- I break down my report at The Athletic with Shams Charania on JJ Redick, James Borrego and Sam Cassell emerging as the three leading targets for the Los Angeles Lakers during their coaching search.
I cover the three frontrunners, the rest of the candidate pool, what the Lakers are looking for from their next coach, legendary Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski (aka Coach K) advising them, and more.

Sam Cassell should be the next lakers head coach. He would be perfect for now and the future!!!
Nah he’s not good bro
@@sweeptheleg3097 i appreciate your opinion, when you say he’s not good. What do you base that on?
Sam Cassell is the man for the job
@@bigtimelakersfan5836 he is probably a bot...no real person would say Aman who won 3 titles spent 12 years as an assistant isn't good.
Cassell, Adelman , Norie in that order
Redick with a defensive minded top assistant!!!
James Borrego would be an awful hire
Then the Lakers will probably hire him.
Would be pretty good lead assistant if the Lakers opt to go with JJ.
He couldn’t even command lmelo ball led hornets. Much less Ad-Bron led lakers
@@Commenting800look at how immature the hornets were during his time there. Hard to lead a group of guys that care more about everything but winning
Excellent report. Man, you are doing a great job. I read and enjoy you on The Athletic and now, you have become my leading source for Lakers news. Keep up the great job and thank you.
Sam Cassell has a lot of experience.. I don't know much about his X & Os.. I know he played with Dream and won Chips.. and hes coached as an assistant for years
He’s been a coach before for the Blazers and got fired
@@sweeptheleg3097 he's never been a coach for the blazers
Assistant for a reason.
Sam Cassell, David adelman or Micah Nori, Chris Quinn in that order ; Redick on assistant staff.
Clear, concise, fact-filled. Love it. Thank you for making good content and not just spamming view minutes.
Thank you for the updates, Jovan
This franchise has become a joke.
Several complaints about young coaches (interns) and they go there and hire JJ who wasn't even an assistant coach? joke.
Sorry for all the aggregators man. Ur content is really unique and there’s nothing like it anywhere else. The pod is gonna go great places
JJ Reddick, if they bring in coach K as his top assistant or at least advisor
The Lakers Need to Sign LeBron, Reddick, Bronnie, A Point Guard, and A Defensive/Rebounding Big! 💜✌💛
I like Redick, he has a brilliant basketball mind. I believe what ever team we start the season with they will respect him and will give their all on both ends of the floor
Because of his diversified & extensive experience, of these three, Cassell should be the next coach with Borrego in 2nd & Reddick 3rd....
If they are going to hire Reddick they may as well have kept Ham
JJ Reddick is into analytics which is phenomenal.
But has zero experienced at coaching
Is like Steve Nash at BKN
Too risky
This Head Coach search is also an assistant coach and coasting staff search for the #Lakers
They should make JJ coach the summer league team if he is chosen.
We all know that we're getting JJ, right?. I love the guy, but we're gonna be stuck with another rookie coach and finally close our chip window, if it's not closed already.
J.J. should take another coaching gig...sam cassell with j.j and terry scotts along with Phil handy on staff
JJ Reddick head coach with Rondo as an offensive assistant and then a couple experienced, defensive-minded assistants would be sweet
How's about a someone who has experienced at coaching at HC position, hire an experienced head coach like Hollins, Stotts or SVG as Associate HC, then hire Rondo or Reddick as assistant coach?
Hollins was our defensive coordinator when Lakers won the bubble championship
@@benbenn123 I’d definitely be down for that I just don’t know whether there are any avail experienced head coaches out there that don’t have negative win-rates
My favorite is David Adelman with JJ Redick as an assistant coach. Redick knows his X's and O's but will need an experienced and versatile assistant coaching staff. The Lakers need to stay far away from James Borrego.
David Adelman as HC
Experienced head coach like Hollins, Stotts, SVG or Atkinson as Associate HC
Reddick or Rondo as assistant coach & video coordinator
All Indicators, It's Going To Be -----> "JJ" Redick = *Jumping* For *Joy*
I am hoping for Redick.
I just have a feeling that with Coach K being a somewhat advisor during this process, I do think the chances of JJ Redick (a former player for him in college) are more than likely making the scenario of him being the next Lakers coach a very strong possibility. Not thoroughly impressed due to the lack of any NBA coaching (even as an assistant). Then again, the Lakers don't seem to do anything 100% logical in this department. My choice would be for the Lakers to just tap Bob Myers the head of BB ops, but that isn't happening.
