In a bind, I went to Walmart to buy an Everstart Max.
All they had was an Everstart Plus.
$30 cheaper.
Took a chance.
6 years later and not one hiccup.
😊☺️😊
6 years is good, I’m happy with 5
Thanks
Better than me. I bought one for my Charger and my Mustang. Both didn't last a year.
@@CallMeMilenkoWould never buy a Mustang and even less of a chance that I would buy a Charger. Shop at Walmart all the time, and I just replaced the battery in my 2010 Lexus ES350 with an Everstart Maxx. I think YOUR vehicles were the problem, not the Johnson Controls manufactured batteries.
@@cliftongreene5318 Both batteries were replaced with batteries from Autozone. Haven't had issues.
I threw a $50 Walmart Value battery into my Camry three years ago. I didnt expect it to last this long. I just tested it with my battery tester and it still tests as a good battery. Whenever the time comes, I will buy another one.
I have a Interstate and Walmart battery both bought 5 years ago. Both needs to be replaced soon. The interstate tests lower for CCA available than the WW battery. I will buy 2 new ones from WW.
Walmart battery in my truck since 2019.
Walmart batteries are very good batteries. I have the Ever start maxx in all 3 of my vehicles and I have never had a problem. Great video Danny good information 👍
Appreciate your feedback, thanks for watching
I just found your channel when I did a Google search because I needed to know if Walmart batteries were any good. I feel way more confident in getting one from there now and you, sir, now have another subscriber! I think what you’re doing is not only helpful but VERY necessary. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us! 😊
So glad to have you here, I appreciate your support
Have a Walmart lawn mower battery in a zero turn, 330 CCA over two years old, test at 339CCA yesterday. I maintain it on a battery maintainer year around.
Wish my shop was as nice as yours. I appreciate your slow explanation of all the steps. So often in these DIY videos the demonstrator talks a mile a minute. Good job. Thanks
Wow, thank you!
I inherited a group of EverStart deep cycle batteries, even though they were abused I have been blown away by their durability and ability to hold a charge. Some are over six years old.
Another home run Danny! FYI, my last 51R was close to $50.00 cheaper at Costco here in San Diego versus Walmart.
I paid $166, I did not shop around, great information
Costco Interstate batteries are made by Johnson Controls and unfortunately have moved manufacturing to Mexico, and owners have complained that they no longer are the same quality. Walmart batteries are also made by Johnson controls or Exide depending on the model, but Walmart offers a longer warranty at 5 years.
Have an Everstart maxx that is going for over five years now with no issues. Found it interesting that batteries with caps seem to last longer than sealed maintenance free ones. Thank you for your tips on battery maintenance.
Appreciate you sharing your experience with the Everstart maxx,, great information 👍🏼
Same lasted 5 years and 2 months on the dot the only battery I will ever buy
It is -17 outside today in South Dakota, my interstate battery decided it was time to exit the chat at 10 PM on a work night. It worked fine prior, but the extreme temps were a wrap for it. In a pinch, i had to stop at Walmart before they closed to get one. All they had was the Value version in stock, but it did get my car running in this weather. I will keep this updated to let you all know how it holds up. I plan to take full advantage of the warranty if I have to, I hope I can get a couple years out of it and provide some good feedback 🙏
It is the 24F size, it cost 69 dollars plus a core fee of 12 dollars. Definitely cant complain about the price. Yes, there are better batteries out there. Most cost double or triple what this cost. It seems like warranties parallel the prices, double the price, double the warranty. Triple the price, triple the warranty. At this point, i see it as i paid 1/2-1/3 what any other battery would run me in this size class. If i have to replace it sooner, whatever
Keep me updated, that’s freezing, stay warm 👍🏼
Thanks for the video. I have been using Walmart Value line car batteries exclusively for the last 10 years, all of them lasted more than 6 years.
Great video Danny. I just put an WMT EverStart battery in my 2019 Honda Passport-4 year warranty.
