I've been playing June's Journey for about three years now! I highly recommend it. I have never spent a cent and have been able to play and enjoy the game with no problem. If people are on the fence about trying it, just do it! It's really good fun.
Hooked for years. Enjoy THE Journey.
Been playing June's Journey for 5 years. Hooked on the game.
@@deborahwilliams6065 I know what you mean. My husband says it’s my addiction. Lol. I’m in Lillysu group. Check me out. LaNita Bryant.
I’ve been playing JJ for 6 years now. It’s my guilty pleasure!😂❤
Now that's a cliffhanger! Will we find out in the next Chateau Diaries if the roasted black radish dish was a striking success or a cooking calamity?
I love when you geek out and I get a history lesson in fabric! ( why I love your channel) Please continue to share details of finishings! Also can you update us where all the house projects are? Heating, floor/ceiling issues etc.
Yes, that would be great
And the lake!
Amaury is working on the boiler room and vent. Stephanie said channel 4 DIY program would let her show some work already done soon on a staff/ extra bedoom.
I agree. I love learning about curtains, porcelain, history and all. And then watching how Stephanie pulls it all together.❤❤❤
Just wanted to write to let you know how I appreciate these frequent vlogs. You have no idea the amount of comfort it brings in my life. Truly, thank you ❤
As every seamstress and quilter knows, a sewist's best friend is one's seam ripper! I have several, located in strategic places!
Interesting observation that there is a difference between French and English curtains. Watching you eat the melted cheese on fresh baguettes made me drool. Stay warm.🙏❤️
Poor Philip and his allergies. I love cheese.
Stephanie, I feel like you could write a whole dissertation on curtains ✨
like anna and philip with classes.
Your curtains will always be lovely Stephanie full or slimmer style but, the advantages of the pelmet and the extra fabric are that it generally keeps more cold air out of the room in winter :). - says the woman going back to bed in five layers and a velour dressing gown as it’s -3 outside 🥶. ( I really feel the cold !)
Good point about keeping out the cold.
Also, the pelmets might function to block any light coming in from the top of the curtains. If one can only sleep in complete darkness, a perfectly sealing pelmet helps, in addition to the blackout lining of the curtains. Unless there are shutters that provide perfect closure.
Lalande has outside shutters, not really used. Stephanie has started adding internal shutters. Isabelle and Michael's rooms have them. ❤
Natie's HAIR, stunning
Enjoyed the catchup today. Years ago I worked at a whitewater rafting company in the USA. I have always sewed and agreed to do a life jacket alteration for a friend but my seam ripper had broken. He went into town to get thread and a new seam ripper and came back indignant that no one knew what a seam "thrasher" was! Fortunately a patient clerk had deduced from his explanation what was required and sent him back with a ripper! I never pick up my "thrasher"(a frequent event) without a smile.
Thrasher! Haha! I wouldn't have a clue what that.was!
That's funny.
English terms and Americanisms can be quite different. Bonnet is hood to Americans, boot is trunk, and those are just some of the ones that immediately come to mind. I was married to an Englishman in the 90s and it took him a while to adjust. I preferred it when he stuck to his way of saying things as I thought it quaint, but in order to communicate in public he had to adjust. Reminds me of the song "You say tomato, I say tomato... Let's call the whole thing off"
~ Tara (kindlydude's wife)
As an American I love hearing the British words for things. Unpicker for what we call Seam ripper or ripper. So cool! First time hearing that one. Love your videos!
Tomato, tomateo. 😂❤ 🏴 x
Yes, the French style of curtains is simpler, but I would keep the yellow curtains as you’ve already made them, they are really beautiful. And you’re French and English, so it makes sense that both would be reflected in your design. I get a kick out of your little dog, he’s absolutely adorable and so affectionate. He’s so small you can walk around wearing him in a pouch all day. So cute. And the Chapel is magnificent. Looking forward to an exciting year
I've always thought your draperies were lovely. You have a talent.
