  • In this video, Rafael reviews the Seiko SBSA005, a stainless steel Seiko dive watch with a black dial, black bezel, and full steel bracelet. Moreover, this model is manufactured in Japan. This same model can be purchased under the reference number SRPD55 if it is not made in Japan.

    00:00 Introduction & First Look On The Wrist
    At a first glance on the wrist, the SBSA005 is on the larger side though it wears very comfortable nonetheless. The full steel, three-link bracelet goes a long way in balancing the watch on the wrist and making it feel very adequately sized.
    01:10 Case Specifications
    As measured with calipers, the case specs of the SRPD55 and SBSA005 are:
    - 42.5mm in diameter
    - 46mm lug-to-lug
    - 13.4mm thick
    - 22mm strap size (between the lugs)
    The stainless steel case also boasts a high-polished finish on its case flanks and a contrasting, brushed/satin finish on the top of the case.
    The bracelet and clasp likewise follow the theme of the case in that the top and bottom are brushed and the sides of the links are polished.
    02:13 Brief Visual Comparison With SKX007J
    03:40 Unidirectional Diver's Bezel
    The steel bezel of the SRPD55K1 rotates unidirectionally and has a black metallic insert. This insert has a black background and a diver's scale in silver color. The bezel is also textured on its outside surface to provide additional grip.
    This SBSA005 (and the SRPD55K1) have a scratch-resistant and shatter-proof Seiko Hardlex crystal protecting the face of the watch.
    04:47 SBSA005/SRPD55 Black Dial
    The dial of the Seiko 5 Sports SRPD55K! has a flat black finish and is surrounded by a slanted rehaut that is marked by printed, silver minute markings.
    The dial also has applied hour indices that have a polished finish. These are filled with green Seiko LumiBrite material that can be seen to shine quite brightly in the video, even in a well-lit space.
    The hands at center match the polished finish of the indices and also have a ton of lume.
    06:12 Made In Japan Print On Dial
    Since the model used in this review is the SBSA005, it is made in Japan and this fact is reflected by some small text under the 6 o'clock index. The SRPD55K1 would not have this printing on its dial. Nevertheless, both watches have exactly the same design and mechanical performance, the only difference is the place of manufacture.
    Seiko 5 Sports watches that are made in Japan also have Japanese (Kanji date) as a secondary day language. The SRPD55K1 is very likely to have Spanish as the secondary language, with English being the primary language.
    07:53 3-Link Steel Bracelet
    The bracelet is composed of hollow steel links that taper down from the case to the folding clasp. The clasp is very secure and will not open without both "buttons" on the sides of the clasp being depressed.
    09:35 Seiko 4R36 Movement
    The Seiko SRPD55K! and SBSA005 are powered by an automatic (self-winding) Seiko 4R36 caliber. This movement has a 41-hour power reserve, hacking seconds functionality, crown-winding functionality, +45/-35 secs/day accuracy, and can be seen through the crystal caseback.
    The 4R36 also has some very attractive finishing on its bridges which is hardly ever encountered in an automatic watch at this price point.
    11:16 Water Resistance
    Since the crown on this Seiko SRPD55K1 doesn't screw into the case, the water resistance is limited to 100m or 330ft.

    if I were to buy the SRPD55K1 (that is not made in Japan) will the watch still have the Japanese lettering on the days of the week?

    • @Bespokeunit
      @Bespokeunit  Před rokem +2

      The versions that are not Made in Japan usually do not have the Japanese calendar as the second language. However, you can always buy the English/Japanese datewheel online and then find a local watchmaker to change it out for you (if you do not have any watchmaking experience.)

    I just bought mine and wanted to know how to properly set the date and time. The days are in English and Spanish which im assuming this particular watch is not made in Japan. Can you give a tutorial on how to set properly?

      Hey there,
      We made a video on how to set a seiko turtle, but it is the exact same procedure/mechanism. Check it out here: czcams.com/video/-ZCcTfWjnxE/video.html

    Does this wear more like a 40mm, i know they make a smaller version at 38mm but think that may be to small

    • @Bespokeunit
      @Bespokeunit  Před 2 měsíci +1

      From my experience, I'd say it wears larger than most 40mm, but I suppose this depends on what you're used to wearing.

    Good looking watch, but the dots only covering a 4th of the bezel just looks weird to me. I wish the crown was a screw down too lol. I guess I just miss the SKX007

    • @Bespokeunit
      @Bespokeunit  Před rokem

      Aside from the screw-down crown difference, the 5KX is just as customizable as the SKX, so you could arguably swap out the bezel insert for another one of your preference.

    • @Bespokeunit
      @Bespokeunit  Před rokem

      Hello,
      There will be very few differences between the SBSA005 reviewed here and the Green version of this watch. Of course, the dial and bezel are green instead of black. Additionally, given that this is the Made in Japan version of the watch, it has a date wheel in English and Kanji. Depending on the Green version that you purchase, the second language may be different, but English will always be one of them.

    How to prevent bracelet from scratches?

    • @Bespokeunit
      @Bespokeunit  Před rokem +1

      Hello,
      There's really no way to prevent the scratches. Instead, embrace them! This is a sports watch, it's made to take bumps and keep on going. I guess you could switch out the bracelet for a strap but the case of the watch would still become worn over time.

      When the watch stops, winding it manually doesn't bring it back working, it needs to be worn first. That's the issue I am facing. Thanks for asking.

    • @Bespokeunit
      @Bespokeunit  Před rokem

      @@anuragkhosla It sounds like something is broken inside. Just to confirm - you're manually winding it with the crown at the "0 position", so the position where it's closest to the case?
