Very helpful review ❤. I am the proud owner of a 2024 CRV Sport Touring Hybrid ( under 2000 miles) and the ticking sound you described has been worrying me. Thanks for saving me a trip to the dealership ( and yes…I just notice it when it’s cold). This is my 3rd CRV (1997, 2016) and I couldn’t be happier. Definitely a great vehicle!! I have a 2023 honda crv touring hybrid and am in Canada near Toronto. So far I am happy with the car. I have had some reduced mileage in winter so far but still better than my old 2015 honda crv. I love how quiet it drives. I put on 17" michelin ice x snow tires and so far winter driving has been good. Normally on my previous car, if I installed snow tires the gas mileage would drop a lot, but this one there is only a minor difference between snow tires and regular tires. I also drove it from my location to atlanta georgia and back which is 1,000 miles (1600 km) and got between 35-40 us miles per gallon mileage with the snow tires installed. It does use more the colder it is. Today its -12 celsius which is 10 degrees f . It heats up nice and quick. I really have not had any problems with this car. I have not experienced any braking issues or anything like that. So far this has been a good purchase.

I have a sport hybrid 2023 CRV. I get 29-31 mpg in North Dakota, in the winter. My last RAV-4 got 20 mpg in real cold weather. It gets really cold here. Sometimes 30 below or colder. In the summer I get mostly 40 mpg. I drive on a lot on gravel roads. Modern safety systems don't like gravel roads. The transmission is the best part of the car. It isn't slow at all, like the non-hybrid, but quite zippy. This is the best car I have ever owned.

    Nice review Paul.
Thank you for thoroughly investigating the automatic braking issue.
These systems can be a great help when the driver is tired or for someone getting older.
Just check the sensors for debris or crud.
The technology will only get better with time.
Thank you for the average mpg figures, 31-36 is very reasonable for the size of this vehicle.
I don’t expect it would improve over the summer, what with probably full time AC use.
I will have to wait and see on future videos.

Paul, thank you so much for posting this excellent video review of CRV hybrid on CZcams. Very, very helpful. I’m actively shopping CRV hybrid vs. RAV4 hybrid so this video is timely and informative. I’ve test driven both. I think that CRV has smoother ride (like you said “butter”), is much more quiet and is a more refined vehicle than RAV4. I also think the CRV’s software and infotainment is more organized (RAV4’s software seems more rudimentary and less intuitive). However the RAV4 has a spare tire and better battery warranty (make me more comfortable). Decisions, decisions. Thanks again Paul!

31 MPG for a SUV in winter is really good! My 2015 Fit CVT gets about 33 or 34 in summer if I keep it at like 65 MPH. This winter we had a good few weeks that was also 9°F here in Kansas and my 10 mile commute on the interstate was lucky to get 28 MPG. Measuring the remote start MPG makes sense, it doesn't know if you're in start and go traffic, or just sitting in the driveway; burning gas is burning gas and counts.

I bought my 2024 CR-V Sport L Hybrid 4 days ago and only have a 100 miles on it. No problems so far. GREAT car! I had a 2019 RAV4 that I traded in . The CR-V Hybrid is significantly quieter than the RAV-4, even when it’s running on gas. On about a 10-mile round trip to the store yesterday, I got 41.3. MPG. The affect of extreme cold weather didn’t interest me that much because where I live we’re running our AC about 8 months out of the year. Bottomline, I know it’s only been a few days, but I can say that driving this car has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Canadian owner here. '23 touring hybrid. 8500km so far. Blizzak winter tires. We have had several opportunities to drive it in snowy and slushy conditions. It performs very well and wife feels very secure driving it in those conditions. She enjoys being warm while driving, so it gets remote started and heated seat/steering wheel are used, as well, so fuel economy isn't nearly as good as summer. It would be bad no matter what we were driving, so I have no complaints.

We finally just got some snow the other day in Ontario and overall my 2024 CRV sport (non hybrid) was alright, I noticed that it tended to slide out a bit more than my older Santa Fe did. I wondered if the extra weight from the hybrid system would help with that or not? Other wise it's been great and fuel ecomy even on the full gas model has been really good. Can't wait to see what kind of milage I get one the winter tires are off and we get some nice summer drives in.

Regarding the collision mitigation, I had a similar experience with my 2020 Honda Passport Elite. I was driving in the mountains east of San Diego last month, and there was a late season snow. The snow built up on the Honda emblem / radar sensor in the grill and I got the same warning message as you. Once I brushed the snow off the sensor, the error message went away.
Fortunately, I didn't experience hard braking when that happened.

I have just bought a CR-V EX-L. My Honda dealership offered a lifetime guarantee on the powertrain. I also own a Toyota Venza. When it is snowing, I have to turn off a lot of the features. The sensors get covered with snow and start sounding, and the auto braking kicks in. So, it's not just Honda. I went with the CR-V instead of the Toyota was the extra space in the back seat and trunk.

