Re: Mini Sewing Machine (white with purple) Knobs on the front have 2 Speed setting, etc. Just look closer, read instruction manual & a couple of the extra mini sewing machine videos by the company; it has 2 speeds, there’s a tension knob, yes there’s a bobbin winder, the screw near the needle tightens the presser foot, there’s a tension knob, light switch, needle guard. Got one for my 8 yr old granddaughter for Christmas. I haven’t sewn in about 40-45 yrs. Thankfully, I remembered the basics. It works great! I love it & better yet SHE LOVES IT!
Yea he didn't really get familiar with the machine first to figure all that out. Would've helped! It's a cool little machine!
Also, it sounded like he said it was a $50 sewing machine when you can easily buy one for $20 or less. It's great for beginners! The only two things that are missing are being able to go in reverse and being able to use thick material (like heavy denim).
It blows my mind that this is supposedly a knowledgeable “certified master technician “ who doesn't read instructions and can not operate the least expensive machine only because he won't do the most elementary requirement and look at how to use it correctly. The second machine he was laughing his way through is actually a really useful machine for some projects. I actually can see the logic in using these machines like how I am storing all my machines in storage and using one of these because I'm living in a hotel. Hey @theseamster show him how it's done!
I wondered if he would actually READ anything. I saw that on another channel that showed that. But that person didn't read the box.

@@oh.comelyAgree. I got the handy stitch for $10, unfamiliar with chain stitches, I couldn't do a single proper stitched line before wrecking the mechanism. Now getting the $20 2nd machine that lock stitches, I think I'll be able to use it properly. Being frameless & lightweight, must be gentle and read instructions carefully, and don't drop it!

I currently have three sewing machines and have always threaded the cotton on to the bobbin by winding the thread a couple of times around it, then threading the end through one of the bobbin holes. It allows me to give it a little tension when the thread starts to fill the bobbin. Was taught this when learning on my mother’s hand sewing machine with the shuttle type bobbins and it helps with the round ones of modern machines.
I just watched a review on that mini machine. The lady was very informative and positive about it. The thread holder on top pulls up to hold the spool of thread. I understand you sell sewing machines, but why be so negative about less expensive models? Give a proper review.

I use one of those handheld chainstitchers all the time. The difference is you move the machine not the fabric. Once you get that part down, it's pretty good. Chain stitches make excellent basting stitches, but I have a singer 411g that fills that need most of the time now.

This was fun! I have three top end Berninas, but I still found this a lot of fun. Used machines are really the way to go if you need something really dirt cheap and are stuck in your dorm room with a bunch of mending.

That little hand sewing gadget has been around for years. Back in the day it was called the Sew-Amatic. $3.99 LOL They had one that also did buttons automatically....the name...you guessed it! The Button-matic~ LOL😅🤣😂

I was blessed that I bought a Singer that is tiny. I can’t remember what it’s called but it is a real machine! Quilters love these because they are easy to travel with. Comes in a case that is solid. Mine has been to Germany and back. I made baby clothes and did repairs on army base. Bought it in 1967 it has not needed repairs. It is just a straight stitch but that is what I learned to sew on. I have 3 other machines but this is my favorite for quilts.
One singer that is a year older than I am. One of singers first embroidery machines about1955. A sears machine that I got to make my kids clothes. It has a stretch stitch that is wonderful for knits. About 1970.
I believe these are called featherweights or something like that. I also have one and is what I learned how to sew on. It truly is a work horse

I've had a Janome Sew Mini for many years. It is most similar to the Singer, but smaller, about the size of a toaster. I bring it with me when I travel because it fits in a regular suitcase and weighs nothing. I work on improv quilts on vacation, so a 1/4" seam allowance isn't important. And if the sewing machine walks away from my hotel room, it wouldn't take much to replace it.

This makes me so glad that I found a vintage 1970's Frister and Rossmann machine in a thrift store for £15. My machine is all metal, weighs about 12 kilos and has a beautifully responsive foot pedal which allows you to go as fast or slow as you like. So for the price of the first "machine" I have something that can easily handle denim and leather. The only negative is that it is a flat bed design which makes doing things like cuffs and ankle hems somewhat fiddly. It only does straight or zigzag but really that is all I need for now. I am only altering clothes, not trying to be the next Giorgio Armani!

