      @therealinformalmusic Před rokem +164

      Indeed; in Tolkien’s •The Lord of the Rings• the Rohirrim take shields into battle; Théoden’s carried a “golden shield and lo! it shone like an image of the Sun as he thundered into the battle of the Pelennor Fields; ”Éowyn’s shield “was shivered in many pieces, and her arm was broken” by a blow from the mace of the Black Rider, but the shield undoubtedly saved her life; Éomer “thought to make a great shield-wall at the last, and stand, and fight there on foot till all fell, and do deeds of song on the fields of Pelennor”, and shields are a •sine qua non• for a shield-wall.
      Even orcs bore shields: in Moria’s Chamber of Records, a “huge orc-chieftain, almost man-high” was able to overwhelm Boromir by effective use of his shield, and he then nearly killed Frodo:
      “With a thrust of his huge hide shield he turned Boromir’s sword and bore him backwards, throwing him to the ground. Diving under Aragorn’s blow with the speed of a striking snake he charged into the Company and thrust with his spear straight at Frodo. The blow caught him on the right side, and Frodo was hurled against the wall and pinned. Sam, with a cry, hacked at the spear-shaft, and it broke. But even as the orc flung down the truncheon and swept out his scimitar, Andúril came down upon his helm. There was a flash like flame and the helm burst asunder. The orc fell with cloven head. His followers fled howling, as Boromir and Aragorn sprang at them.”

    Interesting fact right off the bat; Vigo Mortensen insisted on using a real steel longsword while filming, which he took everywhere with him during the three years they filmed the trilogy. Everywhere, even when not on set. And because he insisted on using a real steel longword instead of foam or aluminum, when the actor playing the lead Urukai threw the dagger at him in Fellowship, when it accidentally flew at Vigo instead of toward the side, Vigo was able to deflect it perfectly.

    Confirmed. Sauron is an engineer. He built the dam to provide fresh water to his subjects. The dam maintenance team was issued the sword, which acted as a key so only authorized people could operate the dam through a blood sample DNA test. After a while the initial team's decendents forgot about those things and the sword was lost. After sevearal budget delays the orcs completed the trench that would supply water to their city near Mount Doom, as well as supplying cooling water to the early model RBMK reactor housed within. Unfortunately the initial water flow overrode the safety wier and entered mount doom...
    This explains everything, the dam, the blood demanding sword, why Adar had no clue about the sword or spillway (seperate contract), the Plainly Difficult episode on how the water acted as a unintended moderator in the volcano core. Sauron isn't evil, this was really just a run of the mill engineering disaster.

    I can answer some of these queries you've got fairly easily, Shad;
    The tower with a burning light on top of it collapses like that because it is supposed to evoke the collapse of Barad-dûr at the climax of Return Of The King.
    The Orcs take all night to batter down an inn door only for the Númenóreans to come charging in with the dawn light because it mimics Gandalf arriving with Eômer and the Rohirrim to relieve the siege of Helm's Deep.
    The water comes cascading out of a dam and through a excavated and ruined region of once-lush woodland because that's exactly what the Ents did during their march on Orthanc.
    This show tries desperately to ape the dramatic highlights of the original trilogy without one iota of the buildup, character development, or dramatic weight that those films had. And all it does is make me wish I was watching them instead; so that's what I'm gonna do.

      Yes indeed, they try to copy so many PJ things. But, they copy those things in a ridiculous way. A tower being held up by a rope, which burns instantly when shot at by a fire arrow... that's just too dumb for words. They do not defend the chokepoint at the watch post, which would have been a much better idea than defending 3 houses and a tavern. The Númenóreans seem to be capable of time travelling, as they suddenly cross the sea and land much faster than they would have been able to do. And then the entire idea of a damned dam releasing water into Mt Doom causing it to errupt is just way too stupid as well.

