    Hawk, you are wrong about the CB of choice in later wars against Ming. Whereas "Show Superiority" is useful in the first war, each war after that should be with "Take mandate of heaven" CB. 50% cost reduction to take provinces means you can take a lot more and scale much more quickly. You don't get the mandate just by winning the war, you actually have to take it in the peace deal. So just make sure you don't actually take the mandate, but keep declaring war for the mandate.

    Livonian Order / Livonia would be a fun guide. They have an interesting start with the Clergy estate being a mess at the start and then can either go crusader or become Livonia and get the "Almost Prussian Blue" achievement

    • @heisenstein6392
      @heisenstein6392 Před rokem +7

      Absolutely, it was my 2nd run in Lions of the north and Livonia was an absolute blast. You basically destroy the 3 great powers - Muscovy, PLC, and Kalmar union. Then, you make Baltic the richest node in the game and you customize your own starting gov reform to get the Militarization mechanic. Pair that with Livonian ideas, it's absolute bonkers. Also, very VERY nice map color!
      Pro-tip: Take 1 Finnish province and release Finland as march, also make Ryazan a march. In my run, by 1700, Finland had developed its lands to like 350 dev and Ryazan had an awesome military and can eat a lot of Orthodox provinces too!

      When you form Livonia you get to make your government reform out of like 15 or so options, and one of them is similar to the Prussian Monarchy and enables militarization.

      I heard a fun thing to do is to expand into Southeast Asia, culture shift to Lao and form Siam while staying a horde for cavalry bonuses. Then culture shift back to Manchu but keeping Siamese ideas so you get access to banners.

  • @FerramusNL
    @FerramusNL Před rokem +105

    I'm not sure on taking Tribal Conquest instead of Take MoH CB. Warscore cost with MoH CB is 50% compared to the full 100% for tribal conquest, and as a horde you can easily take full war score of money and provinces because razing removes so much overextension. I didn't encounter any problems having to siege a lot more to get 100% war score instead of just killing their armies to get war score. Might take a year or two longer, but the results are also much bigger.

    • @heisenstein6392
      @heisenstein6392 Před rokem +8

      After the first war, Take MoH CB is the way to go. 50% cheaper lands means you can annex a LOT more land, a lot faster! It's also worth it to beeline to other Ming tributaries such as Kham in the 2nd war to keep hitting Ming in quick succession (by reducing the truce to 5 yrs).

By 1500 or so, you're typically blobbed out enough to make any war a non-issue. A good way to prevent that is snaking the outskirts of Ming from the start. It’s easier to do w/ Oirat/Mongolia. As you only have to snake directly south to Dai Viet. A big issue with playing as a horde and taking the Chinese emperorship is that a lot of it is contradictory or just doesn't work. An example is what I just mentioned, but also Ming allying Korea and/or Delhi or some other strong Indian nation which cucks you over big time. Seems very futile and not worth it a lot of the time.

That's because, if they remain a Ming tributary, they can't ally them, and you can use them to shorten your truces with Ming or destroying them further without having to fight on two fronts when tou fight Ming directly. If they become your tributary, they will sooner or later ally Ming, and you'll have to fight both nations every time. You can do it if you want, but it's a little bit annoying.

      It doesn't really warrant a guide, get a colony in the area and release and play as colonial subject.

    You should have actually annexed both nations. And just cored 20. Then you could form Manchu without coring those provinces and wouldn't have to worry about a truce

      Build forts for the Korean border and leave some 10-20 stacks of pure infantry to gruad it and have some reserves to reinforce the troops at the forts also make sure some the forts are along side of the river

    Parts of this guide felt kind of out of character for you, Hawk. I could be wrong about some of these things, and I'm absolutely open to hearing the rationale behind some of them, but especially with your previous Manchu guide doing some of these things differently it felt weird.
    Tribal conquest for the first Ming war makes sense because you don't really have the manpower to do a lot of sieging in the first war, but once Ming is beaten once, future wars are trivial, and spending a few extra years to siege a few more forts and using take mandate instead of tribal conquest pays off, a lot.
    Assuming you were razing provinces you took (which you might not have been, Ming provinces are rich, so fair enough in that case) going over 100% overextension matters not at all when taking from Ming after the first war (or frankly, taking from anyone in any war as a horde). Concentrating dev and razing means you can probably take yourself up to 150%+ overextension and still end up below 100 at the end of the day. I'm not sure why not wanting to go over 100 overextension was emphasized in the guide, when after razing what you took you probably dropped to ~65.
    Conquering along the coastline also feels weird. It's less weird if you don't want to snake at all, which is fine, but scooping around Ming's northern, western, and southern borders blocks off the other nations that might smell blood when Ming is weak and try to take stuff from them, or take the mandate, which would be disastrous. It also opens up 2 or 3 new routes of expansion for you, and makes it so that any Ming breakaway states will only border you.
    Love the guides in general. Watching this one just felt a bit strange with these things in mind.

    I am still not sure why people don't like to take the mandate. Not only do you get the unify china CB which is extremely good. You get 500 gov cap from the celestial empire and the reforms you can pass come with a lot of buffs. On top of that you get some decree's with more buffs. There are essentially no downsides as long as you only pass reforms at 100 mandate. Yet despite all that people don't wanna take the mandate? The fuck.

    odd that english speakers try to pronounce chinese "j" like the french "j", it's almost the same as the english "j", while the "zh" consonant is more like the french "j".
