    Very helpful info for in-person recording. One additional scenario that might make for a good video is recording a podcast with a guest who is connected via Skype or Zoom etc.

    When I use TC via HDMI + Rec Trigger... why am I limited to 48kHz?
    I really would like to record in 96kHz..

      It's much easier to receive a call via an online service like Skype or Google Hangouts. Depending on your location, Skype, Google Hangouts, etc. can provide you with a fixed number as a service. If you need to take a call from your phone, you will need to split the signal from your phone using two 3.5mm connector cables, connect the output into the Aux in near the headphone jack, and then run a cable from the Stereo out (on the left side of the MixPre) back to the phone. The easiest thing to make this possible is an iRig 2, which is relatively cheap. You may need a lightning to 3.5mm dongle or USB C to 3.5 mm dongle to connect the iRig to your phone if your phone has no headphone jack. Now, in the Outputs menu, select St Out and make sure all your inputs are sent to StOut EXCEPT the aux in.
      If you are doing the call on the computer, you'll need to be sure to send only your mic and the jingles back to the computer by selecting the appropriate channels in the USB channel settings under Outputs. In this case, you could actually use your phone or tablet for soundpad functionality with a single cable going to Aux in.
      For jingles, the easiest solution on a Mac is to buy the bundle from Rogue Amoeba that includes Farrago (a soundboard), Loopback (virtual audio routing), and Audio Hijack (a useful recording/routing utility). Audio Hijack can divert input from specified apps to specified USB outs. So, I believe you should be able to direct the output of the soundboard app to two channels on the MixPre (for stereo) or as a mono mix to one channel.
      With the MixPre-3 bear in mind that 2 out of 5 tracks are for the mix, so this leaves only 3 tracks for inputs. I think you can probably just manage mic, jingles, and phone if each track is mono. Not sure though, I don't have the MixPre-3.

      @AjushiPhotography Před 4 lety +2

      Dr. Maruti Sharma - the stereo out from the mixpre should go to the camera audio input - I have the EOS R mic input to just one click above zero - in “M” or manual mode on the EOS R you can hit info until you see the camera audio input - the mixpre audio should be gain staged as normal - with the camera input just one click above zero you should not clip - I hope this helps - it will also take me a few days to make and post a video since I am out for the holidays

    • @AjushiPhotography
      @AjushiPhotography Před 4 lety +1

      Dr. Maruti Sharma - as you are talking into the mic - the mixpre audio meters should be hitting around -12 dB (in the green with little or no yellow in the meters) adjust the gain knob as you are taking to reach a good level before recording - that is gain staging

I am looking at purchasing a JK Audio CellTap, however, I do not want to use a Headset w/built in Mic. The JK Audio Bluekeeper seems close and really cool, However I don't like the idea of the Bluetooth connect as it is always better with a wired connection.