My Dad bought two of the hand held devices...HE was a professional tailor. He sent them both back the next day. I'm a Singer guy.

I watched this because I bought the mini machine. Although I appreciate the information, I wish there was a more thorough review. Just by reading the instruction manual I was able to see that there's a High-Low button for stitch speed (only 2 speeds, but still). I also had more success winding a bobbin than you. That being said, I love the view of the inside of the machine. I was wondering if this was interesting enough to change the foot (I wanted to sew a zipper onto a crochet project). But.... you gave me my answer, lol.

I bought that second machine to use while traveling. It worked one time at home. The next time I tried to use the machine it would not come back on.
It was a piece of junk that I wasted money on. It was put in the round file.

I actually bought a Singer Mini machine 10+ years ago to start showing my granddaughter how to sew but they moved away till recently and it has been stored and never taken out of the box. You have got me curious about it. I'm gonna have to dig it out and try it, don't know that I could handle the noise I'm used to my very quite Singer that I piece with. I bought a $100 Baby Lock at a quilt show a few years ago…it’s now got a name…Zest. It was just a number before…BL9. It’s a legitimate machine and my granddaughter is/has used it a lot. It’s got a quality stitch and is pretty well made. Who knew. I think it costs a whole $150 or so these days. So you can get a working machine for not a lot of $$$.

I got my granddaughter a 70 or 80 dollar Janome a few years ago. It did ok at sewing but when I went to put a quarter inch foot on it I couldn't. The foot that came on it was permanent and couldn't be changed. I ended up getting her a babylock Brilliant that she should have for a long time. It purrs like a kitten and has a lot of the newer bells and whistle's. You get what you pay for. Enjoyed your video.
The Janome sounds like the Janome Sew Mini that I've had for a long time, that I take with me when I travel. It's slow but gets the job done, fits in my suitcase and weighs nothing.

I have a singer mender works fine. I got it on sale for 60 dollars. Works fine to piece quilts
Our videographer sews on a Singer Tradition he got at Joann's in high school and he has no complaints 🤔 If it works then keep doing it!
When I wash pillows, I unstitch them after so I can unfcuk the insides easier. That hand stitcher is great for re-stitching them

Paid $3 for the handheld on temu. Cut down my time drastically from hand stitching and I can throw it in a drawer when I'm done. I guess it just depends on the perspective you come into this at.

The Janome Mini, in the hands of an experienced sewer, has done a great job on some projects. It is just slow and has no built-in light with very basic stitches.

My granddaughter got that singer when she was younger for Christmas. It was after trying a $49 dollar one, and re pkg it and exchanged it at the store. At least the singer actually sewed.
I used to work at a "big box store". People would come in to by a toy sewing machine for their tween/teen. I was always quite honest with them and tell them that if the kid is serious about sewing, just buy a better, bigger real sewing machine. The toy ones would always fail and once you run out of thread/bobbins, you cannot replace them, etc. The kids would just get frustrated. The parents never believed me and after Christmas, the toy machine would be returned and I would end up selling out of the cheapest, basic REAL sewing machines. It happened EVERY SINGLE CHRISTMAS that I worked there. lol

@SewYeah Question for you. I just got a walmart mini sewing machine SM-202A, tested it, all good, except the foot pedal jack plug doesn't securely fit, I have to hold it or it falls out, (which defeats the purpose of having free hands to guide the cloth) the 2 machine halves meeting there are slightly misaligned. Obviously the machine was tested but not the foot pedal jack. You unscrewed the halves, is there a trick to putting it together again? Any springs bouncing out? I don't want to send it back to China and wait a month or three.
You may have to send it back. Can you take it into a store.?
@@SewYeah I got the 2 year warranty extension, so I figured I'd open the case, might be a minor thing that I can fix. If not, I'll call the service dept. Did you have any problem putting it back together?
Update: good news! Walmart full refund and I keep the mini, so I can open it and try to fix. If I fail, I'll buy another or better one. :)
The first hand held machine, you can buy at the 99 cent store for $5.99. As far as your bobbin, you need to buy a separate bobbin threader for your bobbins.

I bought the stapler-looking one... it was a waste of time... as you mentioned one has no control over it, not even for a hem. The middle one is more for a child to learn and get a feel of it, good enough to make a simple bag but not to bind anything too thick or 4 layers which is what you would need to make a purse or tote bag.

