Babymetal was, and still is, a game changer in japan. it's not overstated to say that there is a time before and after babymetal appeared... before, massive audiences like this engaging and going wild was unthinkable. before, having big success with metal was deemed impossible. before, having idols sing songs against bullying or about the female situation in japan was inappropriate. before, having success at european/american festivals was out of the question... and then, Babymetal happened.

Good choice for your second song. A full live performance may have been better for your first time seeing and hearing it than the compilation video, but fortunately this compilation is one that isn't too badly stitched together (there are some very bad ones out there, so avoiding them for first reactions would be advisable) and you got to see the crowds at some of their arena shows.
I was very happy to see 'Headbanger' on the set list for the UK and Europe tour in 2020 - this was a song I had always wanted to experience in person since the very first time I heard it and saw a live performance video. It did not disappoint.
As already said in the comments, 15 marks the end of compulsory education in Japan and the passing of childhood, so the girl in the song, as well as going to her first live concert for her 15th birthday, is also lamenting how quickly her first 15 years passed by and that things will never be the same, so she is etching this special night of her 15th into her heart so she will never forget.
Next how about 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' live at Sonisphere 2014 in the UK, their first time in the UK, first major event outside of Asia and aged 16 and only just turned 15 faced with 50-60,000 UK metalheads and most had never heard of Babymetal.

A fun thing in Japanese to notice is that they tend to put a 'uh' sound between syllables, so when you hear "hedduban", their shouting "headbang", same for the "hedduban-ga" shout: "headbanger". I only found this out with subtitles...

Their choreo is so tight that, even over the years that this compilation is made up of, the moves always match the one audio track used. But I'd have to recommend the Legend 97 version too as it's a single performance. The live videos on their YT channel including that performance, are usually ok to use if paused or faded out a bit.

Headbanger happens to be my favorite Babymetal song, they've merged into many genres over the years but not "Country" so far. An all-female Japanese band called Bridear - which is pure metal/prog-metal that write their own music and play all their own instruments does have a song with a few Country licks with some super huge and heavy metal riffs called "Ignite" I would highly recommend checking out the official MV for Ignite, as well as their newer music

The style of music that BABYMETAL produces is called Kawaii Metal (cah-wah-ee metal), or "Cute Metal"). It is a fusion of the cute appearance and style of the J-pop scene and heavy metal music. BABYMETAL songs are fusions of differing styles and metal. Rap, prog, techno, SoCal beach, grunge, power ballads: BABYMETAL mixes the genres and something we've not heard before comes out the other end. Even if you don't like everything, there will be something for you to enjoy.
The shows I recognized from this compilation:
Big Fox Festival 2017 - Yui's last show
    Tokyo Dome 2016
    Budokan 2014
    Trilogy Yokohama 2015
    Saitama Super Arena (SSA) 2015
Legend 1997 Makuhari Event Hall 2013
Port Messe Nagoya 2019 (I think)
And I'm sure I missed one or two.
Some good shows in there. Some overlooked shows, actually. It's just a shame it's a compilation. Single-show videos are less confusing and are just better IMO.

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 I saw a video showing your play at The Whisky A Go Go in 2018. That is great! There are many Japanese people who love country music as well as bluegrass. Actually, one of my friends is a fiddle player in an amateur band.
This is a compilation from shows in 2013 through 2020. The crowd's mass headbanging occurs wherever BM goes on this planet and whenever Su-Metal wants audience to do so with her death stare 😄. Of course it did in 2019 US tour (20 gigs in 18 states). You can find videos showing thousands of people doing headbangind at the Forum, Inglewood in your states on Oct. 11.
Last year 2021, BM played this song in all of 10 BABYMETAL BUDOKAN Concerts with Su's matured voice and Moa's more agitating moves. I witnessed it 9 times at the venue and was enchanted to headbang 9 times ヽ(^o^)丿.

If you want to get in front of a huge Japanese crowd you could go the "Bring Me The Horizon" route. Play a festival that includes BABYMETAL, befriend them, keep in touch & be supportive of them for several years, do a collaboration with them, & hope they ask you to open for them when touring massive venues in Japan. It worked for BMTH as they opened for BABYMETAL in 2019 for 2 dates at Osaka Jo Hall (capacity 16,000) & 2 at Saitama Super Arena (capacity 37,000).

