I really appreciate a calm pilot coming on speaker warning for turbulence instead of just sudden turbulence.
Despite having a dad and a husband that both loved to fly and both actually piloted planes I am a nervous flyer too. I love these sessions with your husband. He's so knowledgeable and calm in his responses that it makes me less nervous after listening to him. Thanks for doing these.
I am glad it helps.
The captain - Voice of Reason. Thank you.
“Is that right?” “No” I laughed so hard at you two! Thanks for the flying tips and hubby taking the time to answer questions. Great video! ❤
hahaha
My advice is, don’t worry about things you can’t change, and when it is your day to go, just say a quick prayer for those ones you leave behind.
Can’t comment unless you watch the video lol
@@TravelTipsbyLauriesometimes we watch it and it gets through the video because we are multitasking so we restart to leave a comment. I don’t think it registers it. I guess the lesson is, since you are a teacher, to comment the first time we watch it!
@@chicanica64 Got it! It showed you commenting after 3 mins.
Amen, Esther 🙏
Thanks for the info! Very helpful!
turbulence in the sky is like potholes in the road. the airplane is built to experience it without damage, just like cars are built to hit potholes without damage.
the return flight on my last trip, the pilot adjusted his original climbout to avoid turbulence.
I love love the videos with your husband! He’s so reassuring and calm! Thank you very much for all the information!
I love to fly. I hate getting to the airport and to the airside.
And I always try to thank the pilots for getting us to our destination safely.
They're always very kind and friendly.
I have been flying in airliners since 1952. Jet lag can be mitigated by setting your watch to the time zone in your destination 3 days before you leave and getting your sleep during the night time of your destination for the three days before departure.
Thanks. I’m going to try that.
Your husband is fabulous at explaining all your questions!! Really enjoyed this!!!❤
Thank you for all you do for keeping us safe in the air ❤. Love all your tips.
Oh my gosh when Chris said no and started laughing I was rolling!! He was barely holding in those expressions while you were talking🤣 that's the hilarious friends I love💕
Thank you for this video! I'm a nervous flyer. It's nice to hear information from a pilot's perspective.
You can do it!
I love these " Questions with the Captain" videos! Thank you both! ❤
More to come!
Y’all are adorable together and fun to watch your dynamics. Love your videos!
Glad you like them!
Our flight to Munich on United on May 18th had a lot of issues and we left like 5 hours late, we even drove out to the runway, but we did finally take off, I just want to say that the flight attendeds were super, great crew even with all those issues that they had to endure.
That always helps. When it's overseas, I get in panic mode if delayed.
I always enjoy listening to your husband. I keep his advice in mind when I'm flying.
Thank y'all.
Laurie, if you were overly professional and serious, I wouldn’t watch. I love how down to earth you are. Thank you for helping me travel more confidently to DR for the last few years to visit my missionary daughter, son-in-law and their children. ❤
I am so glad Kristin!!!
Thank you! I WAS a terrified flyer, & have not flown for years. However, after watching your videos with your husband answering your questions, I feel much more comfortable flying to visit our son in Europe. I booked the flight for for my husband & me all by myself! I feel confident & relaxed & look forward to going. I am truly grateful for these videos.
Hi Laurie. I have anxiety attacks days before a flight just thinking about it. You might say it's being anxious over being in an anxiety attack. The only thing that gets me past the Boarding Gate is meds. A Xanax and an Inderal. I take the meds about a 1/2 hour before boarding, and once they kick in I am fine.
Xanax, Ativan, Dramamine, Sominex, even CBD gummies. Whatever it takes!
Laurie you two are the cutest couple on You Tube. You two laughing together made my day. Carol in San Francisco
Thank you!!
Dear Laurie, your pilot husband with all his experience explains complex concepts simply and is very reassuring without avoiding the risks involved. You do have great questions and your videos together are so informative.🎉 thank you!
I fly all the time and have for the past 40 years, but I still cannot get past fear if turbulence. I know the planes can take it and that pilots handle it every day, but I still hate it. Thanks though! It is always good to hear the info straight from the source!
No, thank you for your time! Great and interesting information, coming from a pilot is very comforting, truly appreciated 🎉❤
Glad it was helpful!
I love these videos with your husband. So much good information from the source!