Cold is so relative. My relatives near Edmonton, Alberta suffered from a ‘polar vortex’. Temperature was -50C & with the wind chill it felt like -64C. Here in Mississauga, Ontario, our temperature was cold for us yesterday. Temperature was -10C & felt like -18C. I thought that that was plenty cold enough. But we have no snow 👍🏻🇨🇦
❤ 🏴
Stephanie, one thing to remember is your very cold winters, blanket lined curtains will keep the cold out which I suspect is why they are so heavily used in the UK, especially as you have single glazing as well. You will lose a lot of your heat through the window. I roast the golden beets but slice in the round keeps all the sweet flavour, only every see them in the shops in France though.
What ever happened to the small tiles that Steve was he was going to do with your father’s painting on them?
Weather report from central Canada: It's minus 22 and with windchill it feels like minus 32 Celcius. "But it's a dry cold" as we like to say here! LOL
I always feel like I need to deep sigh at the end of each video. Each is so fun to feel a part of life at the chateau.
The pelmet timber always helps to keep your room warmer, with curtain poles you will always get a draught from the window leaking up and around. I realise your idea is to make it more french, but i think being warm in winter is also a consideration, from Australia
Perhaps the new heating system and added insulation will result in less drapery fabric needed? Or are new windows also possibly in the agenda?
I dream of quilted blinds for my wintry windows in Chicago despite an unusually ‘warm’ winter 🥶🪟🌬️💨❄️☃️
'...and this is why we need a swimming pool!', she says, on a zero degree day. That's the definition of an optimist right there!
Lol my sister who is in Knoxville Tennessee and I am in way up north in Wyoming USA and we both play June's journey! She got me started over a year ago! Love it ! Stay warm it's been -30 and -45 below zero lol welcome to Wyoming!
It was -9° C last night here in north Texas (Dallas/Ft.Worth), so I can imagine how Nattie feels in a château heated by log burners. I remember winter in central France being bone chilling. Unbeknownst to me, the chauffage had been shut off in my bedroom before I moved in at the beginning of January.
If you look into the paintings of the old great masters, you notice the differences in houses from the UK to Europe. All older European houses have shutters inside, sometimes outside. Thick lavish curtains would block the shutters from closing. Hence the easier, thinner cutrains. Less heads and more draping.
I think I've just been schooled on curtains. Love the information.
I laugh in Canadian, -6 is positively balmy, it's been below -30 for almost a week now.
Whoa now that's cold. My Husband said it was freezing today in Devon -1 🏴 😮. !!! 😂 ❤ keep warm x
@@RosemaryOltarzewski It's a positively balmy -17 now; a 19 degree increase in 8 hours.
@@airenesmiler6624 keep warm. Spring not too far away 😊
@@RosemaryOltarzewski thanks!
My body would be shedding like a snake in that frost wow 😂
It feels so nice!!! As if something that I always owned was eventually saved for future generations to stare with awe and be inspired for as long as this jewel of a chapel stands...
The chapel..its so encouraging to see those guys knowing exactly what to do to make the whole chapel vault a complete success ..Totally in awe with all that's going on..
I am certain you are aware, but the reason there is so much curtain material around the bed is that they would close up the bed completely to keep warm in those unheated bedrooms. I learned this from "A Christmas Carol," the film from 1951, that is. The bedclothes are such a strong feature in this film, a subplot even!
Always love to see what's happening at the Chateau. Lasts nights program captured my attention because I am going to sew new curtains & wondered if you could give me the ISBN# & author for your books entitled "The American Day Encyclopedia of Curtains (found a lot that say Curtain Encyclopedia but none looked like yours) & The Swag & Tail Design & Pattern Book (Step by Step Instructions)" . Here in Northern Michigan we have over a foot of snow, windy conditions & severe cold. So, sewing would keep me busy. Just need some ideas. Thanks so much for your help. Congratulations to our sweet couple Nati & Amaury on your engagement!
You bring a smile to my face every time I sit down and watch your channel. Infectious cheerfulness.
Most people do not realize that the early Greek and Roman temples were also painted in beautiful bright colors. Imagine the Parthenon painted in the same gorgeous colors as your chapel. It was no doubt a beautiful sight. Keep up the good work. Someday when it is finished I will book some rooms and come see it.
Sooo lovely to see Nati & Amaury eating with Steph & PJ 🌻🌻
Hi Stephanie and all, what is happening to the new room/bathroom for Marie being made with the tub in the tower? do you have updates on that cool renovation area? thanks!
