    Her wife lived in uk and he was captain so had to return many letters and dog tags back to many his song was so beautiful and representative of how many people don’t realise woman also die in war not all soldiers are male. Women fight beside men and equally die.

    Man, I have been a James Blunt fan for 10 years and believe me, if there is anyone in the industry with the ability to make fun of himself, it is James Blunt, and yeah, it is very common for him to make fun of "You're Beautiful" in interviews and even in his lyrics, this guy literally made a documentary called "One Brit Wonder", what I want to say is that everything is fine with your past reaction, I enjoyed it a lot and those who were offended don't know the meaning of it humor from James, Greetings from Mexico

      @ReactionsThatRock  Před 2 měsíci +3

      I appreciate the kind words! People take things way too seriously these days. I’m happy to hear James is a level headed guy with a sense of humor.
      It’s still odd to me that I couldn’t stand him 20 years ago and I really like him now. I guess I grew up just a bit.

      @@ReactionsThatRock I felt EXACTLY the same way about that first song... then I saw all of these and now am a huge James Blunt fan. I even went back and listened to "You're Beautiful" and now I like that one, too -- who knew?
      If you want a great sample of his sense of humor, here's an interview of him by a famous British humorist talk show host: czcams.com/video/AVJfC_UtnOc/video.htmlsi=rgyaS30fUICHGNfb

    As someone from northern NJ right outside of NYC .... where we often get described as obnoxious, etc ... I appreciate hearing from a jerk. Kind of feels like home. I really appreciated your comments about the song. I usually don't like "emotional' songs - default to Funk or Indie but the way James Blunt really does go right to the core of really emotional issues ... forcing all of us to acknowledge their reality ... that's an unbelievable strength in today's music world. And his voice and musicianship seems to match his poetic soul

      I spent a lot of my youth in Boston. Make of that what you will. 🤣😎
      I also spent a short time in Edison, NJ. Not as jerky as one might expect based on stereotypes.
      I used to avoid emotion (and Folk / Indie) but I’m getting older and it’s so odd to see my tastes change. I’m really digging Vermont style folk and James Blunt. Never thought that would be the case… like… ever.

    The reason you love his voice is its full of emotion. To get the full effect is to watch his concert videos. So much better.this man has gone thru he'll and back. His music is therapy to him and others.

      @@ReactionsThatRock The above poster is correct. This song was inspired by an incident that JB witnessed. The soldier was not under his command or even British. Hence the reference to lost daughter and "under the stars and stripes" as the lost soldier was US Forces. I don't believe he was actually present at the incident but he certainly saw the repatriation to the United States. Immaterial to an extant as it is certainly applicable to all lost servicemen/women. Interesting how our tastes in music change over time is it not?

    I get the feeling that she had already received the official notification of his death. I think that was why she seems depressed and the line about no one having anything to say, because no one ever knows what to say and especially if you are around a lot of other military spouses, they’re just relieved it’s not them. I think he is bringing the last letter from her husband, and other personal effects.

    • @ReactionsThatRock
      @ReactionsThatRock  Před 3 měsíci

      That makes a whole lot of sense. I spent the first half of the song thinking he was the one hurting from losing a good friend in battle and thought it was showing distance between him and his girl as a result. Took me longer than it probably should have to realize she was the one hurting.

      @ReactionsThatRock it was James job to collect all the dog tags of his fallen comrades and return them home. This is very much art imitating life, the soldier was a female and in a gay relationship he returned her dog tags to her wife.
