Government Collects Tax Despite My Dumpster Business Operating Illegally

  • Let me tell you about this wild experience I had with the Illinois government and their tax collection for my dumpster business. Because my truck requires a CDL, the process to register is a little different for guys that haul commercial.
So, picture this: my plates weren't properly registered, but that didn't stop IL dept of revenue from collecting taxes like there was no tomorrow, despite needing to be properly registered to obtain the permit to cross state lines in the first place. Clearly, the departments don't coordinate and just collect their own tax.
I tried to explain the situation, but it seemed like the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. The lack of communication between departments was mind-boggling. It felt like I was caught in a never-ending loop of paperwork and phone calls.
But hey, I'm not one to back down easily. I persisted and reached out to every department involved. After what felt like an eternity of explaining and clarifying, they finally sorted out the issue. It was a relief to see some progress and get things back on track.
Lesson learned though, sometimes you have to be your own advocate and push through the bureaucratic maze. It may take some time and effort, but in the end, it's worth it to set things right. Now, I'm just glad that whole ordeal is behind me, were caught up and legal. Phew!

Like someone said lower trailer to 12,000 then you don’t need to go through all the hassles and extra work. Just print off a new sticker for 12,000 and go into licensing and change ownership to same weight. It’s done all the time. Rarely are you going to be over on weight and the chances of them checking are slim to none. Case closed 😉

GTFO. $2100 to get current, on a truck i use 3 times a year. I dove it un tagged until i sold it.