What about portability? I’ll want a machine on my travels that doesnt weigh much or take space. Would these/any of these work?
Depends on whether you need a locking stitch or not.
By far the most portable is the stapler kind. You can get hand powered ones that are smaller and lighter than the one in the video for about a fiver. They're somewhat comparable in stitch to hand sewing, but are much quicker. They can be a bit fiddly, so it will likely take a bit of practice and experimentation to get a great run of stitches. If you use a shorter stitch length, you should be able to get a functionally strong run of stitches.
If you want a locking stitch, either the second machine in this video or something roughly equivalent is likely your best bet. You might need to give it a bit of padding, even just a cloth bag, so it can survive transportation. A selection of bobbins is going to likely be more compact than a selection of spools.
The last one showed should work.
If You Were Going On A Trip, which one would you take for emergencies that might Arise ..The Larger Expensive One I Would Leave At Home, simply because It's Too Bulky..

I have a portable singer, smaller than that one singer. It does not have a reverse 😢please help
Leave the needle in the fabric, lift the foot and turn the fabric round and sew a few stitches. Turn the fabric back round and continue.
Raise the foot turn the material and sew a few stitches opposite direction to lock thread

Lol I just tried the micro one and returned it immediately. Impossible to do the straight stitch even with two hands (I pressed the button with my foot haha thanks god Im flexible).
The mini one and the bobbin, its weird that you never saw that before. My mom has a professional machine where you thread the bobbin the same way and I saw many machines like that. Maybe the newest ones have some different mechanism, I dont know.
Oh, and you didnt review the absolute smallest one! Its mechanical handheld, no batteries no electricity whatsoever. I'm actually planning to get it instead of micro. Only 5 bucks

You are better off spending $25 to $50 on a good used machine in most any thrift store in the world. These basic machines are meant for not having to walk around with pants that are too long or a split seam in the seat of your pants. Better off with a used one.

Thank you for helping me to decide not to buy any of those. I have a Singer shuttle treadle sewing machine, a hand cranked Jones sewing machine, an antique Singer electric, and a vintage zigzag which I'm going to put a hand crank on. I'm off the electric grid most of the time.

I always wondered how bad those mini machines are. Junk junk as I suspected. I have a sewing room full of Juki’s and love them. I have a DX7, MO-1000 serger, DDL-8700 industrial, and a J-350 Miyabi sit down longarm.

If you want a free vintage 1960s - 1970s sewing machine, spread the word you want one. People will throw them at you. I had to say no to several just because I don't have room. They sew like champs with just a little basic maintenance (lots of videos out there on that, AndyTube is great) and will last forever because of their metal gears.

The hand held ons the thread snapped and you continue to "sew" with no thread it bothered me when I noticed that.
The second machine is very similar to a temu machine that cost like $8 dollars and you can't have the sewing thread attached as it will get caught up on the inside and do what just happened.

Why do you keep saying it might break? Plastic will fail eventually but our Juki Japanese $800 one is Gucci and we do nothing to it and never breaks. We also have 2 industrial Juki. Its about use. I'm in Aerospace. Just picked up this skill and 6 months into it.

You criticised the mini machine allot but it's actually a good little machine for little money you put the bobbin on the needle bar instead of the fixed bar then you criticised it for the bobbin falling off that's a fault with how you used it not the machine

My granddaughter got a child's sewing machine and I think its a safety Hazzard. There is no way to direct the settings and hold the machine at the same time. The machine requires a dexterity that few kids have at this age range and is much too fast. I gave one of my machines to her. It's easier to use, a variety of speeds.and just safer to use,

the little machines look cute, but to teach a child with less agitation it's better to find an old sturdy machine 2nd hand, the light weight of those machines could be dangerous to kids lol

There IS a bobbin winder on that mini machine.That rod you put the reel of cotton on has to be pulled up to hold it. There's also two buttons that one has an L on it, the other an H =. High and Low, these adjust the speed of the sewing. There's also a little built in light. You really should read the manual or better still watch a yt video before you try to do a demo.

People can't always "just bite the bullet" and spend more. For some people $100 is not a small amount of money, and decently working, reasonably priced used machines aren't always available. If taken proper care of the little Singer or its Brother counterpart (both available at Walmart) can work just fine for those who use them.