A question thought 💭
So the drapery revelation….
If you do reconstruct the drapery’s to a slimmer side panel on either side … you won’t be able to block out light and or keep the cold from coming into the space…
So I’m not living in your space but will that become a factor which you may Not be satisfied with
If you do in fact make those type of changes ???
A thought …
Writing from a frigid -35C with -45C windchill in Calgary Canada. Enjoying your vlogs while I keep my mind off of rolling power outages. Lovely to see everyone getting into some special projects!
Oh brrrr keep warm. ❤ 🏴
tell Natty that a small hot water bottle on the desk is really good for cold fingers. I also keep one well covered at the base of my back on the chair - helps all round with coldness in the office - another work from homer with heating bills lol
Its interesting that there is less fabric to he more French. The outdoor shutters help to block the sun on the am, and with insulation. I think the thicker curtains also help with keeping the room.warm?
Wow. So much content. The Chapel vault base plastering.
The curtains - I will be looking at curtains with a more educated eye rather than a quick glance.
The boiler room planned ceiling.
Little Lancelot and his infectious nature.
Impact of the weather. Temps below freezing.
Food options.
Always something new to consider
I just love all the drapes, I looked at them on your fb page earlier. The only thing to safely use on expensive material when sewing is a stitch unpicker, I learned from experience having made many curtains, furniture coverings and clothes for myself and family through my life. These days its a bit easier to give a quick steam clean to curyains and bed drapes than washing or dry cleaning. Please let us know what the Black reddish was like, I am so curious. While you are all freezing I am putting up with 22c at night time and 30c + during the day, having grown up in London and winter sports breaks in Scotland, Norway and Austria I think I prefer the heat at my age. Thank you for sharing the daily goings on at LaLande, keep warm 💕🇦🇺
I’m glad you’ve decided to do a more simple curtain. It does seem more in keeping with the French style.
It’s a quiet January, I’m sure it’s nice to have it all to yourselves for a bit.
Oh Steph! I so love and admire the work you’re doing with the chapel. Well, actually everything at the chateau, but most of all to me is the chapel. Amazing work - I don’t think I will ever see it when finished live, however looking at all you do is my favourite thing. Been following your vlog since it started. Love & best wishes to you all from Canada! It feels as though you are family! Bravo! 🇨🇦🤗👏👏💐❤️🙏🙏🇨🇦🥂for Natie & Amory congratulations!
Stephanie, you should make an online class on curtain making. I’d take it!!!
Is t she FAB???? I’d love doing classes with Steph as a teacher. So much passion for the topics 😊
Anyone wanting to know. Stephanie said in her patron video that the radish turned out delicious and was Philip's favorite part.
Thank you
That's kind of you to let people know
Loving the chapel, its coming along at such a pace, wonderful. Love the remnants of the snow. And the curtain research I love.
I bet Amauri could make beautiful wooden curtain rob holders for you. 😊
Lovely to hear such details of the contrast between French Chateau and British Stately home curtains - absolutely fascinating. As the owner of draughty 400 year old conjoined cottages, I am curious to know whether the fact that France was further south and presumably, mostly warmer than Britain and also, often had shutters, was partially to explain the differences?! The adventures at La Lande never cease to entertain!
Yes, Amaury needs a heater, poor baby.
He said he doesn't need one. If he did he could easily get one.
There is one by Natti's desk, so he and Molly can take a break there. ❤
The tool with the needles is called a "scribe" or "contour gauge".
So interesting that you noticed that difference. That’s how it is when you’re self-taught, huh? I had not noticed but it makes sense for the bed decoration to take center stage and in the pictures you showed the French style looks more balanced to me. Best of luck on your window project!
It is so awesome to get regular chapel updates.
That cheese lunch should come with a nap after.
I really was hoping to find out if that black radish was good or not?
Whatever you decide about the curtains, we all know they will look beautiful.
Lots of love.❤
There's no doubt, you are definitely a very creative person Stephanie Jarvis!!! When it comes to cooking, making curtains, embroidering with your new machine, decorating, restoring a chateau, and whatever else you put your hands to. Been watching you since the early days of the pandemic so I have seen ALL your creativeness, you are blessed!!! Just love that little Sir Lancelot, I don't know who loves the other most, Lancelot loves you or you love Lancelot!!! Glad Phillp talked you into getting a doggie in your life....they are the best friend!!!!