Good choice!
I was thinking about putting in a AGM battery, I think the group 35 might fit in my 2008 civic si tray maybe just bend out hold down tabs a little, possibly switch to a strap instead of hooks? Have you looked at upgrading battery?
On my 2008 Civic Si I trip the hood latch so the factory alarm etc all goes to sleep when I check parasitic draw, not sure if necessary it seemed like it mattered ?
Does Walmart still sell those batteries with the servicable caps? The last time I looked (a year ago) they'd switched to a different supplier with sealed tops (walmart's web pages still show the old, Johnson Controls batteries with the caps. But, when you go to the store they're not the same.). I'm wondering if you reviewed a battery nobody can get now?
I hope I'm wrong. I liked the original (capped) batter. I don't trust the sealed ones because I typically had to add distilled water twice a year. If I didn't, it would go down to the plates, and then that's the end. I don't think the sealed "maint free" batteries can prevent that can they?
Nice video boss, thanks!
Appreciate you watching
Great video you did a great job

I've got three Everstart Maxx 29DC batteries hooked to a small solar setup. The oldest will be 8 years old in Feb 2024. Had it load tested and its still strong.
Impressive, thanks for adding
Mine worked 15 years everstartmaxx
Even my genuine original toyota 24f lasted 15 years on highlander
@@alekmartin9999 15 years? That’s CRAZY long.
great video , switching gears now , I could not find a video on how to replace the power outlet aka cigarette lighter in my 2009 honda civic , I did get it out and replaced it but it was difficult , I bent it and pulled it out with pliers , I found other videos on different cars and I found videos on where the fuse is etc... but not how to take it out and replace it on the 09 civic
there is a special tool that makes it easy
Going on 6 years with a Maxx and I didn't take care of it at times but now I keep a solar charger on it. Stronger than ever. 💪🔋👀
Actually your original battery was discharged and needed to be charged to 100% before any other tests are valid. At around 12.34 volts your state of charge is around 72%, so the 9.6 volts threshold loaded voltage drop only applies to a fully charged 12.7 volt battery. Your original battery probably had many years of life left in it. Johnson Controls manufactures the flooded acid batteries for Walmart and many other brands. Not one single test can determine if a battery is 'bad'. You needed to also do a internal resistance test, that is another more telling test as to a batteries condition. I currently have three Johnson Controls batteries and two of them (Sears Die Hard's) are 12 years old & 15 years old, plus I have a Walmart Everstart at the 9 year mark, and all three are still going strong, no issues.
Tip for long battery life, flooded acid batteries want to be stored at 100% and no less, so all mine sit on battery maintainers when not in use, any less than 100% and sulfation will start taking place.
Thanks for adding this comment, lots of good information 👍🏼, I’ll stand by my battery diagnosis, concerning a tow truck cost more than a battery replacement
Great points, I agree that sulfation is the killer of most batteries. What is your opinion on using battery desulfators such as a Pulsetech PowerPulse passive desulfator that you leave connected to your battery for increased battery life? I also am just a customer of Pulsetech.
@@josemedeiros007I don’t have any experience using them, its very interesting and would love to learn more about it, if it works, I’m all for it 👍🏼
@@josemedeiros007 I am not familiar with Pulsetech. Keeping your battery fully charged to 100% is the best thing you can do to increase battery life. Sulfation occurs when the battery has been in a prolonged state of discharge, So try and avoid storage below 2.07V/cell 12.42 volts.
Just about every battery maintainer out there on its first step sends a pulsed current and voltage as a desulfation step. There are two types of sulfation, reversible (or soft sulfation), and permanent (or hard sulfation). Sending a Pulsing charge to the battery will lower the sulfation on a healthy battery, but it cannot effectively reverse the condition once it is present. The other method that I am aware of is sending an overcharge to an already fully charged battery (this will heat the battery up to 122-140°F) for about 24 hours to help to dissolve the sulfate crystals. Applying pulses and or inducing an overcharge will harm the battery by promoting grid corrosion. There is really no simple and easy methods to measure and remove sulfation. Best thing to do is just to put a 100% fully saturated charge (once every few weeks for a 14-16 hour minimum) so sulfation is kept at a minimum. All my batteries are kept on a charger when not in use as they are not daily drivers.