People like having a big battle scene with the good guys defending the castle against faceless monsters. The fact that it’s in a castle kinda helps the brain rationalize that with planning a small number of heroes can defeat a large number of baddies. But then to say nope the castle sucks let’s go to the super open village because reasons. Loved the first Narnia movie. I love somebody talking about the battle scene, it had the right amount of chaotic nature to it, considering it was war between two chaotic mushes of fantasy races that weren't that used to warfare, and you could even get yourself looking at somewhat legit tactics you could have thought of without a deep knowledge of what could magic do in that universe. Yet, both sides looked like taking things seriously, like they both tried to coordinate their efforts despite their chaotic nature to get the upper hand. So even if things devolved into lots of 1v1 fights and similar things, it feels natural.

      One is a blending of modern and past ideas and material cultures, this is Kramer, what Kramer does. the other is a form of leadership philosophy which proposes that committees of effected parties should form to solve issues as they arrive, anarchy was a legitimately proposed line of political thought in the wake of the 1st world war where it was felt that poor depictions from the leadership of the day caused the war, and caused excessive casualties during the war. Anarchisim is not anarchy it is decentralised leadership and descsion making by way of committees formed of the citizens concerned.

    Something you’re not asking Shad, that you should ask yourself is this, how did the Numenoreans know, the Orcs were attacking a village, which village it was, and where the village was at?
    The Numenoreans ride like they’re headed for a battle to rescue people in a village, before it’s too late.
    However, with what they know, they should be cautiously headed toward the Watchtower, the last known destination for the Orcs, according to Halbrand, assessing the situation, size and fortifications of the Orcs as they travel, not riding full gallop to save the Southland humans from Orcs.
    The audience knows this is happening, but the Numenoreans shouldn’t, unless they had access to read the script.
    Also, if the Numenoreans went to the watchtower prior to going to the village, why didn’t they leave a few men there to secure that location so they would have a fall back point, and an area to stage from where troop movements could be seen, if needed, that would’ve also prevented, Baldrick dude from releasing the dam.

    Horse riding expert here,
    Ive been on horseback jumping hitting solid wooden beams, given yes they were stationary, that would knock the wooden beam flying and my horse would not care at all. Once again these wooden beams are made to fall quickly for everyone's safety. But I've had less safe jumps during cross country events.
    To answer your question, can you trip a horse with such a spear the size of a broom stick? No, spears counter horses because you can put the backside of the spear in the ground/dirt behind you and then aim it towards the charging horse. This will most likely break the spear but also put the shaft into the horse's chest given it has no armor to deflect the tip.(this horse no armor aim it at its chest, even though this would still break your hand if you hold it like that and dont lock it on the saddle)
    A human holding the spear like that in front of a charging horse...? If deffo not Sauron was not Sauron he would 1 break his hand if he attempted to hold on to that spear and 2 the spear would be flying off/break by the speed and momentum of the horse and 3 if this horse had eyes and saw a spear come swinging towards it it would pull up its hooves / jump............ there is too much wrong with this I could go on longer but ill finish here.

      Arrow through Uruk's face part, arrow tip is sharp, and you can stab with it. Don't know if it has yet, but wanted to address Shad's inquiry about the arterial bleeding. Yes, in the shoulder area is a major artery call the axillary artery which is the main blood supply to the arm. If severed, you can pass out from the bleeding in 15 seconds, and bleed out in just about a couple minutes. The blood loss is accurate if that was the case. Although they make the same mistake like Halo did with cauterization. She would likely lose the arm even if done properly (blood supply), but they basically just sealed the outside of the wound without actually stopping the bleeding; the artery is still severed.