I have about 1K on my 2024 CRV Sport Touring Hybrid. Very happy with the car so far. I did go on one long trip through some slushy wet snowy weather. The safety systems go off when the Honda emblem on the front grill gets too much accumulation over it and a warning pops up. Apparently there is a sensor or radar in there of some sort. It didn't seem to take too much precipitation for this to happen. I was also wondering if anyone has noticed that the wipers park in different positions at the bottom of the windshield both when turned off or resting. I also noticed the wipers will sometimes jump up a quarter of an inch when the engine is turned off. This does not happen every time. I've had a lot of snow and ice here in the NE and have had to use the wipers a lot. Not sure if it's a fault with the wiper system or normal behavior.

My front Nissan Kicks sensor gave me a warning because there was ice or snow on it, but it sensed something was wrong, and it asked me if I wanted to disable it temporarily. I pushed yes as I was on the expressway. Then when the snow blew off, it was fine. The back sensor is touchy if it senses I am near anything. But it catches cars far away that I don't even see coming and protects me from backing out. I always question it, "Are you sure?" But it is always correct. I get 29-39 MPG in the city and 38-46 MPG on the expressway. In winter, as you say, the mileage has dropped. But my car is not a hybrid. You are welcome to all the snow we've had in our area to test your car. I have front wheel drive. It did get stuck in the unplowed parking lot once after a horrible, heavy, wet snow. Otherwise, it has been okay. I learned too late I am supposed to disable traction control when stuck in snow.

I've owned a number of Hondas/Acuras with the LKAS system and they all share one thing in common - the steering wheel clockspring is noisy and gets noisier over time. It's been replaced in a couple of our cars and it just comes back over time. I don't think it's a factory defect. I think it's a function of the mechanism that does steering assist and wiggles the wheel when it detects lane departure.

  • @jeffmiller1140

OK.... I own the '23 Sport Touring Hybrid. This would be my 3rd CR-V. Honda makes a great vehicle in theory, and that's why I've owned so many. However, there are always things Honda conveniently leaves out, that twist up the loyal Honda customers. No Homelink garage door opener ($350, took 4 months to get the new mirror that has it). No cargo cover. (They were included with all my other CR-V's) The screen is less than most other competitors, and firmware updates are all but non existent. The charging pad for the phone is wonky, at best. Wireless CarPlay has glitchy software that at times, needs a restart. It's good to have the onboard GPS (actually uses satellites), because the mobile phone people are not always that reliable, and towers are sometimes sparse. This thing has paddle shifters!! What the hell do I need with paddle shifters??!! (and, I did confirm that they are paddle shifters, and not some way to just invoke the charging system. The braking does that) This is a hybrid, not a Ferrari! And finally, there is NO SPARE TIRE!! I didn't find this out until I I watched another CZcams video that concerned this. I have achieved 42.5 MPG during the summer, playing with it. In the colder weather, you will get more like 34-36 MPG. Thanks for the video! Well done!

My dealer said there probably will in the future be a recall on the steering rack. The sticky steering is the rack itself. I know because I am waiting for mine to come in to be repaired. • @tpaflusa
      @tpaflusa Před 4 měsíci +1

@@tonycadiz891It started out that way with the creaking, then it started getting stuck in certain positions and was hard to steer when driving. The civics had a similar recall because they use a similar steering rack and now it's happening with the 23 and 24 CRVs. It happens regardless if the crash mitigation system is on or off so it's not that. They have my steering rack on back order and it could take a month or two because there is such a high demand.

Canadian here. 2023 CR-V touring hybrid took delivery of it March 2023 and use it for my business. Got about 56,000km (~35,000 miles).
I upgraded the wheels to 20” for the Summer. Sitting on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Very good tires, much better than the factory Continentals. For Winters I have Michelin X-Ice’s. No complaints there of course. Driven through blizzards in BC and two feet of the Pacific wet snow in Vancouver. Never been stuck before. Always 100% confidence.
During -30C conditions the suspension makes a ton of weird noises. As well as the engine, the ticking is a lot louder; combining with other sounds. Gas mileage is way worse in the cold as the electric motor doesn’t really run by itself at all.
Planning to trade in for a Pilot by Winter 2025 as the CR-V will probably reach the mileage of my extended warranty (160,000km) by then. My last vehicle was a 2019 Ridgeline Touring, that thing had just over 150,000km when I sold it. The torque converter was starting to go and I was out of warranty so I had to get rid of it fast.
The CR-V has been good to me. Only problem I had was the tailgate spoiler shell peeling up and Honda replaced it under warranty. I can assure you if there’s a problem that comes with mileage on the new CR-V I would be one of the first group of owners to experience it in North America.
And one more thing about the longer oil change intervals. I think it’s fine to follow Honda’s maintenance minder. For my first three oil changes I did the 8,000km interval. The oil that was being drained each time was still transparent. So been following Honda’s minder ever since.