I think once I watched a video that addressed the issue of terrified flyers. I wasn't one of them, but I have my moments. One of the things that comforted me was when they pointed out is that an airplane wants to fly, it is built to fly and it is destined to fly. That might sound obvious, but by thinking of it in that way it just made me more comfortable.
These videos with your husband really help re: flying anxieties. Thank you both!! Love this channel!!
So glad!
Laurie, you read my mind! We’re planning a trip to Hawaii and I’ve been anxious about many of these issues. I’ve not flown for several years. Thank you for posting this!
Thanks, Laurie & Capt. Chris, I love to fly & I’m always glad to see these really informative videos you 2 provide for us.
Where I live in Queens, NYC, I am often in the landing pattern for La Guardia Airport: the landing gear is usually deployed by the time they’re over my house, but I swear I can hear them “downshifting” as they prepare to make the final turn into the airport. It’s so cool!
Thanks again!
You know the sounds too? He loves them.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I’m just guessing that’s what that sound is since I can see the wheels are already down. But I can understand why the Captain loves them!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU to "Mr. Pilot"... likely your husband !!!! His input is very valuable. I love your channel and your tips. I am having spine surgery so I chose 1st class because of the extra space. The best I think. I am concerned about turbulance. when I fly I always have my belt buckled. Praying Im not in the tiny bathroom during turbulance.
Great advice and people really should look at the weather apps, we all have them. I hear so many yelling at the airline and if they just looked at their weather apps they'd see why many flights are delayed or cancelled.
Always enjoy your videos. Great topics. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences!
These videos are very helpful for a nervous flyer. I love takeoff but hate landing. It just feels so perilous, like the plane could be blown off the runway at any second while landing!
This is a very informative video about the fear of flying. I try to learn something new and gain more courage with every ✈️
Loved seeing the two of you!
Great video, thanks to both of you for the information.
Having a pilot actually explain things, the causes, and reassurance is so valuable. Thank you so much.😊
Glad it was helpful!
THANK YOU BOTH. 😊 Very calming discussion, this.
I appreciate his time to sit down and answer our questions. Thank you both. He didn't really answer your question though when you asked what he could say about turbulance that could calm us down. He said they didn't want anyone to get hurt😔
I was hoping he would say it's truly nothing more than a bump in the road for a car and that it is nothing to fear
God Bless you two! Thanks for sharing this with us!
Thank you for your time and great answers.
Our pleasure!
I take Dramamine before a flight it helps with my nerves.
thanks for answering all those questions!
T or F: Airplanes are built to withstand much more turbulence than we realize.
look forward to your next video✈️ thank you!
My brother and my son are both pilots in the majors and I am a nervous flyer! Makes me so frustrated! My son said I just need to get my private pilot license so I can explain to my brain what is going on and that it is nothing to worry about 😂 It is cheaper to have your husband explain it 😆
I’ll tell you one thing that’s NOT helpful…just took our 4 grandkids to Destin, FL. 14, 12, 12 and 6. One of the 12 year olds pretty much was amping up into an anxiety attack waiting to board. As we’re walking past the little desk in the terminal by the boarding door, she was visibly teary, shaking and said, “Is it going to crash?!” The two 20 something girls at the desk laughed and said, “What a question!” NOT HELPFUL. I mentioned her anxiety to the FAs and they offered her to see the pilot but she said “No!” I think the thought of 1) bothering him/her and 2) being scared of what she’d see in the cockpit would be overwhelming. The FA came by a bit later and just engaged her in some light conversation. That was nice. If I would’ve had time to mention the behavior of the 2 gate girls to someone at the airport, I would have…in a nice way, but still would’ve made someone aware!
Oh no!
What were they to say?
Wow! very informative!
Great video! Thank you!! Blessings!
Same to you!
I appreciate having an experienced pilot answering these questions. 👍
Our pleasure!
Great information…thx to both of you!
Our pleasure!
Lots of good information. Thank you.

You two are so cute! Thanks so much for easing my mind.
Any time!
Thanks you guys. That was great!!! xxx
Hey D2!
Thank you!!
Always a good time when The Pilot is a guest on your channel! :D. P.s. I hate turbulence, too!!
Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm a very nervous flyer after a horendous flight in Cairns, Australia about 20 years ago. I hate turbulance and I'm getting ready to go on vacation with my daughter in 2 weeks and this vacation includes 11 flights and 3 different countries. Thanks again! Love your video's.
Great video!
Thank you for your advices
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this video. Very informative!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video and always nice seeing your hubby. I love and I need your white drink mug. I was staring at it the entire video.