Lancelot is a little bundle of joy, and loves his parents unconditionally with mad joy! 🐕
Hi Stephanie, thank you so much for explaining the difference between french and English curtains. It's really important to be authentic ❤
Molding can either be done as he explained with a tool having thousand spikes or by using latex molding system
I am fascinated by your talent as a manager and planner. And you manage to maintain your wonderful smile and make everyone around you happy. You are incredibly wonderful dear Châtelaine.
I can’t resist telling you that where I live in Saskatchewan Canada it is -35C this morning, warming up to a balmy -25 tomorrow.😂
Omg now that's cold. My Husband said it was freezing here in Devon, England 🏴 only -1 😂 I'll tell him about where you live he might change his mind. 😂❤ keep warm
You are both so stylish and symbiotic. I like curtains that droop at the bottom.
What a way to think of the snowy day.
Raw black radish thinly sliced on a sourdough baguette with a spread of salted butter and some black pepper, delicious! When cooked it's more like a turnip.
Always busy. So productive. The curtains you make are insulated for a reason. The more insulation the better.
Thank you so much once again! 🫶💞🫶
Seam ripper tip from a video I saw. Insert the short side with the plastic ball under the stitching. It means you can just push without worrying about the pronged bit making a hole in ur fabric. A real game changer .
Funny such a fall man, scared of heights, iconic
To. Elgin with, as far as curtains go, I think more is … more and happily so. The curtains you have made already and, in particular, the swags and pelmets are nothing short of epic. However, and as a sewer myself, when I saw the tiny ripper (I own one myself. Who knew?) and the gargantuan task you faced with the bijillions of miles of curtain edge to be unpicked, my inner being shrunk to the size of a peanut. Your fortitude knows no bounds, my dear! It is almost ( but not quite) as big a job as Dan’s chateau renovation. Well, you know what I mean! I agree with you that Amaury’s gorgeous workshop is a wonder to behold. I expect nothing less of the man. And we all so enjoy the chapel progress updates. Thanks again!
It's a balmy -11 F in my hometown of Kansas City, MO, USA. Your -6 C sounds good to me! I expected the black radish to be black. I'm curious how it tasted. Looking forward to seeing the room come together!
I had that thought too! I’m in the PNW and we’ve had a cold snap, it hasn’t gotten above 12F in three days and we are averaging 3F… when our normal winter temps are mid 20s!
Great to see the plaster work being done on the Chapel. Wow! Stephanie you are very skilled at sewing these Chateau curtains, swags and pelmets.
Inquiring minds need to know how the Black radish turned out! I really enjoy learning about the curtains while being thankful I’ve no need for fancy drapery here in the midst of the mountains of Montana.
I would keep the curtains wider and continue to insulate because this is an old castle with single glazing
you can keep more heat in and I think your curtains always look great
I would check the books, but do my own thing
Love the heavy long drapes so lush extravagant!
Cosy Chateau nights in.❄🔥Mont D'or my fav cheese and I may be of the rare few but I love the aroma of French cheese filling the house. My mother tho begged me to take it out of her house when I left some in her fridge telling me it stank her house out LOL
My favorite part of the Chateau is and always been the Chapelle! The stained glass and now the artisans restoring the interior just overwhelms me with happiness - so thrilled you share this with the world (I'm in Tucson, AZ).
Dinner looked delicious! Love that they are working on the plaster in the Chapel already.
Stephanie try roasting the your veggies in the air fryer so much better. It's not often that you and Phillip have the Chateau all to yourselves (that we the viewers see) , enjoy your time together . I'm looking forward for all of the renovating videos of the Chateau guest rooms.
I don't really care much for cooking, & do eat quite simply. However, I do love a variety of well-flavored food = I would probably love most of everything that you or anyone else decided to cook at your chateau.
The French "narrow" curtain style is enlightening! The dinner you made looks fabulous and yummy! Thanks!
If we,in the Netherlands 🇳🇱, don't have enough fabric for curtains,we make ourselves some fake curtains. Those can not cover the whole window ,they leave a gap but just look like real.
