  • Finding the best WIFI Mesh System for your home can be tricky, so today I'll help you by comparing two popular Wifi Mesh Systems witch each other. The first being the Amplifi HD Mesh System Kit and the second the AVM Fritzbox Mesh kit. The Ubiquiti Amplifi HD Mesh Kit comes with two Mesh Points while the Fritzbox Mesh kit only comes with one additional AVM Fritz 1750E Mesh Access Point. In order to make this review comparable I got a second 1750E Access Point achieve the same coverage as with the Amplifi HD Mesh Kit.
    A while ago I already compared the Ubiquiti UAP AC Pro against the Fritzbox 6490 and one additional 1750E Access Point. Here is the link to the original Video: • Ubiquiti Unifi UAP AC ...

    I'm not sure how you took so long for your Fritz!Box...
    I followed the wizard and was done in minutes, setting up the guest wifi as well. The extenders did not need any setup, just click the WPS button on both and done. All done in no-time!

    Hat schon seinen Grund, wieso ich das WLAN an der FritzBox! deaktiviert habe und auf Amplifi mit einem Mesh point umgestiegen bin. Super Video mit echt wertvollen und gut gewonnenen Informationen. Danke!

    It's an advertising for Amplifi. To set-up a Fritz Mesh with 4 additional repeaters and a 7530 it took 3 minutes in total. I'm a 55 yo person with no network skills.

      Don't forget the Review is over one year old and AVM massively increased the amount and quality of their updates. Back then their firmware was riddled with bugs and they had some serious issues when using hidden SSIDs in combination with MESH. I'm happy to see that their products came such a long way. ✌️

    Thanks for this extensive review. It helped make my decision on purchasing a mesh system.
    I went with the recently released Unifi 6 Lite.

    • @AttiBear
      @AttiBear  Před 3 lety +1

      You are welcome! I already gave the Wifi 6 Access points a rundown too. Ubiquiti definitely has still some tuning to do. The Unifi 6 LR only has a slight signal advantage over the Unifi 6 Lite so it's a bargain. The only I noticed is that in the early Firmwares they had connectivity issues with IOT devices. This seems to be fixed in their lates releases.

    Appreciating the review as I'm looking to take advantage of using our existing Fritz 7490 router as a mesh hub thanks to the firmware update. Was weighing upgrading powerline adaptors but we can get better WiFi speeds over 5 Ghz than what our old home wiring can deliver.
    Your English is excellent, one minor tip is drop using the words "thousand/hundred" when saying the model numbers.
    More typical to say "seventy-five ninety" than "seven thousand five hundred ninety", or "seventeen fifty" than '"one thousand seven hundred fifty".
    Ich wünschte, mein Deutsch wäre so gut wie dein Englisch
    Tschüss

    • @AttiBear
      @AttiBear  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah that's always the issue with Powerline Adapters. Their performance also massively varies depending on the load you have on your wiring. Had to learn that first hand.
      Thank you very much for the advice 🙏. I'm always happy to find more ways to improve my language skills 😃.
      Alles eine Frage der Übung 😁. You'll get there!

    I had three different Systems so far. 1st was a Fritzbox 7490, it worked but...yeah leave it at that. 2nd was a single Amplifi HD, flawless even without any Meshpoints. My 3rd and actual System is a whole Network from ubnt, including Router, 2 PoE-Switches and 2 UAP AC Pro, i dont want to go back to anything other then ubnt.

    • @AttiBear
      @AttiBear  Před 5 lety

      I totally can relate to that. I started with the Fritzbox 6490 Cable... If you set up a Site to Site VPN with it you are doomed 😁. I'm running two sites with USGs and UAP AC Pros. The only thing I'm missing for now are the Switches. You can realize almost every possible scenario with that setup except a Site to Site VPN with Dynamic DNS

    • @AttiBear
      @AttiBear  Před 5 lety

      The moment you don't use their stock settings it takes way longer. Especially in combination with hidden SSIDs

      @@AttiBear that's not completely right: if you already have set up the main wifi settings inside your Fritz, every repeater joined by simply pressing the button will inherit the SSID and the security settings. Mesh managing it's automatic from Fritz!OS 7 on and it also has a quite useful diagnostic tool.
      Also the Fritz!Box supports the TR069 protocol that allows you ISP to manage it remotely and give support to dummy users, I don't know whether the ubiquiti has this function but usually it's not implemented in ubnt products. In the Fritz family there are no significant differences from model to model except some are 2,4GHz only and some of them are dual band, some contains the dsl modem some doesn't, some supports DECT handsets and some doesn't but the basis it's the same.
      ALSO they support band steering, so they can make you switch to 5GHz in order to obtain more band and less spam in the air, there's an algorithm choosing the most clean channel and a channel roaming feature that updates all the mesh to the new selected channel if switched without kicking out subscribers. But the most remarkable feature is the beamforming which is supported also by entry level products and allows the device to concentrate the power in the direction the subscriber is more powerful and cleaner.
      Does Ubiquiti have all this? I think not!

    I use the Fritzbox 7590 with 2 times Fritz 3000 2 times Fritz 2400 and a Fritz1200 for connection to a lan of an older Playstation. And a Powerline connection to the barn. I like the Fritzbox because als the Smart 100, 200 and 301 are connected. So it's one system. Small miner is the power for the Wifi. The output is for 2.4 and 5 are the same. As 2.4 needs less power for the same coverage.

    I find it a bit hard to believe that you had to setup each AVM device individually, if that is the case then it is very likely that they are not setup in MESH mode at all. All mesh compatible AVM devices (fritz OS version 7 or higher, 7.12 recommended) receive all the information from the MESH host automatically. This includes wifi network settings, guest network settings and login information. (aka admin password of the host device will be mirrored to all slave devices).
    The only extra step that would differ the the Ubiquiti setup from AVM would be that you need to press the WPS button. But AVM did that so you can hook ANY mesh capable AVM device to the network. On the other hand, additional Ubiquiti MESH devices must be added with the app, no handy button.

    • @AttiBear
      @AttiBear  Před 4 lety

      Over a year ago, when I did the whole setup only FritzOS 7.01 was available. It had massive flaws and bugs especially in combination with hidden SSIDs. Since then AVMs Mesh matured a lot so it's nice to see that AVM is listening to customer feedback.

    mesh is a universal tecnology compatible between different brands?

    • @AttiBear
      @AttiBear  Před 4 lety

      Mesh stands for a certain network topology. Most brands don't support other manufacturers and even if they do I wouldn't recommend such a solution. The probability of weird issues is to high.