@@JT-ov2yr Thanks for the information. Pulse Tech claims to use a patented Frequency to gently desulfate a battery and extend it's life up to three times, I don't think it uses voltage spikes like a Noco and Ctek charger uses. I use a Pulsetech PowerPulse passive desulfator on my BMW battery for the past 3 years.
Subscribed to get your knowledge on my 09Honda Civic and hope you reach your 10K goal by your birthday 🎉 Happy early 🎂 Birthday!
I think I'm going to make that 10k goal,
Currently I have the cheapest 2 year battery from Wal-Mart in two different cars. One is close to 5 years old, the other is a little over 5 years old. Usually those batteries go just past the 2 year warranty, at least the previous ones I've had. But because of Cvid and me doing less driving, it stretched out pretty far. I drive both at least 10 to 15 miles a week just to keep the batteries up. But yeah those 2 or 3 year batteries last pretty close to the age they're rated. Most times I go slightly past the age rated if I drive almost every day. Incredibly accurate warranty/replacement rating.
That’s amazing, I’m curious how them batteries would do on the crank test, would they stay above 9.6 volts, great way to determine your health of the battery czcams.com/video/0oK2IqmUtTk/video.htmlsi=_aKBiCmfqo1JsLLs
I purchased an Everstart Maxx in April 2023. I am posting this at the end of March 2024. This 35/630 battery barely starts my car now. I am going in to Walmart tomorrow for a replacement. I have already tried to charge it twice with my charger. Yesterday I charged for 10 hours at 2amps, and still it wasn't done. I went out today and barely started leaving home, barely started very slowly, coming home. And today I am charging again. It has been charging for 2 hours so far, and it is at 1.5 amp at 2 amp setting. Time to pick up a new one tomorrow.
Everstart Maxx 124R in a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3l, dated 4/19 (5 yrs ago). Still starting OK- took to Walmart Auto Center, they load tested it and found CCA of 650 (original was 700)-they told me to come back when it starts to have problems! I later checked minimum voltage on starting- 10.6. I will definitely replace with another Walmart battery- current price is $140 with free installation. (The car is driven about 6 K /yr in NY.)
I have bought EverStart Walmart batteries for years and they out lasted other car batteries. My last EverStart battery I had in my 1989 Honda Civic LX lasted about 1 year longer than it should have. It was a 5 year battery that lasted almost 6 years! I am extremely impressed by how well EverStart Walmart batteries last and how cheap they are! Good quality batteries for a great cheapest price over all other batteries out there!
Great information, thank you for sharing
Two things Dan:
1. Always use your index finger for pointing... 😂
2. Title should be ...Car Batteries Any...
Really good video! I buy almost everything at Walmart. Mabil1 full synthetic is cheaper at Walmart than the Auto Parts Stores. The Mobil1 filter is about half price vs the Auto Parts Stores
👍
I have no idea why I always use that finger when pointing, maybe because it’s longer, I’ve had many comments on that, appreciate your comment
I had a $50 Walmart battery in my F150 and it lasted almost four years. I replaced it with the cheapest Walmart battery available now, $65. I also bought two Walmart deep cycle marine batteries for my travel trailer.
That’s crazy, lucky you
I live in michigan, with the cold winters. What CCA do you recommend? I have a 06 Civic EX.
No less then 500cca due to the size, that’s probably the standard
600 with ether, 850 without
Theyre good enough! I buy the 3 year battery and just replace it after 2 years and 364 days, then I always have a fresh one. My WM does not have a shop so they dont test anything.