Agree. I just want someone like Bob Myers in the FO
And fire Kurt & Linda Rambis from the FO
Sam Cassell 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
give sam cassell a chance. he's a winner and 3 time champ
1 title in 14 years can easily become 1 in almost 40 like the Celtics if they keep making the same mistakes over and over...
When does Coach JJ start?
Out of these 3, I would not want Borrego. Too many stories out of Charlotte about his inability to keep the lockerroom in check.
What are the odds that Lakers could get some of these head coach options like Cassell as new assistants? Or do you think they’d only leave their current teams for a promotion?
These are "initial" not finalists..ok...ty
Crazy to me but jj seems pretty good at the xs and os and knows defensive break downs so 🤷 has some of everything at least on the podcast seriously that was like a 3plus month long interview lol
Jovan what’s the best way to contact Jeanie n rob pelinka if they hire JJ reddick 🤬🤬🤬
Sam Cassell PLEASE!!!!!
Not basketball related. Where did you get your hoodie?
Temu. Hes shopping like a billionaire.
JJ appears to be the most competitive/prepared. The other 2 are nothing but blabbermouths like Darvin Ham.
Every two years we're starting this process all over. Ridiculous
Could JJ reddick be the Sean McVay of the nba?? 😂😂
Obviously, this is Pelinka's last chance to get it right. At least, Mike K is an advisor. If he makes a bad coaching decision now, he and this new coach should be fired.
Hiring Adelman is a Laker's daddy move so they probably won't even consider that. Why not just hire Coach K?😂
Coach K?
He's terrible at strategy actually
Coach K had a 30% organized offense rate in the final 4 his last game coaching. His offensive rate is lower than Ham actually. Ham organized offensive rate vs Denver in the playoff is around 40-45%
I think Sam Cassell would be fine if we don’t go with JJ
If LeBron plays 2 more years, AD will be 34 during his first season without LeBron. Continuing to talk about him like he's a youngish star who will lead the next era of Lakers basketball once LeBron is gone makes no sense to me.
Sam cassel comes from the doc rivers head coaching tree. No thank you 😂
Mica Nori
Anthony Davis is 30 years old smh
Sam Cassell easy
None of the options have the creds to make any difference. Lakers will not be contenders any more in Lebron era…then rebuilding phase. So no championship possibilities in next 5 years. It’s depressing for us fans.
Choices display a serious lack of creativity and imagination.
All of these name is awful
- Borrego has low percentage defense effectivity at Hornets & he can't lead the locker room
- Reddick should be an assistant coach first, not a head coach. Even he's a studio analyst, but he must be an assistant first before he become a head coach. Don't be like Brooklyn Nets when hired Steve Nash without coaching experience
- for Sam Cassell, I don't know about his offensive & defensive reputation, because I only know he's a player development coach like Phil Handy
And Coach K isn't that good at coaching, especially at strategy. His offensive playcall is bad. If Lakers ask his input about coaches, Lakers got a wrong person
All of that whining and crying. Why dont you interview for the Laker head coach then?
@@DannyCerceras Nah, I don't have any coaching experienced. I said like that based on the data & the news.
- Borrego's defensive scheme in Charlotte was bad, even his offensive scheme was good actually. I'd prefer to hire him as assistant coach who create the offensive gameplan. And some of his players complained his coaching in the media, like Bouknight, LaMelo & Montrezl Harrel
- It's a bigger risk to hire someone who don't have experienced in coaching. That's why I'd prefer to hire JJ as assistant coach first. Because coaching a team is totally different with analyzing a game.
If you coach a team, you must create the offensive & defensive gameplan with the assistant coach, create the rotation builder, can lead the locker room. Does he do that when analyzing game?
- Coach K had 30% organized offense rate in the final 4 his last game coaching
Redick is an awful choice and proof they haven't learned their lesson
Clown show. Sam Cassell is a protege of Doc Rivers. Borrego was a failure. Reddick is a newbie. Better hire Kenny Atkinson or Jeff Van Gundy??
JJ Reddick is the worst option, by far! He´s unexperienced, come on! He cant deal with a team like the Lakers!!!! Why is this being so embarrasing?? Isnt there anyone who can put some common sense on the table?
No brainer here, James Borrego is the right hire.
bro he got fired FROM CHARLOTTE! Never had a winning season.
@@Commenting800 lol it doesn’t mean he got fired he was terrible. He was actually a great coach for them. He was dealt with immature players. If you think Charlotte was made for playoffs on his tenure then how? Lol no legit center for 4 years. But he made them competitive and better every year.
@@inthezone.8563 You his agent ?