This is so fun. I first found your channel when i was researching window treatments for my interior design studies back in early 2019. And now this comes in like a deja vue :D I´m really looking forward to see the transformation in bonne maman.
I like the pelmets and cornices! I think it makes everything much more opulent.
Yes another success with varied content, weather, food, dog, views, and interior design, plus history. Thank you for such an upbuilding vlog. WCL ❤
It is so fantastic to see the 💒 chapel coming back to life
It’s also been very interesting to see the process in action which was needed
What a great idea to raise funds for the paint work and other details as well
by buying a Star ⭐️
I am in Nashville. We never get snow to amount to much so everyone is going crazy here. It won't be above freezing here until maybe Thursday.
Steph, nice to have you back cooking and sewing as you’re so excellent at them. I also miss your blonde locks…
I can't imagine making curtains that long! All of the curtains and bed swags you've made in the past are really beautiful but I'm guessing the curtains you're getting ready to make will be easier and simpler. I love June's Journey! I'm on level 260 and play almost everyday.
Natty put a cup of unused ground coffee in your fridge. The grounds will absorb smells. ❤
Some baking soda in a jar, box etc helps absorb all odours 🇨🇦🐝
It’s true. I drove semis for many years. Refrigerated trailers, foods. If something left an odor behind, a few cans of cheap coffee sprinkled over the floor, few hours later, no smell.
@@beverley1539 coffee works much better, no offense
I will try all these tricks ! merci!😘
Amazing tip
Just a tric for Nati: there are odor filters for fridges to neutralize any odor. Check out if the brand of their fridge offers that as an accessory. If not, Miele offers them.
I love “radis noir” raw cut into fine slices and served with either a little Boursin, tarama or creamy tuna on top as a snack for the apéro 😋
What year was the ceiling originally painted in the chapel? The existing paint is so vibrant and beautiful. The decorative painting reminds me of the painting on the trim and ceiling in Sainte-Chapelle in Paris.
as if maybe schellacked?
I am quite emotional about what you have achieved in getting the chapel restored. I am also excited about the lake? Any news on that?
If you put a curtain over the entrance to the spiral stairs it would keep heat downstairs.
Hi Stephanie & Phillip, The rule of thumb that I learned over the years of making curtains and draperies is tripple the width of the window and enough length to "puddle" more or less based on personal taste. Also I never do pinch plete draperies, I do shired or rod pocket tops with a double hem to slide over a plain curtain rod. That gives a finished look without the need for a palmette or a valance. The finials, how ever have to be over the top depending on the rooom, either formal parlor or bedroom and the lining is always the same color to look uniform from the outside looking in. Mark & Scott
you DO make splendid curtains!
I love watching Artisans and how they recreate the mouldings that bring the vault like it was when it was built.
So interesting listening to how the template is used in the vault. Omw!! The melted Mont d or looks heavenly. Your supper looked delicious Stephanie😋
Now do they repaint the stars that are up there now? I was wondering because I would think the new stars and the blue of the ceiling would be so much more vibrant than the old ones.
I might try make my curtains now. Knowing you learned from books gives me hope. Can I do this? I think I can. Thank you. And getting beautiful material is half battle I now see. I gave always had a picker...
Stephanie, your curtains look better. You always have an eye for detail someways. You’re an overachiever but that’s not always bad I like your curtains that’s quite a talent that you taught yourself that’s even better you can patch yourself on the back. Good luck to you and all your stuff that you got to do
Sorry guys...not sorry 34C in Adelaide Australia. It's a nice day. Couldn't handle it that cold.
Amazing difference in curtains between countries....here we do ours to reflect heat & keep it out. So many differences....never thought about it. Happy curtain making
isn't the world amazing. Whoa that's hot. Keep cool. ❤😂 🏴
We're fine all geared up with ceiling fans & fully ducted a/c is normal in Australia. This time of the year we get in the 40C+ range & that's when we have the bushfires
I was hoping to hear your black radish review. Thinking maybe just OK? Yay the chapel ceiling update!
The roasted black radish was good. She shared it in the Patreon video.
Yes, I was too.
I’m a patreon. Guess I missed it.
Hunter and Hyland have wonderful poles
Used them in my design years ago
Nati needs a cheese preserver with an odour regulator. It's a game changer 😂