Lucky you, now that's how to work the system
That is shady as all hell, but I like it
I need some advice what to do. I have mixed feelings about Walmart batteries. On a Dodge Avenger a 70$ battery was put. I was shocked for a big 4 door sedan a battery this cheap existed. After putting it on it ran fine about a month. Then it wouldn’t start had to jump it and battery light stayed on. One of the managers checked it and apologized and swapped it out quickly. Then another month later it did the same thing. Had it checked and a regular employee said he tested it and it was fine even though the battery light was again on and they refused to change it out. After driving it some more the battery light went off. Well right now on a 2013 Ford Escape a Walmart battery is all I can afford and I really need this car running asap been without a car awhile now. Has a 2 year warranty when I think the dodge one had only 1 year. I really don’t wanna end up in some sketchy boat as dodge. Keep in mind ford has lots of electronics and navigation etc. is it a bad idea where I should hold out longer for a better battery ?
I have a couple of videos on charging systems and testing for parasitic draws, you'll need to watch them, pay attention to the diode test, parasitic draw test and charging test, good luck
Good review and demo but your battery was not fully charged to 12.6 volts when you ran a CCA load test. Wamart Batteries are either made by Exide or Johnson controls depending on the model. I would have tried using a Battery desulfator on the battery first, I use a Pusletech PowerPulse passive battery desulfator on my 2001 BMW battery for the past three years, but desulfation could take a week or more. Noco Genius 5 and 10 chargers have a repair mode for heavily desulfated batteries. Pusletech claims that using their patented frequency to desulfate a battery can extend the life up to three times as long.
Wow great information, thanks for sharing this
A Walmart Everstart Maxx lasted 9 years in my 93 Toyota pickup. Just replaced the 6 year old original battery in my Nissan car with an Everstart Maxx.
I have been using everstart batteries for a long time and am well satisfied.
thanks for sharing
My 2017 INFINITI QX50 battery just died. It was 7 years old (original Nissan battery). All the batteries I looked at online were only warranted for 3 years maybe 4 years max.
The Nissan batteries are warranted for 84 months which I think is outstanding.
I got the battery jumped and drove it to the INFINITI dealer for another Nissan battery. At $199.99 that's a great price for a battery with a 7 year warranty.
The best (other branded) batteries I could buy were well over $200.00
I don't believe walmart has a 5 year warranty on this model of battery anymore - its a shame - still held up well for me.
Yes, I believe you’re correct, I only saw a 3 year
With a battery I purchased from Autozone in 2019, it advertised a 5 year warranty, but after 3 years they only refund you a portion of the price depending on how many months are left. I looked at the same battery and they are now advertising a 3 year warranty, but still have the same warranty policy of refunding a portion of the price up to five years. Maybe that is the same with the EverStart? I’m guessing they weren’t allowed to continue advertising a 5 year warranty because it mislead people the believe they would get a free replacement through the full 5 years.
For the Audi Q5 2.0t the H7 is the same battery as the Diehard H7 from Advance Auto that is $254 vs $179 at Walmart.
good information, appreciate you adding
100% of my Walmart batteries, Maxx R124, worked past 6 years.
The current battery was made 4/2018 and starts the car a little slower.
Unfortunately, the new batteries have 3-year warranties. The old ones were 5-year.
If your battery has removable caps, remove them and add distilled water to the lower edge of the cap hole for each hole.
Most folks never check the water level.
I have a Walmart battery for almost 10 years and it finally gave up 2 days ago. I have just replaced another one yesterday after Walmart delivered it to me in 1 day (free delivery).
Good information
My WY based F250 6.0 just had its two G65 Everstart Maxx replaced . . . They made it 2.5 years 😐😐
Shopped around for a size 51R battery with 500 CCA and a 3 year warranty. Walmart’s battery cost $50 less than a regular flood battery and $150 less than a AGM battery all with same 3 year warranty.
Good information
The standard for good is so low these days. OEM toyota battery last for 15 years outside and still works fine.
