A common mistake is also to not set a concrete goal for the project, i.e. when it's considered done. Many times I've started to work on something and not really considering what exactly it is that I want to get done. Concrete milestones! Feature creep is the root of all evil.

Feature creep is a huge issue I tend to have too. We want to add so many things that we dont release anything at all. real bad.
This is basic knowledge, applies to all aspects of your life. Bite size chunks leads success.