Thanks! It's one of those rechargeable heating mugs on Amazon.
Very interesting! Tell your hubby "Thanks"!
Will do!
Thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching!
Thank you both. You really help me with my anxiety. (And you are so cute.)
I really enjoyed that- thank your hubby for me!
Great Video thanks Laurie and Mr Pilot
Hope it helps!
Thank you both for your great service.👍
Thank you too!
That was great having your pilot husband speak. Good information!
Thank you!
The scariest parts for me are take off and landing. Landing when it feels like the plane is bouncing along the runway (I don't think it is?) makes me extremely anxious. And yet, I love to travel! I always say I love to travel, I just hate getting there. 🤣
I have not flown since the 1980’s. Since then we have had 911. So much has changed since then.
My problem is, I know nothing about booking a flight or the order in which I would have to do things. So I watch videos on how to pack and the rules and regulations.
Is there a way or a person than can walk us through the process? I’m near Chicago but my town does have a smaller airport that’s like 15 minutes from my house.
My main problem is anxiety. The people and the not knowing where to go or being late.
Do any of the airports have people who can help me get around? I have come so far in getting the courage up just to even consider flying.
Thank you both for all your help.
One small step at a time.I find when trying to accomplish something new or something I haven’t done in a long time is to find all the steps separately, digest and move on to the next step so it’s not so overwhelming.Good luck and happy travels. 👍
Very informative! Thanks! I love flying, just the rarely turbulence that we encounter makes me anxious..When that happens, i start praying again and again, until it ends. ❤
July 15 is my first flight after 30 years because of fear of turbulence 😢
Okay be sure to watch the other video that popped up all about turbulence.
Travel day! Hope that all went well for you!
My friend on the west coast takes enough Benadryl to knock herself out for the flight to Europe. Once she gets there, she is fully rested with no jet lag. 🤷🏼♀️
One question I've had is why do you need to be at the airport an hour earlier if you are flying international? 3 hours vs 2 hours?
Hi, just because usually you have to show your passport somewhere first in a line. Then you board the flight 50 mins sometimes before departure, and long lines in security.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Ah, that makes sense. I know I would rather wait at the airport some than miss a flight, especially an international one!
This is awesome and you’re both so cute.
Thank you!
I love your channel and I love when you bring your husband in. This was great. I started a new job last year in which I fly often which is what brought me to your channel. My personal fear is the public disregard for airborne peanut allergy people (me!). I carry multiple epi pens, Clorox wipes, wear two N95 masks and I offer to buy all the people around me snacks from the plane if they brought peanuts. That’s usually about 18 people. Most people are kind but those who are not are scary rude. I’ve never flown overseas yet. Just wanted to share. THANK YOU for your channel!
That is so nice of you!!! Maybe you could tell the f/a as you board that you’re highly allergic.
Sit in front of the wings, breathing exercises, fasten seat belt, tell the flight attendant You're a nervous flyer, don't drink sugary or caffeinated drinks before flight
I always get an exit row seat for the extra legroom. BUT seeing those wingtips flex up and down always makes me imagine the stress is going to snap one off. Can't watch those anymore! LOL
I agree
I love this video. Learning about something I've been doing since I was baby (52 years)is interesting and educational. I don't know what the total opposite of a fearful flyer is, but whatever it is that's me. In a pinch I'd very likely be able to do the "safety lecture" complete with gestures an demonstrations. In fact I've aplogologized to the flight attendant for laughing during the lecture because I'd listened to George Carlin's airlines announcements routine before boarding and that's what I was "hearing" during the lecture. Honestly, I'm probably too comfortable/relaxed on a plane. Not sure if that's good or bad though.
Hey, it takes all kinds! Have fun!
Hi, I really appreciate you & your husband answering flight questions. Can he explain why turbulence seems so much worse on flights near Asian countries lately. The news has had things about major injuries for passengers & crew? Should I expect it’s almost certain flying round that area.
Q.2 (if that’s ok) when you’re on a long flight who decides when to turn the lights off? My daughter left U.K. at 12.30 (lunch time) & went to Thailand & they turned the lights off straight after food all the way?
Q.3 If you want to sleep but don’t want to miss your food is there a way to ask them to wake you up or on the opposite not wake you up for food? (I’ve heard first class has that but for us normal passengers is there anything in place to help us)?