Aftermarket battery that sits in a garaged car on a battery tender every month barely last 7 years.
Yes I agree, today’s standard are questionable
I've had to replace the Walmart battery 3 times in 2 1/2 years the first time they charged me $50 the difference between the price when I first bought it and the price when it died. They gave me a new receipt so when the second one died and I had to go to another Walmart they covered the 3 year warranty but they couldn't get the warranty to go through on the computer so they processed it as a refund and I had to buy a new battery and pay new taxes. That one died and when I went to replace it the clerks couldn't get the paperwork to go through and so they sent me to another store 12 miles away where they told me it tested as good at the front counter but I told them it tested bad at the other store so they took it to their charger/tester in back and after testing were able to replace it. I've spent at least 12 hours sitting and waiting for battery testing. I don't think I will get another battery from Walmart just because of the runaround trying to get warranty service. Unfortunately the company that manufacturers Walmart batteries makes about 90% of all lead acid car batteries in the US including most auto parts store batteries so where can you get a good one. Where was the federal trade commission when this monopoly happened?
Where does the 9.6V value come from? And the 25mA?
That’s the standard, automobile manufacturers technical manuals
@@dannysdiygarage Thx. I did not know the source.
Last 3 years, I've had to replace the car battery from Wal-Mart. . Still under warranty, of course, but it's irtitating
Just bought one the other day. Make sure you check the date and anything older than 2 months don't bother. Otherwise you're already buying a battery that is depleted and not as fresh as it could be thereby reducing the lifespan.
Great tip, thanks for adding your thoughts
Use a solar battery maintainer, that has overcharging protection, in the OBD-II port and your car battery will last even longer.
great addition
Which one is it?
Walmart every start batteries used to be so cheap. I bought one for my truck a couple months ago. They have went up in prices. I bought one today, it was a hundred and sixty six dollars with a Core fee😮
I paid the same and was also price shocked , I found out later Costco is about $30 cheaper for same type of battery
@@dannysdiygarage I've been hearing that the Costco batteries are lower quality nowadays. Not sure if that's true, though.
Seems like everything is lower quality nowadays, time will tell, I replace a Costco battery in my Element and a Walmart battery in my Civic with in a month from each other, these are the same battery type, I’ll let you know which fail first in a video hopefully years from now
My 2007 Honda CR-V’s WalMart EverStart battery recently died after 3.5 years of use. My 2012 VW Jetta with same brand battery lasted the same. Just sold the Honda last week. What a great car. In the family since new. My daughter’s 2017 Hyundai Elantra GT’s battery also died after the same 3.5 years and was a Hyundai factory battery. I agree the WalMart ones used to last longer. And, yes, I also priced batteries and both the Honda & Hyundai got the less expensive battery from Costco. They will most likely last the same 3.5 years, give or take a few months. They will last just long enough to pass the warranty period. I also recall batteries lasting about 5 years.
I just had ever start battery warrantied with Walmart. The battery for my car was $119 in July of 2021. It was $183 now in 2023. Good thing it was warranted... I called Costco out of curiosity and their price is $109. Would save enough to cover a year membership plus $20.
My Walmart everstart battery had a 6 year warranty. It lasted 6 years 4 months.
Pro tip, most batteries are made by only a handful of manufacturers and are just relabeled with different brand logos
Thanks for adding this
Sometimes they even use the same exact case. The duralast batteries and Everstart batteries appear to use the same case. The specs are the same. The only obvious difference is the label. Walmart charges less for them, and on the platinum one, they give a much better warranty.
@@richardyao9012 love the interaction, appreciate you adding knowledge

Walmart batteries are the exact same as autozone advance o Riley’s etc. the only difference is the label and Walmart has better warranty and more affordable
how much is that fluke meter.
I put a list of meters in the description, the model 88 is the one I have, I don’t know if they still have that one
For what it's worth. My 100 month Honda replacement battery is still in my car, ten years later. Doing its thing. About to replace it. I've pushed my luck far enough.
