LeBron Reportedly Staying Out of the Lakers' Coaching Search. Is this Believable? (Spoiler: No)

  • Brian's lost his voice, but Harrison Faigen (SBNation) took his place to discuss- after an "Earth 2" victory lap about being "proven right" that the Lakers would be in the Western Conference Playoffs had they listened to him and tanked vs. the Pelicans during the play-in to avoid Denver - Shams Charania's report that LeBron James, despite all appearances and common sense, is not the driving force behind JJ Redick being the reported frontrunner for the Lakers coaching job, even though he's never coached a game in his life. Is this believable? No. Does this feel like Team Klutch trying to dispel a narrative where LeBron gets the blame if this goes sideways? Yes.But here's the thing. The version of events where this is true and Redick managed to jump the line this dramatically without LeBron's push is arguably even less comforting.
    HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky, with guest Harrison Faigen (SBNation)
    SEGMENT 1: Harrison says "I told you so!!!" and LeBron reportedly isn't pushing for Redick... or any coach.
    SEGMENT 2: Why it's not believable LeBron's relationship with Redick hasn't pushed him to the front of the line... but also, if that IS true, that's arguably worse.
    SEGMENT 3: Anthony Davis' voice (spoken, implied, or otherwise) is reportedly also under heavy consideration these days.

    Lebron reportedly not being involved in The coaching hire is BS and anyone with half a brain knows it. The only things on JJ Reddicks resume is that he has a podcast with Lebron and he was thrown out of his 8 year old sons game as a coach, yet he’s somehow the front runner for the job??
    Lebron has figured out that if he doesn’t take public ownership of his decisions, he won’t face any accountability, just as he hasn’t his entire career.
    At least Giannis was man enough to own up to the fact that he played a major role in the hiring of Adrian Griffin. The hiring obviously didn’t work out, but at least Giannis took ownership of his decisions.
    But then again, it’s always been like this with Lebron. Instead of taking responsibility for ANYTHING, whether it be his poor performance in a crucial games, or his LeGM decisions, he always deflects blame to someone else, whether it’s coaches, refs, injuries, etc.
    Did you see his press conference after the game 5 loss to the nuggets? He deflected blame if the failed season and embarrassing loss to the nuggets on injuries and nothing else. Not once in that press conference did he say “I wasn’t good enough” or “I could’ve been better”. As always, lakers fans completely looked pass his excuse making, yet when Darvin Ham blamed the season on injuries, lakers fans were outraged at Ham and demanded he take accountability for his poor coaching.
    Reggie Miller was 100% correct when he contrasted Lebron and Anthony Edwards regarding their level of self accountability. I just wish Reggie Miller would’ve directly mentioned Lebron by name.

      @LockedOnLakers  Před 27 dny

      I didn't want to go too far down the rabbit hole for time reasons, but as we discussed in real time during the play-in, neither of us bought into this strategy, especially considering the odds of them ending up in a single-elimination format against the Kings, who I would argue they've struggled against just as badly as the Nuggets. Way too presumptive to pencil that in as a win. AK

    • @litoxxlito_axx7318
      @litoxxlito_axx7318 Před 27 dny

      @@LockedOnLakers exactly. In a single gm elimination, the lakers can very well lose to the Kings, warriors , or the pelicans. The kings beat a warriors team without two key role players. Plus, you know players miraculously get healthy before they play the lakers so there is always that beat the lakers factor.

    I’m not for or against hiring JJ but to be fair the lakers being interested in him has nothing to do with the podcast. He’s been interviewed for several HC jobs and has turned them all down. There’s real interest in JJ around the league. The podcast thing is being blown out way out of proportion. If JJis hired it will be because the lakers like the way he will play not because of a silly pod lol

    • @LockedOnLakers
      @LockedOnLakers  Před 27 dny +3

      Like I said in this show and others, I don’t have an issue with them being interested in Redick, and I definitely can see why he’d be intriguing on paper. He’s obviously got appeal. For me, the issue is process. Given both his lack of actual experience and the Lakers’ decade-plus issues landing on a coach that can stick for longer than three years, I have questions about them becoming reportedly so fixated on Redick without even having spoken with them. In certain respects, my skepticism is much more about them than Redick. Again, it’s a process issue. I don’t trust theirs. Doesn’t mean they won’t land on the right guy, Redick or whoever, but I think the lack of trust is earned.
      Appreciate you watching.

      @@LockedOnLakersfair enough and I’m with you. A decade of picking the wrong coach is a real issue. Their current process is interesting to say that least but I still believe if JJ never did a pod with Bron the lakers would still be interested. I just wanted to point out JJ has real qualities that it seems like a decent amount of teams were/are looking for. Thanks for reply and thanks for the show. Love your work.

    How many pro teams have retained their organizational structure through 3 coaching changes? In most sports, the entire front office is fired after two failed coaching hires. Why is Pelinka able to pick a 4th coach when the Lakers have fielded some of the worst rosters in the league on his watch? It just doesn’t make sense unless my theory that Jeanie and the think tank that ruined the Knicks for 10 years are acting as GM for the Lakers and Pelinka is just a figurehead.

    Also, I believe that if Lebron wanted JJ. Then JJ would have been interviewed and hired. Coach K would not have been needed.
    I believe Lebron has fell back and left things in Palinka's hands. I believe Lebron is frustrated with the front office. They are slow to make moves. They are slow to make trades, slow to signing FAs, slow to making decisions with hiring coaches. Players have been available for trades, FAs and coaches were available to sign and the Lakers sat on their hands every time over the last 3 years. And failed to resign needed Players.
