always remembered me of her. I didn't grieve for her and dealt with it in my sleep. Song was always able to break through.
I suggest 2 songs from him No bravery this is about his time in the army/war and the greatest he decided to give all profits to the NHS
Being there myself with lots in my life bringing me down, this song both makes me sad and uplifted. Simple as that. I smile, I laugh, I cry, but I might not show you all until I trust you, that's a valuable knowledge for anyone. This song puts that in perspective.
A lot of James' songs are about events in his life. Autobiographical. And you can hear the pain in his voice. He sings about real life and it can be hard to listen to. And yes, some things you can't fix, just be there to share the pain.
Some times the biggest impact u can have for someone is just to be their, to listen if they want to chat or just sit with them.

I realized long ago many singers are poets. James is as are Bono and Springsteen to name just a couple with very simple yet emotionally powerful lyrics.
The only way to help someone, anyone going through something is to say or do what they need, even if that is doing nothing.
I’m currently going through being completely overwhelmed and honestly feeling on the edge of sanity because I feel I have no control over any aspect of my life.
What do I need? What I need is to feel some modicum of control and lessening of burden. That’s not going to happen for a long time. What would help me from others? The most anyone could say or do is ‘I’m here if you need anything.’ My situation is different from the next person’s. But I can say that is probably the best anyone can say or do no matter the person or situation - the one going through whatever is the one to determine what’s needed. Sometimes they won’t know either.

I REALLY, REALLY wish you would do something about that opening in the curtain that constantly has the sunlight in the screen. It is very distracting for the viewer.