Yes don’t push it, a bad battery causes other electrical components to work harder and can cause extra strain on the alternator
@@dannysdiygarage There is a nice new Duracell Ultra Gold in the car now. It was on sale for the Memorial Day holiday.
Battery terminal has shit all around it
Everstart is made my the same company as autozone duralast = Johnson
If the battery isnt measuring at least 12.8 Volts it is not fully volts.
12.6 is a fully charged battery
There is no such thing as a "Walmart battery".
About 20 years ago, I worked at an Exide battery manufacturing facility.
I quickly learned that in every size of battery, the exact same battery would get an Everstart label placed on it, on one assembly line... while it would get a Motorcraft label on a different assembly line...or a NAPA label on a third assembly line...or etc, etc.
In other words, except for the different labels, the exact same batteries were being shipped to Walmart and Sam's Club, that were being shipped to AutoZone, O'Reilly's, NAPA, or any number of auto parts retailers.
Great information and thank you for sharing your knowledge.
@@dannysdiygarage you are welcome.
I use the EverStart batterys ....no problems ... !
Appreciate you input
Why don't you just use a load tester
I don’t own a battery load tester and I’m guessing most of my viewers don’t have a load tester either. Also a load tester won’t test for a parasitic draw, I agree a load tester works well and is much quicker, if I had it I would use it. Thanks for your input 👍🏼
@2:22 "My battery went down to 8 volts."
Yet, your car started, seemingly with no strain.
So although that battery is technically registering as bad, do you really need to replace it right away?
If you did not replace it, how much longer could you expect it to start your car?
Because if it will still get the job done for another 6 months, then why start a new warranty on a new battery?
Did you replace it because once it drops below 9.6 volts, it can fail at any time? Or it cannot be trusted in cold weather? Something else?
I am trying to understand why dropping to 8 volts, and yet the car started with no apparent strain, translates to replacing the battery without delay.
-----
I will soon be shopping for a new battery, and I have read mostly good reviews (including yours) on Walmart batteries.
But when I put my car's make, model, year, and trim into Walmart's web site, I am presented with 11 choices. They all have somewhat similar cold cranking amps values (assuming those figures are accurate), and the prices range from $69 to $399, and some of the lower cost batteries have the same, or higher CCA value as the more expensive batteries. How is a customer supposed to choose?
Which model did you purchase?
Great questions, two quick points to consider, one: you never know where you’ll be when your battery fails, two, all other components are working harder when a battery isn’t working properly
@@dannysdiygarage Oh. I assumed that once the car was running, and the alternator was providing electrical current, that the battery was basically out of the picture.
Can you provide guidance on how to choose which Walmart battery, as they vary wildly in price, for similar CCA power.
I saw a review where the host said to purchase the least expensive battery, because the more expensive ones are no better (you are just paying for a longer warranty). The inexpensive one might last as long or longer than the expensive one. It is a crap shoot. So if the $69 battery happens to die in 18 months (out of warranty), then your new purchase (another $69) is even better than initially spending $149, as you might get 3 or maybe 5 years out of the inexpensive battery.
Is that good advice, to go with the $69 Walmart battery?
How did you choose your Walmart battery model? Which model did you purchase?
I’m not a battery expert, I usually purchase a 3 year battery, they usually last 4 to 5 years
They stock neverstart!
I usually buy from dealer.
They are good but they (WALMART)doesn’t stand behind the battery’s,they will deny the warranties. They suck!
They suck. I've had two go bad, one in a year and other with in two years
Which batter did you switch to?
First of all. Walmart doesn’t make batteries. I have bought many Walmart batteries. They have always lasted 4 years or longer. The last one I bought was $100.00 dollars cheaper than Auto Zone. It work just fine. Rural King is a good source for batteries too. Good prices too. Never buy anyone’s economy battery. Never had any luck with them.
Great comment, I never heard of Rural King, what areas are they in?