Japanese crowds are great, but Babymetal has the crowds involved everywhere. A Babymetal concert is like a metal dance party. And in the arena settings, it's almost sensory overload.Like you said it is hard to take everything in. Su may have a high pitched voice, but you got to admit with her forward placement, it cuts right through the guitars. No problem.

    ⚡ 💀 💕 / 🤘
I love the spectacle of their bigger arena shows, but if you can get the barrier at a smaller venue, that's pretty unforgettable as well.
I was thrilled when they brought this song back to the setlist, and I got to hear it at the LA Forum in October 2019.
Besides being an important early hit for BABYMETAL, this song has some unique performances.
To celebrate their 15th birthdays, Yui took over the lead in Paris, France on July 1st, 2014 and Moa took over in Cologne, Germany on July 3rd, 2014.
They each took the lead again, when they got back to Japan.
Yui at 'APOCRYPHA - Y' on July 21st, 2014, and Moa at 'APOCRYPHA - M' later that same day.
Su performed a special version at 'Legend S' for two December 2017 20th birthday concerts in her home prefecture of Hiroshima.
On July 6th and 7th, 2019, Moa took over the lead vocals again for her 20th birthday celebration in Aichi, where she was born.
For the 20th birthday shows, they changed the lyric "ichigo" (15) to "hatachi" (20).
"ichigo", is an unusual form of 15 (1 + 5), instead of the more usual "jûgo" (10 + 5).
It was used in the song because "ichigo" can also mean "strawberry", or "once in a lifetime".

Yeah, this is one of the better compilation vids... Some fans don't like reactors reacting to compilation vids because some poorly made ones are so out of synch that people think Babymetal and the band either lipsynch or are backtracked.... But this one is well done.... I personally like some of the compilation vids out there, because it gives people a taste of how bonkers a Babymetal concert is, from the crowd participation, the set designs and the craziness that goes on.... And keep in mind they've been at it for 10yrs now, so you got an idea of how young they were when they started (around 15 and 13 or younger if you count their days in Sakura Gakuin which is a whole different kettle of fish).... So performing infront of several tens of thousands of people, is just a walk in the park for them.... Yeah, going to a Babymetal concert is a bucketlist thing for a lot of people, can't wait till they start touring again. 🤘🦊🤘

Handbanger is also a pun. The pronunciation when absorbed into Japanese sounds like "Head-ban-gurl". A "Ban-gurl" [Band Girl] means a female fan of a band (like a PG13 groupie). The "Head Ban Gurl" would be the head of the fan club (like Head Girl in a school). The song play with this pun as it is about the female fan travelling for her first time of seeing the favourite band live

  • @Kmudaify
    @Kmudaify Před 2 lety +3

Good song. Not the right video. You will find various of these "compilation" videos that are attempts by people to get around the Amuse Copyright Police. The "Headbanger" video to watch would have been the video from "Legend 1997, Su's (lead singer) 16th birthday concert back in 2013. There is another video from that concert to check out, which would be "Babymetal Death" Legend 1997.. a song that goes real hard and may be the best demonstration of how theatrical they can get. If there is one song in the Babymetal catalog that I would predict you liking, it would be "Shine", from the 2019 album Metal Galaxy. That album ends with what we call "The Trilogy of Lights". Three songs it is believed are tributes to their guitar player who passed away in 2018. Shine is the middle of these three songs and is believed to represent the middle stages of grief.

I recommend that you go to the year 2017 and react to the song that made him a global idol ... I mean the performance he did of the famous French song called "SOS D'un Terrien en Détresse", when he participated in the famous Chinese reality show The Singer in that year 2017 ... With that performance Dimash earned the reputation of being the best singer on the planet, so I recommend you start with that one...You have to be prepared because you are likely to receive a flood of views, comments and new subscribers....And I have to give you a warning: Never react to The World Best videos, because they deceived him and treated him very badly.!...I hope to see you first reaction soon and if you don't mind, I'd like you to mention me as the person who recommended reacting to Dimash....Here you have the best high quality video of Dimash performing S.O.S. There is a country and western music scene in Japan including western bars but I don't how large it is. Something keep in mind; Japan is another World on the planet Earth.