    • @tranquilthoughts7233
      @tranquilthoughts7233 Před rokem +5

      @@richardmetzler7909 Well technically speaking the orks aren't sensitive to light per se. They are sensitive to sunlight. And that's because in this age the sun is actually the last remnant of the last fruit of Laurelin guided across the sky in a vessel steered by the Maia Arien. Now that's a lot of unfamiliar words for someone not familiar with lotr lore. So let's start simple:
      Laurelin and Telperion were two sacred trees created by the Valar (think: goddes) Yavanna. They were her greatest creation, one that could never be recreated if ever destroyed. Laurelin shone with golden light and Telperion shone with silver light. And their light waxed and waned in a seven hour rythm and their lgiht served as the lightsource for all of arda (the world). However, Morgoth became jealous of yavannas creation, enlistd the help of the giant spider ungoliant and together raided the golden land and destroyed Laurelin and Telperion. Yavanna, aided by nienna tried to resurect the trees but they only managed to reviving Telperions last flower and laurelins last fruit. And those became the moon and the sun respectivly.
      Arien is a maiar, essentially a lesser god or maybe you could call her an angel. She was tasked with guiding the last fruit of laurelin across the sky so that it's last (rather weak compared to the full bloom of laurelin) light may illuminate all of arda. And it's her gaze that's actually hurting all the beings of morgoth which isn't only orks. As a sidenote, The last flower of Telperion was given to another maiar named Tilion to illuminate the night. But Tilion was actually deeply (and completly one sided) in love with Arien which is why he sometimes comes out before his appointed time to chase after arien and be near her. And that is why you sometimes can see the sun and the moon in the sky at the same time. This is also why in the lord of the rings the sun is always refered to as "she" and the moon as "he" after the gender of both the trees and the maiar guiding them. Also, the reason why Tilions gaze is not burning morgoths creatures is because he only has eyes for arien.

That's a lot of weight to be hanging off one side of the horse for a length of time, yet it doesn't impact the horse at all. It doesn't even drift a bit toward that side. She has plate armor, and late medieval plate armor, not the type that is lots of mail with a breastplate, while the orc is using a short bow, with an arrowhead that is not designed for piercing armor. Unless the orc got a head shot, she was probably safer not reacting than leaning that way off the horse. Though the armor is missing the V to deflect arrows away from the head/neck, which it really should have if it was properly designed. Also, incredibly dumb of her to leave her head completely uncovered.

      They spent the budget for the stunt coordinator on the intimacy coach for that brief scene where Guyladrial and Not-Sauron have a brief heart to heart chat.

    "He's got swords on him!"
    "You're right!"
    I don't know why Shad's delivery of that line killed me, but I keep replaying it, and it's still one of his funniest moments.
    And in answer to your question at 1:12:56 "Can she not dodge anything without dismounting?"
    I think the answer would be "No she can't! Do you have any idea how long it took us to train the actress to pull off that move! We didn't hire anyone who actually knew how to write or choreograph, so we're keeping our competent horse-rider trainers locked up in the basement until they give us at least 3 times the stunts they'd normally do!"

      What move? Look again at the cuts, all she does us cock a leg before it's a two cut pass for the rest of the action. One for down and one for back up. Horrible.

      Dude the behind the scenes video for this battle is hilarious. The person directing everything that happens is a 66 year old Womyn who does that thing where they stick their nose up and speak gently like they have centuries experience. She's like, "Yeah our goal was to give Bronwyn her chance to shine", and that's how you got her slaying orcs and being in charge and being killed but not dying and healed the next episode. Lmao

    54:45 ok, this map is actually one of the most faithful to the information in the books, so now that y'all see this map here, let me give you some context as to how ludicrous distances are in this show: it takes forty days for an armada to arrive at Aman (western continent) from Númenor, sailing southwest to the bay near Tol-Eressëa (you can see the island in the map).
    Since Númenor is closer to Aman and the equator line than to Middle Earth, it should maybe take, like, around sixty days maybe, to get to Middle Earth from Númenor sailing directly towards Mordor. That's two months of voyage.
    But them overloaded boats can travel that distance in a matter of days.

    Regarding Pompei - those who stayed outdoors exploded and vaporised instantly. Those who stayed indoors died instantly of thermal shock or died slower death by asphyxiation. Their bodies covered by the ash decomposed over time. The ash turned into rock and empty cavities were filled with the plaster centuries later, recreating the shape of the victims.
