Former DUP leader in court over historic sex offence charges

  • Amid high security, the man who was the leader of Northern Ireland's second political party until last month, today appeared at Newry Magistrates Court.

    Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, who resigned as DUP leader after being charged last month, was at court to face a charge of rape and 10 other sexual offences.
    His wife Lady Eleanor was also charged with aiding and abetting in relation to the alleged crimes. Neither of them entered a plea.

      @@TheAngrychipmunk96 As local rumours have it (Ones which seem to be becoming more concrete each passing day), only 1 daughter has come forward, the other person he "Alledgedly" did his vile acts to was his very own niece, so not any better at all
      That being said, who knows how many people he has affected that have not come forward

    This isn't going to end well. There seems to be a LOT of evidence. £350 bail ? I threw a plastic cup at a Stoke City match against Leicester, and my bail was £500. Although , I'm not a Sir, nor a lady .....

Look how he's being treated, he's out on £350 bail, allowed to leave the country and is still addressed as Sir. Anyway, my comment doesn't mention that I think they are guilty, does it?     The DUP always had a fundamental character flaw. I'm entirely neutral on the Northern Ireland question, but that much was very clear to me a long time ago.

We now are turning puritan and judgemental. None of us know what really occured now do we? The word historic makes me sceptical. It makes no sense to me that accusers come forward years later and I truly believe that victims of rape would report such trauma pretty darn quickly!

      Exactly, and many ‘people’ will, whether he's innocent or not, because mud sticks. I have no idea whether there’s any truth to the allegations but my point is unless his accusers withdraw their accusations then there’ll always be people who’ll associate him with them, even if a jury finds him not guilty. I guess time will tell!