The Metal scene was going down bcuz a lot of those groups were shitty. I think this side of Metal bands are weak now that I've listened to Metal bands in Japan. They killing the scenes better than American bands. Not bcuz of the girls but bcuz of the band. I'd have to say for someone who doesn't listen to Metal, they got my attention hard AF 💯 Listening to the crowd be in tuned it's great for the shows. They are being entertained and I love it. It's something the West Metalheads sorely needed. Do u see any in the crowd holding phones?? Not one fukng person. Keep the memory in your hurts. Su just makes it better with her voice. The choreography is surprisingly tolerable. Never listened to SlipKnot n those type of bands bcuz I'm not interested. I get Rock n Roll. What u don't like about it, they weren't their own style. Babymetal makes songs that don't sound alike. I liked this group that has the lyrics "pretty fly for a white guy" n "give it to me baby". Well I listened to them back then. Same with Green Day. They were huge where I'm at. Everyone loved them. Sad to find out the lead singer is gay. That broke my heart. Go Babymetal. I really hope their next album was worth the wait. I didn't get hip to them til last summer. I watch certain concerts at least 3x a week. I appreciate a good band even if they were children. Just the thought of seeing 3 lil Japs doing Metal was mind blowing. Sadly I'm super late but better than never. I don't regret it either. A lot of times listening to them makes my day better. Well certain songs. One I always listen to when I ride my bike home from work is Tokyo Dome. Babymetal Death gets me pumped bcuz the band kills it. I appreciate a good drummer n they got the right one. He's insane on them drums. The band is amazing

Well, Babymetal is not just a band. It's an entity. It has a story, it has background and lore. The lore is extensive, they have a graphic novel out called Apocrypha that explains the origins of Babymetal.. The only way to fully understand what's going on is to watch a Guide to Babymetal. There are quite a few but this one touches on a lot of stuff, and it is one the most recent. Makes a decent reaction as long as you have the camera battery for it. czcams.com/video/E9xRiOBG82w/video.html

Headbanger is a bitter sweet coming of age song about a girl going to her first metal show on her 15th birthday. None of the girls were 15 or had seen a metal show. The lyrics would be much more interesting if it was about them. The lyrics could have talked about Summer Sonic 2013 in Japan. I mean if they hadn't been already written a while ago. I'm sure they performed Headbanger at Summer Sonic. Being personal guests backstage with Metallica because one of their roadies had seen their Metallica themed Tshirts that said 'And Justice for Babymetal'. Lars Ulrich went to see Babymetal and invited them to their show. The lyrics could talk about how Metallica was scouting them to see if Babymetal could open for them someday in Japan or Asia. They did open for Metallica in Korea later on. Which is all kind of amazing because Summer Sonic was a terrible show for Babymetal. Even the Kami Band was bad. It's the worst show I've seen. They often credited Metallica with inspiring them and I just thought that was flattery until I saw how bad that show was and how great all the following shows were.
People talk about how the girls are really Jpop stars. And that is true. But how many metal heads were guests of Metallica when they were 15?

Great reaction! This song is a story of a young woman taking a train and going to her first heavy metal concert on her 15th birthday ( the lyrics were updated when performed on the girl's 20th birthdays) and while she is so excited and gappy to be in the crowd at the show, she laments that it is a fleeting moment in her life.
Su was 14 when the song was recorded and is not biographical. Both Yui and Moa sang lead the second half of the song on their 15th birthdays and Moa again on her 20th. Search for "Moabanger" to see that performance. It is truly epic!

  • @nothsor

This song was about a 15 (ich go) year old girl going to her first metal concert. If I recall past comments from other reactions, in Japan at 15 mandatory education ends and a person is considered an adult. So the story is basically about a girl saying goodbye to her childhood. At least that my understanding from other posts. There are alternate versions of this song. there are versions where Yui takes the lead for her 15th birthday, there is one where Moa sings for her 15th birthday, and another Moa one when she turned 20, and the lyrics are changed to say 20 instead of 15

There is a small amount of Japanese that like and listen to country music, but it's a niche genre and it probably wouldn't get nearly a crowd that big. J-Pop and K-pop Idols, J-Rock and metal, jazz and jazz fusion, and even J-Rap are what's popular in Japan. Country music will probably fill a small venue, but nothing near what these other genres do. You have to keep in mind they also listen to a lot of Aussie, Taiwanese, and Korean artists in Japan.

You asked why the audience doesn't react the same to country then to metal.
Country doesn't evoke anything more than Joy and sadness. Course of the lyrics. But that is a valuable effect as well.
We need both Country and Metal.
