  • Here's my first impressions of the Varmax Mini Sewing Machine. It's really cheap, but is it worth the money and how many layers will it sew?

I got one cheap sewing machine very similar to the one you featured. I've been sewing for quite a while and this machine can do the basic job perfectly! I've sewn plushies, bags and dresses using this machine. The noise coming from this machine was crazy loud though so I advise please don't use this machine at night.

They were 5 and 8 at the time; they've graduated to a Brother computerized machine since. They still use their "little" machines for quick repairs. THE TENTION: Step1: separate the silver tension ring by pulling it towards you with the spring. Look in between it, see that the thread is resting in the middle of the little piece of plastic, if not take the tread and rest it on the plastic then close the tension ring.

Thanks for reviewing that machine. I've been considering getting it, as I haven't touched a sewing machine since I was a child, and that was under my great-aunt's supervision. While I love hand-sewing, sometimes I wish that I had a small, simple machine for crafts and repairs. I think I'll buy it!

  • @coldfusionmusical
    @coldfusionmusical Před 3 lety +110

I have this machine! For this price, it's really good! You just need to accept that it's more manual manoeuvre.
To wind the bobbin, just use your own hand to manipulate the thread while it's winding.
To end the project, it's better to let it sew off the fabric for awhile so that you don't need to risk pulling and breaking the needle (well, actually it won't break, but the thread will). You'll end up with some twisted stitch but just untwist it. It's just a small price to pay.
As for the back stitch, simply hold down the needle onto the fabric, turn the fabric, sew a stitch and then turn the fabric back, and it's done!
I absolutely love this machine. Yeah, you won't be able to work it like a regular big sewing machine but for its price and what it can offer, it's a win!
As for the tension, I'm not so particular, but thanks for pointing it out. I'll continue to experiment with it.

Stick the needle threader through the eye of the needle first, then pass the thread through the loop of the threader and pull the threader back out of the eye. The thread gets pulled through by the loop on the threader.

I got one of these for $5 at a thrift store! It's my first (and only) sewing machine so it was a little hard for me to get the hang of. I made a few little long Furbies with it so far. I typically work with fur but I can't fit most of it under the thing because of how thick the fur is lol. Tempted to use it for the hat I'm making, but it kinda freaks me out...very loud and fast!!

Thank you for an indepth review though I was super excited when I saw you had the handheld and the mini initially on screen, because I thought it was going to be a comparison. Newbies like myself don't know anything or how to judge between the items, so I liked how you did a quick pros and cons at the end. Would be good to have a comparison with the pros and cons in one video, side by side. But I love your personality and the review. Thank you!

I got me one of these so I can fix my clothes and make some basic stuff like Halloween costumes, bags and stuff. It works really well, but the fact that it can't do back stitching or have different stitching patterns is kind of bogus. The thread tensioner can be a little finnicky unless you do some test stitches on similar fabrics as different threads can break or leave a loose stitch, though even the looser stitches tend not to come apart so easily. Another thing is the speed controller works sometimes, so if you're running the pedal it will run on low if you ned to stop and adjust the fabric at any point meaning you have to push the button each time you want it to run on high. And it can stall fairly easily. I don't have the space or dedication for a full-on getup so despite the minor idiosyncrasies, it has been a great machine.

I've been wondering whether those are good for a long time, and now I know. I like the little table it has. I have to give it a 👍 since it worked well on the denim, and I love the accessory tray. Good to have around for emergency sewing needs for the grand kids. TY, great video, and keep up the good work.

I was looking for a tutorial for a particular mini sewing machine and at first you looked like you were reviewing the model that I'd bought, but on closer inspection it's not quite the same..all the buttons are in the same places and do the same thing but the brand name and shape are different..it would have been nice if my model had come with all the extras that yours did, like all the thread and bobbins (mine only came with 6, four threaded) but then I really don't need all those reels of cotton..the work tray would have been nice..I bought mine from Aldi because my work space is to small for my main machine at the moment and want to do some machine stitching of stuff..so I am looking forward to giving mine a try..mine come with the choice of either using power via batteries or via mains power..now all I need is either a screwdriver or an extension cord, chuckle..which will show up first in my hunt..I'm crocheting bags and wanted line them..I just don't want to have to root around my storage shed to find my main sewing machine which is still packed away in storage..thanks for the vid..

But i only used it for 3 weeks, before then decided to bought real sewing machine.
It's not bad, but the sound though. Soo loud....
You have to fix the tension every few hours of sewing.
And the most deal breaker is no reverse sew...😣

I just bought one of these (brand Easy Home) from Aldi's for $14.99. Haven't unboxed it and set it up yet. I have a large sewing machine in my outside craft area, but thought this would be good to have in the house - small enough to store in any cabinet and I would just use it for crafts or repairing clothing, etc. I'm hoping it works well enough for that - thought it was a great price.

🤣 That was hilarious! The thread does not get wrapped around the tensioner, it just passes through it. Thats why you had trouble in this review and the "under $50" video. Also the needle threader goes through the eye of the needle first, then put the thread through the needle threader and pull the thread back through the eye of the needle. Good luck, you are fun to watch!

Thank you so much! I'm a beginner to sewing so this is very helpful. I'm m a fashion doll collector and I wanted to learn how to sew my own doll clothes without but other doll clothes secondhand. I planned to get a Brother seeing machine from Walmart bc a seller on etsy that ive purchase clothes from used that machine, but I didn't want to commit to that price yet and wanted to start with something cheap like this first, and get a handle on things. So thank ypu again.
