This can be seen from the difference in the notches where the oars are placed. The bandit's boat is destroyed during the monster's first attack. We see its debris rising when the monster surfaces.😊

Fun fact: If you're a Black Sails fan, you'll be happy to know One Piece was filmed on the same set in South Africa. They even repurposed the same ships.
For Koby, it is worth noting that he is a really brief cameo in the anime for this part of the story. He plays a larger role later in the story, which I am sure the live action is trying to build up to preemptively given the length of the series. but that's basically why he lacks story arc this early in the story: they made him far larger than he was in the original material. This is in part because they brought Garp's appearance forward in order to tie these early arcs together more in the live action: the family relationship is originally revealed at only several hundred episodes down the road. Regarding the fishmen... they do have a story that will be told. You are just not ready for it yet. :)
One Piece is simple when it comes to whether a character ate a devil fruit or not. If there is a physical transformation, it is a devil fruit (elasticity for Luffy, fragmentation for Buggy). And what's more, the fruit is always announced in one way or another. When there is no transformation or announcement, it is only an innate ability or acquired through training (Kuro, Arlong, Mihawk, Garp).
I like your reaction to this series, I watched the anime version after I finished watching the live action, and I've already finished it, now following the ongoing. the last part is a spoiler for the enemies in the next arc, can't wait for s2 🥰

Fun thing about Luffy: Most Shonen protagonists don't kill their villains because that'd make them just as bad as their villain. Luffy doesn't kill his villains because he considers it a fate worse than death to see your dreams crumble before your eyes. He doesn't have the required kindness to kill them!
Something I always like pointing out about Axe hand Morgan, is that in the manga, his son, Helmepo, has a butt chin and his hair grows awkwardly into what you see after his "haircut" so obviously, Morgan has those traits too, and he hides those features with his metal jaw and a buzzcut. It's really cool to see reasons behind a character's appearance, especially if it's a weird one like a certain hard-boiled gentleman.
That’s not why Morgan has the metal jaw. In the manga & anime, we learn that Morgan had his jaw broken by Kuro, who left him alive in order to hypnotize him & one of Kuro’s crew members in order to fake his death.
Without Usopp's long nose, a lot of jokes around it won't be possible, some of which are among the funniest in the series to me, but nevertheless I think this decision for the live action is for the best. My favorite of these jokes is in one arc, there is a character who also has a long nose. However, the nose is square and he looks completely different from Usopp, but everyone mistakes him for Usopp just because of their nose length.
The only bad thing about Garp is that he follows a corrupt system, but he still believes that the Marines are the force that prevents absolute anarchy & that he can change the system from within.
I'm sure you've been told everything by now haha, but in the anime, Garp is one of the single strongest beings on the fucking planet. He never fought luffy like that, per se, but he absolutely would have one shotted luffy at that point in the story haha
About if you eat the devil-fruit user, do you get their abilities: there is one case in One Piece where that does seem to have happened, but it isn't absolutely confirmed, just strongly suggested.
As a lifelong One Piece manga fan, I certainly have my problems with the live action. However, it's a still a great adaptation and an excellent jumping on point for new fans. I can without reservation recommend it as it's both high quality and captures the spirit of One Piece.

the syrup village arc was almost completely remade thats the episodes with kuro the black cat pirates and kaya. as for ussop yeah in live action he needs to have a normal nose we all knew they would change that and its the correct choice its impossible to take it seriously if he had that in live action we are all glad they changed it even the fans. there are a few things i didnt like that they changed django doesnt exist luffy doesnt get hypnotized and go on a rampage we miss the scene where ussop gets beat nearly to death to save the village and kaya but on the other hand a lot of the changes were very good as well i like the horror aesthetic and it taking place in kayas mansion instead of the ports and they added that nami was low key hating on kaya she never did that but its a good addition and expands her character. it was decent enough for me to enjoy and didnt really mess with the main story much i mean django is basically a joke character he comes back but hes never really important even if i do like him. the changes were exceptable. other than that its mostly the same besides the whole garp and luffy thing that doesnt get touched on until way later in the story and no one had any clue about it.
One piece doesn't really have angels and devils outside of the way we have them in the real world, except taken to the extream. Well... mythical zoans are a thing so they kind of exist.

The basic quest in every episode is Luffy and the crew winning the suspicious of people who hate pirates because pirates literally ruined their lives. Nami thinks Luffy is not a pirate because he is nice. Being a nice pirate isn't the norm in this world. Zoro killed pirates because marines gave money to people to off them, that would not make him an asshole if pirates were the good guys? Heck, even the pirates who are nice are suggested to be ruthless killers in the past (like the chef). And you think is so weird Kobi sticks to his dream to stop piracy when the 90% of the pirates we see are terrible people and the other 9% are people with a code but still not exactly good guys and just the 1% is Luffy?
Multiple Spoilers... they stole gold leaving skypiea (they didn't know people want to gift them, so it count as a steal 😅) but, seriously... they assault enies lobby to free Robin He hit a celestial dragon in the face at sabaody then Luffy infiltrate Impel Down, causing a massive prison break and finally partecipate in a war against the gov at Marinford I think all this stuffs count as "piracy acts" 😂

They're wearing their manga exclusive clothing from various chapters.
Some are outfits they wear in those specific arcs even in the anime, others are from cover pages, which is a nice detail from the manga.

There's definitely fishmen backstory but it's in Fishman Island arc which is a long way to go but take your time 😉
