My favourite year of all time, the heatwave, the music and being 12-13!
I used to love legs & co when i was a kid.. yumyum lol
This was actually billed as Pan's People! Sad I know, but I remember the show!
Because the unappreciative youth weren't able to appreciate such sensitive intelligent choreography of such musical and lyrical genius.
Just kidding.
a late version of Pans people as Ruth is still there
Do you generally get rabbits and camels in the jungle?
Story I heard re Hank Mazel was that he recorded it in the early/mid 50s but it wasn't a hit until the 1970s. He only found out it had been re-released when he stopped for fuel somewhere out in the desert and it was playing on the garage radio.
Not sure if the use on the TV show Not the 9 o'clock News helped it to be a hit worldwide but it certainly helped it a lot in England.
Love the Bazookas..!
When i was a kid this was considered corny. great now though. ; )
lool i love this song! :D
That's right..it's all about the dancers!
This is Hank Mizell, no question.
I dig this tune! Matt The Cat plays it on XM Radio a lot. XM 5 The Night Prowl Show is where I 1st heard it. I'm glad that guy in the UK found it again. Great dance tune. Danny O'Donnell
They must had so much fun when they did this....
A bit jealous... I want to star in this video too.
The camel was crap, but the dancingcroc was awesome.
Hilarious video.
thats spot on blastingrod..i think it had charly records written on it.
They didn't get paid nearly enough. For about 50% of 70's British youth they were far more iconic and profound than Dylan!
You'll all be pleased to know that the notorious FREE ALL RIGHT NOW PLUS LEGS AND CO. video from Top Of The Pops has just been uploaded, - enjoy !
But please! please ! please ! has anyone got the Legs and Co. RAM JAM - BLACK BETTY video?.
Actually its Pan's People now i've had a closer look.. ;)
So this completely obscure '50s American song became a hit in Britain in the middle 1970s...and here are scores of people writing comments that they remember this fondly. Meanwhile, in the USA, no one knows that any of this ever happened.
I suspect that this theme of animals having a rock & roll dance in the jungle might've been inspired by the sucess of "Rockin' Robin", whose lyrics told a similar story.
I hear that!
oh...my...god XD
CZcamsr Ephyllon was kind to solve my conundrum regarding whether it was Legs & Co, or Ruby Flipper?:
to answer your question about the "Jungle Rock" routine... "TOTP classic and rare video from the glorious summer of 1976 and featuring Legs & Co.,or was it Ruby Flipper??"
this was Pan's People in their last lineup before they disbanded at the end of April 1976 (Ruth Pearson, Cherry Gillespie, Sue Menhenick, Mary Copse, Lee Ward)
regards
15 million people used to watch this show in the mid seventies.
why?.
Cos its all we had! :O
Hang on, I'm not David Attenborough but when have camels and kangaroos ever lived in the jungle??
this is real dancing
first record i got...lol :)
AND THEN PUNK HAPPENED.....I wonder why?
Was she wearing it at the time?
The ungrateful snotty-nosed youth were unable to appreciate the sensitive interpretive choreography of such a towering lyrical & musical masterpiece.
Just kidding.
sound worse now than it did then
