i am 61 now, well anyone around in this comment section around my age being a teen in 1976 , like me having bought a BASF Low Noise High output cassette of my allowance, with a mike in my hand in front of the TV speaker recording this song on my cassette recorder....memories....
Th8s was my late dad favourite oh i miss him
class.
The only record my Grandad ever bought
What a great throwback song! I heard this song in Miami in 1976. It did not chart in the US but was huge in the UK!
it was a brill tune
Can remember dancing to this at a school disco !
THE GREATEST SONG EVER, If you don't like this you don't like music,,Beethoven never even came close to writing anything as good as this.
@@bobsdavenport what's my neighbour and fellow spoon digger Frank got to do with Jungle Rock ?
Frank is no fan of modern music ,he likes the rhythm of a door closing and opening better ,KEEP FRANK OUT OF THIS PLEASE.
Glad Beethoven was not able to hear this . He would have made it better.
@@Spock105 Beethoven was a bum ,,totally ripped off Mantovani and Culture Club
r U takin the piss, pal ?
@@stevepeachey6469 no , why would you think that ?
If my impeccable taste in music disturbs you I suggest you sit down , have a SKI yoghurt ( strawberry ) and hum a happy tune , I suggest anything by Boney M .
What a complete plonker I must have been, I was incarcerated for the whole year, But the music was great, and My wife was even greater. she waited for me.
THESE FANTASTIC ONE HIT WONDERS FROM YESTER YEAR
My Dad died listening to this song , so I will do
Great tune, happy memories from a much better time in my humble (and experienced) opinion. Rock on Hank wherever you are. Billy. UK
Brilliant record. No.3 for three weeks in the UK in May 1976. Amazing considering most of it is sung on just one note!
I remember watching this number, I love rock.
Love the Dali-esque set. Go, Hank, go!
This beat is so good,
Have it in my Rock-ola 1960 jukebox for many years now. Sounds great!!
Absolutely amazing song, my everlasting memory of hearing this was in the mid 70s at Barking park Funfair. It was playing on tha Waltzer, the flashing lights, the music, the sound of the Gardner 6LX powerd Gen-Set . Happy memories 💖💖💖

Good to put a older face to this classic record
Love it.. Better times then now
You are dead right by there

Fantastique, génial. Du vrai Rock'n Roll. Merci à webportalavro pour cette fabuleuse vidéo. A bientôt.
Where are you from?
Bless
just try to keep your feet from moving, you just can't.
instant feelgood music.
Geest song!👍
This was actually recorded in 1958 but it didn't do very well in the charts but it had another crack at the charts eighteen years later and, to quote the late Brucie, 'didn't it do well?"
Did it ever. I loved this song as a young kid in the 70s. Hank looks very old and haggard in this vid.
@@colingeddes2172 He is 53 in the video.
Warren Zanes' book "Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska" brought me here.
Class - and something charismatic in the way he looks - is he comfortabe?
Severely jetlagged - my guess
The fella released it when he was a lad, in 1958.. but it only became a big hit in 1976, by which time he probably just wanted to stay home with his pipe and slippers. But there was a jungle jungle jungle jungle rock...
Hahaha, I did not see and hear this song since that time :-D
This is my early music years as a kid in the 70s.
Bill Haley, Beatles, Elvis, Johnny Halliday, Buddy Holly etc.
I think Halliday did a cover in french.
Amazing video! But, as much as the song is superb vintage rockabilly and that he really deserved it becoming a hit (although ages late) I wonder what Hank really is thinking about mimmicking in a vid of an old song of his in the middle of what looks like a deserted set for an attempt at Alice In Wonderland the Andy Warhol way...which, on the other hand, makes the whole setting even more surreal, no doubt. Pretty unique, really!
In zaire
On a (now vintage) Yamaha FG !
Man, we have lost our connection w/ rock music. At one time lots of performer's could see the power in that single-note pulse with the vocals. Over top of a subdued, switch-blade rock rhythm section. Who produced this?!
I don’t know why how this was originally recorded in 1958 but then it was suddenly brought out again re released in 1976
Perhaps they were seeing at that time if because it was a change from modern music maybe it would earn the song more popularity with the general public in the 1970s and reviving older music aswell
They did that with the Beatles in early to mid 1976 as well and I think that could have been because they brought out the Beatles rock and roll music volumes 1 and 2 then which earned them popularity perhaps again in 1976 with them being on top of the pops.
wel;tklasse
👍
I was walking through the jungle just the other night
Oh well' I heard a big a'rumble and I thought it was a fight
We stopped there to listen I began to move my feet
It was a jungle drummer doin' a knocked out beat.
It was a jungle rock
A knocked out beat and I had to move my feet
It was a jungle rock.
Oh well I moved a little closer just to get a better view
I saw a chimp and a monkey hat done the Suzy Q
Oh well a'gator and a h'ippo was a' doin' the bop
While a great big frog was a' makin' me hop.
It was a jungle rock
Oh well…
.....the fox grabbed the rabbit and they hit the bunny
Hug
And all the beasts that fly was a cutting the rug
Oh well the camel was a jitter buggin' with a kangaroo
And the elephant
the mover with the ring-ding-oo
It was a jungle rock
Just like Shakespeare!
No offence but….’I saw a chimp and a monkey yeah doin’ the Susie Q.’

Is the string out of tune on purpose?
Rockabilly.. it’s got to be loose.
He looks nothing like his voice. Expected a Big Bopper, Wolf man Jack type person.
Although perhaps he did when it was originally released which I just learned was 1958. It sounds of that era.
The recording is the 1958 original. Hank was 52 when he was persuaded to do this video for it, as it became a hit in 1976.
WTF!??
Typical eccentric European broadcasting. In the 50s Hank Mizell would’ve worn 50s gear and sang about the ‘jungle rock’ as just a rockin’ song. Of course Eccentric broadcasting had to have him dress up as if he was an explorer. I bet he thought it was stupid too. Broadcasting over here in Europe can never just listen to a good song hold its own, but always feels it needs something theatrical to help, no matter how stupid it looks. They always miss the point, NEVER understood the 50’s, and never will!
man, he did not look good for 52...
Apparently you are too busy judging people by their looks instead of listening to the song and enjoying the performance.
Indeed the guy look 70, but his music is timeless.
He fought in WW2.
What have you done?
Shame he doesn't know how to play his own riffs
great song but a truly awful video, but that's dutch tv for you
He should've passed on this performance, he looks like disorientated Pensioner.
Apparently you are too busy judging people by their looks instead of listening to the song and enjoying the performance.
@@tinecrinec4769 apparently you are copy and pasting this response to try and sound cool
@@guywithphone9222 Yeah I do it to sound "cool" not because its the truth or it makes sense...
@@tinecrinec4769 listen the video is ridiculous I mean they literally have a pair of lips hanging from the roof and the guy does look bad for his age it doesn't take away from the song it's just an observation
@@guywithphone9222 The entire point of many of the TopPop videos was for them to stand out and be different. They used nonsensical and elaborate set designs. Its just something the show did, and other shows from the time period did similar stuff. Would you like it if I insulted your looks? If your petty insults are "just an observation" than keep it to yourself.
