      That's not a piece but an improvisation by the organist on the theme of Zadok the Priest. Since, Zadok the Priest ended before the full disbursement of Maundy money was completed. The organist had to fill-in that time with some music. We organists are always ready for such things.😎😂

    Why does this sound much grander than the version they sung at the coronation of Charles III? I really think the organ elevates this anthem. The choir came in and continued to sing with great gusto. The one at the coronation was a bit... lack lustre.

    • @Organintetnational
      @Organintetnational  Před rokem +3

      You are very right. The bass of the pedal organ is an octave lower than orchestra and it rattles the entire building. Another thing is balanced use of reed stops which add to that bass in the treble section. Then, the director of music there was James O'Donell and the sub-organsit was Daniel Cook. This also plays a major difference in how the performances are carried out. In the coronation service the role of the organ was far more removed than usual. Even in Andrew L. Weber's, "Make some joyful noise." It wasn't present at all with maybe a pedal flue stop and wherever the organ was used, it was dramatically used at low volume. This has never happened before and yes, Zadok the Priest that day was under-performed.

      This is not an anthem about the current Monarch of Britain. This anthem was composed by George Frederick Handel in 1727 for the coronation of King George the II and even then it was not directly dedicated to him but King Solomon from the Bible. Handel compared the coronation of George II to the coronation and anointment of King Solomon by Zadok the Priest and Nathan the Prophet, being equal and a Divine order.

    • @Organintetnational
      @Organintetnational  Před rokem +6

      Yes, it is impressive. After all, its one of the best choirs in the world. Well, the Royal Family knows the secret to survival is being diplomatic and un-opinionated. You would have never heard The Queen or the members of the Royal Family publicly favour anything or critique anything. They just do the needful, which keeps them in the news. Being politically active can destroy their reputation and that is why they don't have any any enemies on any agenda except the Republicans.
      Queen Elizabeth's uncle, King Edward was a Nazi sympathizer and the entire parliament got Wallice Simpson as an excuse to remove him from not just the monarchy but also the Royal Family and the UK. The Queen and the Royals understands it, that's why during the World War, they even changed their family title from the House of Hanover to the House of Windsor. A monarch of one country, cannot be loyal or lovable to another and that is why they keep Germany at a distance.

    • @mattharrison9621

      Of course both George II (whose coronation music this is) and Handel (the composer) were both German-born and yet both became British (Handel became a naturalised British subject in 1727). The distance to Germany and Germans was the product of the two world wars (and the earlier process of German unification). Before the first world war all things German were much admired (and adopted) by British people (particularly under Victoria and Albert). if you want to feel bitter about that distance, blame Bismarck, Kaiser Wilhelm and the Nazis...