Thanks again to both of you, it’s always really interesting.
I’m going to Ireland in August and I gotta tell you I’m a lot nervous, I’ve never been over the ocean and haven’t flown in aboard 20 years😅
Anytime I hear about turbulence, I’m reminded of the clip from the movie Unconditional Love. (I’ve only seen the clip, not the whole movie.) There’s serious turbulence on the plane, and everyone is nervous. Julie Andrews is on the flight, and she goes storming into the cockpit, gets on the microphone, and sings “Getting to Know You” to calm everyone down. Soon everyone is singing. It’s funny and sweet.
I’ll just have to listen to Julie Andrews if I encounter turbulence on my next flight.
Thanks for all the answers to questions. My question is is it worth upgrading to the comfort seats like Delta comfort plus?
Hi, for a long flight, I would.
I’m like you, Laurie, although I work on counting to 27 😊
Thank you for this, Laurie! I appreciate how Chris explains things in easy to understand ways. As it relates to jetlag ... what's your advice for those who work third (overnight) shift? I'm asking for myself. I'm Andrew.
We just do not know.
This makes me feel a little better about going on a 9 hour trip to Italy form NY in September. I'm a nervous flyer and am trying to figure out how to remain calm.
Yes, download Netflix for when over the water or grip a real book.
I was on a flight from Sydney, Australia to Honolulu that encountered a lot of turbulence. I was seated in the middle of a 747. I was thankful that a deadheading pilot was next to
me. I observed him often to see if he seemed concerned. He was very relaxed the entire flight which made me feel safe.
They are the first ones I look at!
Thank you for this video, I have to admit I was a little concerned with the news and Boeing, this made me feel better
I'm so glad!
Wish knowing the feds are involved was reassuring for me but it isn't. I heard from an engineer who worked for Boeing for decades that even 15 years ago they were doing stupid stuff not rooted in good engineering.
Laurie, you mentioned being worried about landing. Have you landed at Logan? There is one runway that seems to go right into the ocean, and it always feels like you are just about to come down in the water!
Hi, I have not.
I switched to flying Airbus and Embraer - I’m not a nervous flyer
Thank you for sharing this useful information. Thankfully, I am not a nervous flyer (except that I feel anxious due to my claustrophobia. In Canada you have to pay anything from an extra $50-$100 to book an emergency exit or bulkhead seat, and they'll still move you if they think you might not be up to helping. Luckily I still look like someone who would be useful in an emergency! BTW, are you guys in the path of the hurricane? Please know, you are in my prayers, as is everyone in the path of the storm.
My fear is just losing power. It seems small; we're 30 mins north of Houston center.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Glad you are safe. There are lots of easy ways to deal with power loss! Do you have some vessels filled up with water just in case?
@@jenharvey8360 Hi, we do.
What is touchdown speed??
I insisted that my daughter leave her seatbelt on in case of turbulence, especially after the Singapore flight that hit bad turbulence earlier in the year.
❤❤❤❤
I know i shouldn’t be… but anxiety doesn’t go off logic lol
I love to fly! But hate delays, ugh. I understand things happen, but so frustrating. And why do airlines overbook?
My fear is of NOT flying 😂
I'm not a frequent flier, but I am always so stressed by the thought of having to use the toilet. They announce repeatedly not to queue for the toilet, however everyone does, and if I do not join the queue, I'd never get to go. I even get seats near the back of longer flights so I have better line of sight and a chance to get up if I see a larger group headed down the aisle. What are we supposed to do to not break the rules but still have a chance? Recently I was on an international flight and there were only two toilets for all of economy, there was rarely a moment that someone wasn't queued.
Yes, I hear ya b/c I am always in those lines. Some have gone up to the first class one if busy.
one thing nervous fliers should keep in mind is if they hear the landing gear going up, that means the pilot is happy with the takeoff. and then the throttles will come back, because the airplane isn't fighting the drag from the landing gear.
This is just my opinion when getting off the plane take one side of the plane let them get their over head luggage and get of the let the other side get off and there won’t be so much confusion when each side is trying to get their luggage.
Can you ask him if they have an experienced pilot on every flight? I flew last month & I really was nervous due two very young-looking pilots.
Hi, with so much testing etc, they have to be experienced.
Ahhhh, the boat shown in the video is from Thailand. The words transliterated to English is Siri Ruang Chok 😀
Thanks for the info!
