- Today we're going through the shortest route through the Hanayama Coil puzzle solution.

The Coil puzzle is a level 4 out of a possible 6 on Hanayama's difficulty scale.
There are many different combinations of moves that eventually solve the coil puzzle, however, the four moves you're about to see is the shortest route to separating the gold and silver pieces.

This one was so frustrating. I got it off relatively quickly (by just messing with it). Getting it back on was WAY harder. I eventually did it (again, not through any sort of "method" just by messing with it). The only reason I looked up the solution is because I did get it on and off once, but hit a wall trying to get it back on the second time. Crazy to see the solution is pretty simple.

Hi Ross. Just reviewing some of your videos and I noticed you do not have a Dice solution. Do you plan on making one? Dice is one of my least favorite Hanayama puzzles due to its wobbly, unstableness. Keep up the good work!
Yeah, the Dice puzzle is on it's way. Should be done in a few weeks!
I tried the heart puzzle a while ago, also level 4, but found it a lot harder than this puzzle. Either I just solved this one quickly out of luck or I took an unnaturally long time to solve the heart puzzle, but maybe the levels branded on one of the boxes should be changed to more accurately represent the difficulty of the puzzle. This was really fun to make and thank you Ross for giving us so many wonderful tutorials for these tricky puzzles.

I didnt come here to see the full solution, but wondering if im doing something wrong. I got the puzzle today and i can not separate them. Is there something im doing wrong with the first click or have i got a bad puzzle?
I remember mine being really stiff at first. If you watch the video of me solving this one, it's probably the same thing you're dealing with.

Same. I'm a little disappointed since all Hanayama puzzles have clear "you don't need to use force" notices, but at least my Coil is stuck as all hell. I was convinced there was some sort of pin mechanism since the parts didn't want to separate and that made it even more so that I didn't want to force it.

I find it fascinating that the 2 pieces are not identical, and if you try your instructions flipped by holding the gold piece steady then it doesn't work. When you get the pieces apart you can see the silver piece has an extra 'ramp' cut into it. I totally got stuck being unlucky enough when trying learn this puzzle by working on it 'flipped'. Ingenious.
They're brilliant! How people come up with these in the first place is extremely impressive
which is the best hanayama that can be pretty difficult for a beginner who wants a challenge that will be fun and take some hours?
That's a tough one to answer. In terms of moves required, something like this video, the coil, or the Baroq may be good?

Literally on the last turn of re assembling it, my puzzle got jammed
That first/last move can be very stiff... it may just need a few goes doing it to loosen it up a little?

Hab es als Geschenk für meinen besten Freund gekauft, habs erstmal selber daheim probiert und bin völlig verzweifelt es überhaupt mal ein kleines Stück auseinander zu bekommen. Problem meins hat beim ersten Schritt krass geklemmt und ich musste ziemlich viel Kraft aufwenden. Jetzt is der erste Wiederstand weg und ich ärger mich das mein Bester dieses Problem nun nicht mehr hat😣. Wie ich ihn kenne hat der das in 5 min auseinander und ich hatte den fiesen kniff 😑.
Schickes Teil für das Geld, aber der Superkniff is nu verflogen... 🙄

My puzzle seems jammed together
At the start position? If yes, I found the same first time solving it. It needed a good bit of force to get going.
