    Love this video. I have an Axon Werx bosst 34 with 100mm travel and something's wrong with it. Travel goes down to 80mm and damping is kind of a mess. What do you think causes this or what seems to be the issue? Is it the EQ air chamber or the PCS cartridge?

    Did the durolux fork feel as if it had bushing play - Mine does after only 250km. I've been reading that it could be due to cavitation in the damper.

    If you really want to know, how does a fork perfom, you must service before use. Even new ones.
    First you should check the lowers and the uppers with your front hub. It will be day and night if you shim (DIN988) out the hub for the less resistance.
    If it doesn't help bushing burnishing is the way to go. But that's expensive toolwise compared to the shims. That's the hack that everyone can do at home, who's confident enought to take a part their fork.
    You need to gut out the fork. Completely. Just the lowers (no foam rings, no seals) and the stancions into the bikestand. Actuate the fork and see how much resisence it got by the lower bushings. Than add you front hub (wheel) and torq it to the max of the axle. And repeat the the actuating process. If you feel resistance, add shims both sides. These shims comes in different thicknesses, 0,1mm, 0,2mm, etc. Put shim between the dropout and hub or under the dustcap (depending on your hub bearings and your taste). If you need less widht you need to sand down the dustcap.
    If this is ready, you can service your fork. This method will increase the fork performance to the max and depending on the front hub could result in a day and night experience.

      I second this . I have a rockshox recon and brand new out of the box it worked but there was no gradual ove time oil purging through the seals (wich is happening after service) wich is telling me the fork was likely underfilled from the factory

      @@OtterMTBtech The funny part is that high end, really expensive forks can be shit. Back in the days Fox forks had a tendency for bushing play, prefox Marzo had the same issue, recently got RS issues with this. So they make the forks stiff. This is the deal against warranty issues.
      The fork is just a part, of the front suspenison system. Which contain the front hub. If the dimensions doesn't fit, it will be fucked up (ofc on a scale).

    You said it's a "dry fork" inside and was carving up the seals.
    I've got the 36mm stanchion version and it's a grease-based fork. You put grease on certain areas, and try not to block the air spring equiliser groove. The rear injection holes are to inject 1mm of oil inbetween lower leg services, until you reach 5mm (write on a log on your workshop wall, or in your phone) and then you need a full lower leg service, stripping, cleaning and regressing.
    There's a new Bolany fork out 4 months ago (34mm stanchions in 27.5 or 29". The 27.5" is 580mm A2C and advertises 175mm travel, but mine only reaches 166mm and as a result the air pressure is far lower than the guidelines. Also the sag indicators on the stanchions have been printed upside down so completely useless even if I had the right amount of travel) Anyhow, their screw holes they say are for lubing the seals between services. The Durolux injection holes I'm not sure. Seals? Or lower legs in general, including bushings?
    The noise that used fork was making was atrocious. It's supposed to be a fairly quiet fork. Knowing how the fork is supposed to sound, I'd be thinking you needed a new damper, maybe even bushings and seals if the fork had been run dry and carved up inside until particles entered the damper and wasted it
    I've not taken the top caps off but interested to see there are tokens in there. You can Google them for sales, but in the country I'm living in spare parts (including different length air springs) are impossible to find for RS or Suntour. I'm going home in summer and will try to get some parts bought to take back with me.

      Does you bolany fork felt better after injecting 1ml of oil inside the screw holes ? I have a chinese air fork too and it was really good the first time and started to quickly fade after some time. I wonder if injecting some oil there would help since it looks pretty easy

    • @user-rl4ji5ne4o
      @user-rl4ji5ne4o Před 2 měsíci

      It's brand new. Two rides in. Haven't had time to let it go dry yet. I did inject it with 1mm of suspension oil on each leg for the second ride just to check if it was dry out of the box. I'd also dropped the air pressure at the same time due to the stated pressures being wildly wrong. Small bump response isn't good given it is so cheap. Ram into a kerb and it'll work okay. No topout with the damper adjusted appropriately. Action feels like a Manitou Markhour with the Kwiktoggle damper. Only time will tell.

  • @thmsvd
    @thmsvd Před 2 měsíci +1

    While the damper not working properly probably had a huge impact on harshness, the fork also seems to be sucking down when you release the air pressure! Did you make sure that the positive and negative air chambers are able to equalize? Suck down can also cause harshness

    • @OtterMTBtech
      @OtterMTBtech  Před 2 měsíci

      It was a used fork I fully disclosed. Maybe it had excessive wear and tear or this product doesn’t age like 🦊.
      The damper oil had no cavitation when j took it apart.
      The adjustments hardly changed the ride before and after
      There was no signs of excessive grease or debris clogging the air spring.
      It rode so good after a service, I started swapping out damper oil on my other fork DVO 38, same deal hella plush completly different fork after damper oil change. DVO let me know they maybe not Suntour use 3wt oil, that is bulk oil and who’s knows how good that is
      Someone else on comments had the same issues. Harsh or diving. That’s prettt common on cheap forks, Zeb R Domain etc .

    You need to clean out the lowers really well and probably replace the wiper seals, normal skf 38 mm should fit. Lube up the top bushing with super slick suspension type grease and soak the foam rings with plenty of oil. You can run oil in the lower legs on the air side with out issues, but not on the damper side cause the damper sucks it up and then you end up with less travel and harsh feeling fork. Stock oil in the damper is 5wt so putting 2.5 wt makes them feel much better, damping adjustments are pretty much set and forget type of deal, you can play around with the shims on the mid valve but no much else. Often servicing helps with the longevity and performance. It would be cool to see if a custom sealhead with better seals can be made to be able to run lower leg oil in the damper side as well.

    Also, there are 2 kinds of volume reducers in the durolux EQ forks: the clip-on type and the push-on type. The clip-on type is a relic of past Durolux designs. When they use an air positve and coil negative spring system.

    I had not so amazing experience with Durolux 36 and as far as I can see, 38 is not much more better.

      Hey I fully decided was hard fork. If you can get to the end of the video I swapped damper oil and it rode really good with lighter oil.

    Basically you're acting like a Brazilian mtbiker complaining about non named brands stuff.
    It's the same bias: man buy used stuff, man don't service, man complain, man disappointed, man prefer named brand Fox stuff

      Bro I built a repair manual and fixed the fork for other people struggling. Since Suntour wouldn’t give it to me. Thats Mercian 🇺🇸

    If you bought used, service it, otherwise the review is COMPLETELY useless

    Don't mean to hate but what's exactly the point of this video? You buy used fork, don't service it (!!!), it obviously rides shitty, you make a video of it and at the end you service and the fork is a lot better? It's kinda like buying a trashed, 300k miles Porsche and complaining it drives shitty. Well, duh.
